Maybe I could guest star. I'm not as famous as well-known RU-vidrs for video essays, but I could help with some information you learned about, and the names of future Genndy Tartakovsky movies for Sony. And maybe my own opinions on Genndy's works as well.
Primal is a masterpiece. He really took the concept of no dialogue and heavy emphasis on visual storytelling. It's for the children who grew up with his cartoons and are now adults.
Couldn't agree more. Powerpuff girls was my favorite from when I was old enough to tell my parents what I wanted to watch. Samurai Jack and Clone Wars kept me on the edge of my seat through grade school. Watching through Primal now with the same excitement.
@@Dan_KanervaLike any good artist, the guy's not just an anime fan, he's an everything fan. There's splatters of rubber hose animation, Hong Kong action movies, Andrei Tarkovsky, E.C. Comics, Zagreb Film, Remember the Titans, Herge. Genndy looks at so much stuff for influence.
I like how genndy works well with silence, like those episodes of Samurai Jack with little to no voice acting, and that one episode of Clone Wars where the stranded clones are on radio silence
I loved the first Hotel Transylvania and never knew Tartakovsky worked on it. He really made it something special and the way he added 2D characteristics to the 3D animation really made it look good! When I think of that film, my mind instantly thinks of all the exaggerated still poses and facial expressions. And that man deserves an award for removing motion blur in a 3D animated movie, more 3D films and shows should follow suit. The action and movements all look so much clearer without an annoying motional blur smudging everything. I remember watching the final season of the 3D Clone Wars and was annoyed by how the show had added motion blur. It really made some of the season's actions scenes less clear than in older seasons. What should have been newer, better animation was marred by the addition of motion blur.
Royal Ocean FIlm Society literally already compared him to Leone, but I chose not to make the same comparison bec I didn't want to plagiarize him. It's still some fun trivia to know about tho.
is it me or there is a strangesimilarity with Tartakovsky's actions sequences and "Kill Bill"'s? I mean probably just because it's just a wide known storytelling tool but wouldn't surprise me if one inspired the other
Genndy Tartakovsky is a genius, his minimalist style of drawing, his use of silence and dialogue, his way of animating fights and the development of his characters makes him a very interesting and unique artist, Samurai Jack, Clone Wars and Primal are masterpieces.
Genndy Tartakovsky's movement is breath-taking. It takes a true master of their craft to make a moment of silence engage an audience as much as an action scene.
@@maverickhuntermeta4954 adult swim is way more experimental than cartoon network even when cartoon network was in it's prime not to mention the amount of personality adult swim has in its commercials and bump breaks
I still love the Jack and the 300 episode where he did direct reference to The 300 and Miller's style, then later Zach Snyder literally copied Tartakovsky's shots in the movie.
Hotel Transylvania was made for entertainment and escapism. An escape to the hotel. I never took the trilogy seriously, and that's why I love it! There's a time to turn on the brain and there are times to turn them off and laugh at the gags.
True but other than the animation, I don’t think Genndy should have done the sequels, he should have done his own shows and gotten to do Popeye and Can You Imagine? at Sony while some other director made the sequels.
Genndy is one of greatest creators saving western animation right now. He stands proud to show originality and dynamic thinking can make any project a fantastic marvel!
I loved most of Samurai Jack Season 5. It’s just the ending that made me feel meh. I mean at first I didn’t like it and thought it felt pretty underwhelming but after the game came out it did make the ending so much better but looking back now I do respect the original ending. Even so I do still think the game and its conclusion and true ending is still loads better.
Trapped in the future for 50 years, but importantly does not age. I'm totally fine with the ashi stuff, and the finale ties in with his having to address his entitlement/expectations earlier to achieve balance. Plus you experience the highs and lows he did for years trying to get to a portal back, it hits well for me and plenty others
Imagine if this guy creates a Hellboy animated series like adapting the Short stories of hellboy, it's a perfect fit to his style of visual storytelling and the aeasthetic.
Genndy was probably the first modern animation director that I discovered, it helps that during commercial breaks Cartoon Network used to interview their shows creators, others featured were Danny Antonucci from Ed, Edd & Eddy. I grew up watching Dexter's Lab on Cartoon Network Latin America in the late 90s and when before Samurai Jack's premiere they showed those interviews. Despite being totally different in tone I could immediately recognize the similarities between his shows. Clone Wars was actually my first contact with Star Wars
when I was figuring out the background tracks I was afraid it would clash too much with Ride by Deepsky, but I ended up keeping it in and judging by your reaction it looks like it might have worked after all. Glad you enjoyed it!
I grew up with this mans work as a child watching all his cartoons. He honestly is a huge inspiration for me because I’m coming up with my own cartoon. I wish to meet Genndy one day to tell him about my idea just to get a good opinion off of him or maybe some advice he’d be willing to give. I’m not a great artist but the story is coming along well and I can’t wait for more of his work to be put out.
14:27 Yeah, I didn't have a problem with Jack & Ashi's relationship. And I honestly think people who are trying to make an issue out of their relationship because Jack is apparently immortal while Ashi is younger are frankly just looking for something to complain about. In fact, I think people overlook the symbolic nature of their relationship, Jack & Ashi represent yin & yang. If Jack vs Aku was about light vs the darkness then Jack & Ashi's relationship is about the harmony between light and darkness which is ultimately leads Jack defeating Aku once and for all. The only fundamental problem that I had with the series finale is that it felt too rushed and you can tell that Genndy wanted to do much more to bring Samurai Jack to an epic conclusion.
I didn't even know who he was before watching this. I was just a guy who liked cartoons. Seeing how I've seen all of those works and them all having been made by the same guy just gives me a new appreciation for what he's done. The dude created my childhood. Nice to see that part of my life come full circle.
Wow had no idea he worked on Hotel Transylvania, that feels so random to me. And 1000% agree with the majority of your points, I absolutely loved what he did with The Clone Wars. Probably the only time General Grevious was actually a potent, well designed, badass, threat and I loved that.
Genndy is amazing. Samurai Jack and Titan gets a lot of replay in my house. As a non fan of Star Wars his version was incredible. Primal was great and Unicorn was good. Love the little to no dialogue method.
I'm happy to see someone else appreciates Genndy Tartakovsky's work. He's an amazing artist, animator and director. He does not get the attention he deserves.
Let's just all admit it now. Genndy is not just a genius, he's a legend. A true master at his art, and will be one of the few entertainers who will be remembered years, even decades after he passes on.
@@blondiefox2781 to you he is. But then again, most people these days are too small minded to appreciate a film or show that is more of a showing story instead of telling. That's why we have the Disney Star Wars trilogy.
I never felt like Jack was 50+ years older than Ashi, cuz he is stuck inside a weird time pause effect. 'Time has lost it's effect on me'..he says. It's like a glitch. He is young and his age is paused there.
I was always disappointed that symbiotic titan got cancelled. I loved it as a kid and thought it had a lot of potential with cool plot ideas. All of these cartoons were my favorites growing up and I'd like to start watching Primal soon 👏
Dexter's laboratory and Samurai Jack are my childhood ,and Sym-bionic is just something l completely fell in love with, because of how cool it was!! Especially Lance 😍🔥
nice video but this really feels like a video about you saying "i like genndy's work" instead of an actual breakdown and study of his cinematography. keep it up, hope to see more work.
"The Cinematography of Genndy Tartakovsky" you talked nothing about cinematography, all that you talked about was some artistic opinions about the shows from a none artist's point of view
I liked Ashi. Glad she was in the season. I like how she showed Jack's influence while travelling to all the places he had been. It was a great recap of his journey that was about to end.
I owe Tartakovsky a lot for creating some of the most epic and action-packed scenes my character has ever had! My fight with Durge for example showed off lightsaber and Force feats I didn't even know I was cable of performing!
The most iconic thing about Genndy to me has to be his type of art styles. My art style is very geometric(pfp is very old, pay no attention), so seeing someone with many geometric art styles can be motivating for me to continue doing art.
or it could be a combination of Kurosawa, Miller, AND the 70s Kung Fu series. I can pull up my source that says Kung Fu was an inspiration for Samurai Jack if you don't believe me.
This is one really enjoyable video since G.Tartakovsky is amazing animator of my childhood. I dont really agree on some subjects u meantioned but i still really appreciate this video since it really explains full Tartakovskys story.
Man, a dream team up for me would be Genndy Tartakovsky and Zack Snyder. Both their styles of direction and storytelling are so similar, yet I feel like they’d work off each other rather than just do the same thing.
Rewatching Dexters Lab rekindled my love of animation. It’s not just the jokes but the infinite possibilities. I remember how dope the old Justice League cartoons were and really wish Warner had gone animated for their cinematic universe
This video will be very helpful to me. I just binged Primal yesterday on HBOMAX and was blown away. By episode 2 I was glued to the TV, I just couldn't take my eyes off the screen. I see Samurai Jack is also available, so I'll be starting that soon.
Primal came out during my birthday weekend and MAN was that a treat. Also I had nooooo idea he made Symbionic Titan. He’s definitely one of my favorite directors!
I'm a casual fan of the guy. I have seen most of his works, I had no idea he had anything to do with Hotel Transylvania. That is so cool. My kid loves those movies. I enjoyed his works as a kid and now my kids are as well (my son has also watched, and loves dexter's lab) Can't wait to show him samurai jack.
I don't care what anyone says, season 5 of Samurai Jack overall was a fitting conclusion. Bittersweet yes, there is one episode that felt rushed and this is before Aku captures Jack. Each episode had a good split between of course evil and good, but more of the character's inner nature balancing out or coming to closure with inner demons and almost giving up. Still there's some fight that brings out the most hope in them. I love it especially Primal. When that came out it felt like a fresh breath of air in animation all over again in such a long time. I felt completely drained and tired of looking at the same animated shows each person did was a duplicate of another. Don't get me wrong, some had a great storyline and character development, but it was just the style was tiresome to look at.
Since they're making animated video game movies, Tartatovsky should do the one for Legend of Zelda. Since he's so good at conveying character and storytelling without dialogue, he's perfect for Link, a silent protagonist. Also, since players get creative with Link's gameplay, make Link not just a warrior, but a fantasy combat engineer, combining aspects of Dexter's Labratory, Samurai Jack, and some of Symbiotic Titan.
Primal is everything you could want in animation, theres nothing left behind, is a cruel yet beautiful story that everyone can understand beyong languaje. I felt anger, rager, sadness, joy, the whole spectrum of emotions possible with was very surprising coming from a "cartoon" Primal is the very best work of gendy and i have seen almost every cartoon of his, starting from dexter that i raised watching it. I have such high place for primal.
Growing up, Genndy to me was a cinematic cartoonist. If you saw his name anywhere on it, it was guarenteed to be an experience like no other. Usually a grand epic adventure that's full of great references or a serious story that doesn't talk down, but at eye-level. There is so many shows I've discovered thanks to his work, that I keep finding myself going back just to see something I've missed or to experience a grand story all over again.
