Fr! As if the celeb probably didn’t have a team show up to make sure everything was perfect before the interview. “Normal” people will often spruce up their house/clean before guests are coming over, I can only imagine the pre-interview sprucing celebs do.

To me, it doesn't sound like she was trying to lie. Her tone sounds very sarcastic/ironic, specifically because she was surprised to see that big bowl of a fruit she is allergic to prominently displayed in her house while a camera crew was filming her.

Incidentally these celebrity homes are often listed on Zillow straight after their AD video airs. They only show their home once they are no longer using it. They are using the AD video as a free real estate advert that they also get paid for. Cashing in twice.

It probably allows you to channel genuine fury about injustices in your life or that you've witnessed that you feel powerless to tackle into something trivial and therefore manageable. Be careful with your annoyance, anger is your most precious resource when it comes to changing things you need to change. Dilute it too much and it becomes ineffective.

Note: communal apartments are not the same as general soviet apartments. A lot of people shared huge pre-revolution flats in bigger cities, but closer to the end of the soviet era many people moved into their own apartments as those were build everywhere at a huge scale. So for people living in ex-soviet countries staple soviet housing are "projects", not communal apartments. They were so standard at every dimension that there is a cult soviet comedy about a guy who travels drunk to the wrong city, but still finds the same house and the same apartment at the street with the same name and crashes there as it would be his own house.

Wiz Khalifa's is my favorite. Not necessarily architecturally, but just because he has his kid's toys everywhere and doesn't care about the place looking perfect at every angle. People never seem to think about children when they design a house, which I think is a shame because you can have so much fun with it. The house actually felt like people used it instead of a museum. Edit: design-wise I liked Kirsten Dunst, Aaron Paul, and Emma Chamberlain's homes

agree! I feel so sad for those kids living in houses that look like museums/stores, where probably they can't play. So sad. When you have kids stuff gets messy AND IT'S OK. It's life, and the best part of it bc you love them...or you should love them. Kim's house seems like such an un-loving place.

I met Simone de Beauvoir in her Parisian flat in 1985 for about 5 minutes to get an autograph in one of my twin sister’s and my favourite books. I tried to soak up as much as possible, it is one of my most precious memories in my 60 year old life.

I told her, that my twin sister and I love her books and that I wanted to ask, if she would write something in my sister's favorite book, which I had with me ("Les mandarins de Paris "). She smiled and asked us in. She went to get a pencil and wrote "A Claudia R. en toute sympathie, S.de Beauvoir") into the book. My sister couldn't be happier when I gave back the book to her. Mina's correct that real property ownership info is available to the public via county records, but most celebrities will put their homes / properties in trusts or pseudonyms to avoid fans and gawkers. Helps them acchieve a little privacy!

Always found it funny how ultra rich celebrities describe luxurious attributes of their homes as linked to their own personal taste. "I really LOVE big kitchens where all of the family can gather and just hang out" or "big paintings are really my thing".' As if all the rest of us are just like you know what, I don't like big kitchens with super high ceiling and windows towards my swimming pool.

as someone that grew up with an interior designer mom, the houses that prioritize personality over "good" design are by far my favorite. Going to work with her, I always noticed that rich peoples houses are pretty much carbon copies of eachother and are super boring. Like if I walk into your house I want to get an idea of who you are, not just that you hired an interior designer and told them to "do whatevers trendy"

A little correction: communal apartments are not the same as the newer apartment blocks that came under Kruschev - the modernist blocks of flats were actually introduced in mid 50’s as a SOLUTION to communal living that was a thing due to the fact that they couldn’t build an apartment for everyone so people lived either in wooden barracks OR in stalinist/older apartments together

I liked Amanda seyfried's tour a lot. She had reused so many things from previous apartments instead of buying all new all the time. Her kids share a room with bunkbeds. She was really optimising the space. and She was so transparent about it not being her main home, which I really appreciated.

as a hockey fan the AD tour i love most is connor mcdavids house tour. its soulless and terrifying and reflects the dead gleam he has in his eyes sometimes. but it's also very romantic to me. his girlfriend is an interior designer and designed their house and i just feel like to live in a house that cold and unforgiving in a city that cold and unforgiving (edmonton) is just a tremendous act of love.

Me too! I'm always curious about how other people have different styles, preferences, and lifestyles than I do. (Also, a side note if you're curious: Goodwill is a large American nonprofit organization that runs thrift stores all across the country. So it's actually a brand name, rather than a generic term like thrift store, charity shop, or op shop.)

I'm in Canada here. We have thrift (for profit) and charity shops (not for profit) as well but they purposely seem to make it a kind of grey area here. I mean most of my apartment is second hand...Actually I think the only thing that isn't is some knick knacks and fairy houses. I was taught not to spend a lot but like my work is so seasonal that I continue to be careful with it. I'm also in college part-time so it's probably good that I am.

I think if I had a big house built, I’d have the designer create secret passages and underground tunnels but NOT tell me the plans, so I can explore. And if I had a lot more money, pay them to change the layout every couple years. And then maybe charge for public tours and let people explore like they were in a mystery movie/show.

An interesting perspective is the rise in renter friendly apartment upgrades that are directly the opposite of these home tours. Most Americans live in apartments they don’t own and can’t make changes to. It’s why I have a distaste for celebrity and rich home tours. The parallels of seeing someone make expensive renovations and show off their personal taste which often veers into extravagant style that becomes outdated quickly, is such a contrast to the way the 99% live in white be grey apartments they can’t individualize because they’re afraid they won’t get their security deposit back when they move out. Most people in this generation will never own a home, as opposed to the rich who can spend thousands and millions on yearly upgrades without a worry is sad.

I would actually like to see more people do apartment tours and just showcase what they've done with their space. Even if you can't knock out walls or repaint, there's still a ton you can do to make the space your own. Now that we have things like temporary wallpaper that just peels off, or that pretty vinyl stuff that goes in windows, there's more options to decorate that won't damage the apartment. I rent, and I always go all out personalizing my space.

An apartments-only edition would be nice. There's actually a lot you can do in a rental and creative minds will always find a way. I'm glad that the rich can pay incredible artists to make at least some visions come to life. Bc I find it more concerning how little many people do with their homes (grey epidemic etc, I think Mina talked about it in a previous video). So many people in my country are building new homes rn (or they did before the pandemic), but did anything new come out of it? No. They build the basic black and white modern home and you can imagine how these look inside. And there's no excuse bc they have the money to at least buy one weird piece of art or something. But they don't. I've watched many great DIY and makeover channels over the years and I've seen so many great things, for every budget and for renters as well. My problem atm is more the money and yes, renting does limit you. But it's not a good argument why you can't do anything to your home.

I’m way too private to ever show off my house. My neighborhood has a homes and gardens tour every single year. I’m always amazed at how many people are willing to open up their home for tours! I would never do that. Even if my house was perfect and gorgeous. I just can’t. I guess I’m weird.

That’s understandable, but my mom did a home tour once at Christmastime (we didn’t have a grand home, it was a log cabin lol) in our small town as part of a charity fundraiser and it was so much fun! We always go SO out at Christmas and it was an honor to invite our community in and share it - this was like 25 years ago? And people still talk about my moms Christmas tree 😂

not weird at all. i love channels like the sorry girls, i love detailed room makeovers, and i would love to have the time and resources to do that - but when i think about how many details of their homes they show, and how, essentially, i know where a complete stranger keeps their socks, it just freaks me out. no amount of free article furniture is worth that for me.

My favorite celebrity home tour episode was MTV cribs with rapper Red Man. He just lived in a regular ass 1-story house with a messed up doorbell. You had to rub the 2 wires together to get it to work. He had his "dollar box" on his refrigerator, his cousin was sleeping on the floor, and he had a blue portable Dreamcast console on his nightstand. It was so modest and cozy for a musician who had a good amount of fame and money. I was like "I want a house like Redman when I'm older" lol.

When my family moved houses when I was around 6 years old, I was SO excited for people to come to our open house and see how cool my room was. My absolute FAVE AD Open House video is Daveed Diggs & Emmy Raver-Lampman's. They have so much character in almost every room of their home and while it isn't as in-your-face and eccentric as some houses featured, it still has personality. Emmy talks about how she partnered with her interior designer to basically make the home an art project for her and I love that. Some of my favourite features are the wallpaper in the downstairs powder room, the kitchen (so glad I'm not the only one who loves a great kitchen), the punch card, and the little decorations throughout the house that mean so much to them such as the ottoman and the framed newspaper in the hallway.

Regarding searching for celebrity homes: home ownership and sales ARE public record and TECHNICALLY you can find out information that way. HOWEVER: Most wealthy folks have their homes in a trust that isn’t named the same as their name, so it is easier to keep your privacy.

I love Dita Von Teese’s house tour. The kitchen and dining area, plus her outdoor space, were beautiful. But I especially love Kirsten Dunst’s house tour with her designer. I love Kirsten’s interest in vintage/antique stuff and that she loves things that have imperfections. You can tell the designer really understood Kirsten and they collaborated so well, and every piece they talked about had a really meaningful story behind it. I love the AD house tours, and any house/architectural tour),as an escape, but some interiors do inspire my own home decor.

I remember watching Redman's episode of cribs! I thought it was amazing. We had a broken screen door at the time and his same broken screen door made me feel seen! Many years later I actually worked at a real estate company and loved being able to look through listing pictures. I worked weekends a lot, so would talk to new agents who were doing open houses. I have a lot of funny memories, from agents complaining that only nosy neighbours came to vist, to people calling to make appointments to visit an open house, unaware that they didn't need appointments (that's the while point!). I think this kind of content is super addictive at all stages of life. My sister JUST bought a house but still can't stop looking at listings. And I can't blame her.

I don't know for sure if it even was an AD feature, but once upon a time a tour of Amy Sedaris' NY apartment started auto-playing on my RU-vid, and her style was A LOT, but I love color and coziness, and she had made many of her decor items herself, so I was really impressed with her creativity. It was like being in a storybook dialed up to eleventy - or maybe like the set of one of those highly-curated, heightened reality fantasy tv show/movies I like so much. When I suddenly think about that video I often search it and rewatch it. It's comfort food for me at this point lol.

Omg Greta garbo! My brother got married in her Amalfi coast villa in Ravello over the summer (which is now a hotel). Then my family stayed in her Sicilian villa in Letojanni (which is on Airbnb!). Her homes were beautiful, she had impeccable taste. The most stunning properties I’ve ever seen on the Mediterranean! Legend has it that she only visited the Sicilian villa in the winter to avoid fans and tourists. She was super private.

Kirsten Dunst's house is for sure my favorite AD video I've watched so far, she tours by spotlighting specific items, which I thought was pretty unique, and I love her choices. She has so many pieces inspired by media she's been in (like Marie Antoinette), personal interests and favorites, and she's clearly procured her collection over many years, which feels very real. The house seems livable but still interesting, personal. I appreciate her approach.

Rita Ora’s AD tour is definitely one that massively surprised me and a lot of people who’ve seen it - she has what I believe is a Victorian built home in London that was once the residence of Arthur Rackham, a famous illustrator and what she has done with the space is absolutely stunning. She’s kept so much of the original features and character of the house yet it still feels like a home of the present day and not at all dated or old-timey. She also speaks about the home with so much pride and is so well informed on it’s history - it’s just such a great home and such a great tour 💖

i’m so glad you talked ab american vs soviet housing. for one of my courses, i had to do a group project ab postWW2 housing. my specific country was japan, so i covered danchi. however we had to look at political formation, economy, and social demographics. it was interesting to see their housing was borrowed from the ussr while us occupation affected their economic/political functions. architecture is so important to societies.

The concept of communal apartment blocks are nowadays being used as a State’s solution for the housing crisis and has been working well in that sense. People rather have a shelter/home than nowhere to live. Brazil has a similar system, by which low income people/families apply to goverment housing and are selected to live in those houses for free. Although small and away from the city centers, the houses provide families with their basic needs, are placed in gated-communities and you pay very low taxes for its mantainance. I like housing policies a lot

Cara Delevingne’s is one of my favs forever! I like how she has a lot of different areas in her house, but they work together so beautifully, and anyone can find the most comfortable spot for them there. I feel like such home can be both perfect for a huge party for loads of very unalike people, but also is just as ideal for living all by yourself I also enjoyed a lot of the colors, plant themes and details all over the place
