1000 a month?! ozempic is never gonna take hold in a big way because the majority of the population can't afford it. unless they seriously reduce the cost, it's just not gonna happen
Great video. One small criticism, I found it difficult to read the citations that were on the screen as they were, in my opinion, cut away from too quickly and in a busy font. It’s probably more to do with my dyslexia but it was an issue for me.
I agree there’s a very worrying loss of 3rd places and over-dependence on devices as a way to decompress from much more intense daily lives. However, we can’t ignore that leisure time in the past was primarily enjoyed by certain demographics, many of whom benefitted from household staff, access to decent employment and wealth, membership of the right social groups and classes etc. The more that we democratise access to leisure time (quite rightly) the more we expose the imbalanced reliance on others’ labour and sacrifice.
I mean Mina... you are a smart girl.... Bella hadid name dropping pizza places, and getting photographed with pizza in hand, doesn't mean that she eats it (other than a few bites) and it is DEFINITELY NOT HER DAILY SNACK... For fuck's sake...
I wouldn't (and I don't , but I also don't consume this content at all) have a problem with any stay at home moms , but the treadwives really make sure to make content with snarky comment about how they are better or how other women are worse... If the creator uses these stupid comparison voiceovers, or makes comments on her own - promoting HOW THE MEN SHOULD PROVIDE (same shit as these feminine energy cult) - while basically working and making money - that's when I have a real issue. Don't preach other women financial dependence when you have money on your own - making money off them while putting them in danger.
Fun fact - I'm a Catholic psychology student and was supposed to collect data for a research paper in the Brooklyn Diocese. The Sabrina Carpenter situation had them close all approvals for any interaction with the public for a while. People would not dare touch Islam in this way, nor Orthodox Judaism, and they shouldn't. I don't care what your beef with the church is, and it may be 10000% valid. The truth is that Catholicism is practiced by more people than just whites in white countries. Even if you think brown people are *only Catholic* because of colonization, it's so strange that people will simply remove their agency from them by being "you can't *possibly* be Catholic". Same with anyone else who isn't white. Catholicism is practically within culturals but its core rituals and beliefs are the same no matter what culture you go to. It is, in a way, it's own culture (much like Islam, even though Muslims come in many different shapes and sizes), and it's all cultural appropriation. Also, too many edgelord "feminists" and "egalitarians" sexualizing women who desperately don't want to be sexualized. Stop doing it to any woman who chooses modesty.
I am older, dress goth or steampunk most of the time and could really could give zero Fs what people think of it. You have only one life. Am I going to wear pretty things I love, often made on Etsy by many women over 40, or be super worried that this or that doesn’t work? Who cares?
Food quality makes a big difference but the thing that has truly created a blight in the American diet is the over reliance on packaged foods and the lack of understanding of simple cooking techniques as a result. I feel I can make better food than a lot of takeout restaurants and especially Italian restaurants now simply because I know how to make a simple sauce. These items aren’t actually that expensive but you have to know what to do with them. The same with homemade baked goods which certainly don’t require the $$$ kitchen aid stand mixer! There is a time aspect as well but a practiced cook wouldn’t take that much longer
i think for both selena and rihanna these were both more passion projects. they both produced quality products that address issues they both deal with when using makeup. selena's being how she struggles with packaging due to her lupus and rihanna's being how she struggles to find quality products that match darker skin tones. selena's company also supports mental health - something she struggled drastically with. and rihanna donates to her climate change charity, something she is very passionate about.
No joke they made us read lord of the flies too and it became one of my favorite books. I was looking up fan art on deviant art in high school for lord of the flies 😂
it's quite sad to imagine the plus sized model receiving hatred from an industry meaning to be somewhat supportive over their clients. brushing back on the food being a means as luxury is also depressing. to imagine food, a basic necessity, is treated as a lavish lifestyle doesn't help with my image on living lol
This is the only way I find out about all this horseshit. And, as much as I deeply respect Mina's work and efforts, I may have to bow out because I don't need to know about any of it, even though Mina's video essay are exceptional. I don't want to have conversations about any of it. It's boring. As for what I think, well, I grew up poor and I feel that it's given me a huge head start. Being Greek, on top, has given me an even bigger head start, especially since the food I crave is mostly very healthy. Greek peasant food is the best and it's so good that even rich Greeks eat it. No gelatin or sugar soaked Asian food here, lol. If I make Asian food, btw, which I love, I use stevia, as I don't consume ANY sugar (that stuff is a toxic drug) but the lemon chicken I made the other day was horrifying, lol. So, no more lemon chicken for me, which frankly, is no great loss. I'll have avgolemono instead. More people should know about avgolemono, man, like, wth. You can make it any way you like; pork/ celery, chicken, vegan, etc. I've had vegetarian avgolemono many times and it's never about missing out. It's just a kick-ass soup. There are Greek desserts that I'd love to stevia-ify but again, I didn't grow up eating much of it, so you can't miss what you never had. And that's a win for growing up poor, ironically. As for the whole mythology of French food, it's important to recognise that there are classes in every society and that more "humble" French people get along just fine. In fact, since quitting sugar six or seven months ago, and having been a sweet tooth most of my life, I now go to fruit, dried fruit, honey and cheese for snacks and my weight is still steadily dropping. I've dropped 90% of my grains and carbs, too. I was 95kg, 5ft8in last year and I've lost around 15kilos. The moment it really sunk in that sugar is BAD for me was a turning point. I don't cheat. I don't secretly desire it. I don't crave junk. I've taken back control, period. If you were "unlucky" enough to have all the trimmings growing up, well, it's for you to figure out how to tackle that but don't underestimate the power of self-control and educating yourself. You don't even need to read a book or watch any videos whatsoever, just be smart. Sugar is cheap, and I loved it, so if I can give that crap up, you can do anything you want with any food. A big part of it is just not prioritising food intake. I eat when I'm hungry and I consciously keep it humble. Get humble. Stop being a puppet for anything or anyone. I think the other thing worth mentioning is that people are spending a lot of their income on rent so the market is shifting towards new ways of manipulating people's consumption practices. It feels manipulative that this phenomenon is suddenly a thing (and it's news to me because I curate my watching habits and haven't watched TV in TEN YEARS - suck it, media, lol, I'm not your bitch). Just be humble and get away from stoopid media and you'll be fine. Get all the stoopid people out of your life, too, coz HEY, life is short and precious.
British food is better than its alleged rumors. I never ate bad in the uk. Going for a Sunday roast in a pub gets you affordable tasty meals, and a good amount of veggies. Even the fries aka chips are really good there.
I struggled with anorexia for several years and one thing I've found is that starvation (self-inflicted or otherwise) tends to actually reinforce and fuel obsession with food - thinking about it, looking at it, watching videos of it etc. sort of like eating vicariously instead of actually eating. i bet that a lot of these models are actually super food-obsessed and that the uptake in food trends is reflective (not contradictory) of mass propagated starvation
should i ever get married, im gonna get a custom dress that i can wear whenever i want. if im gonna drop that kinda cash i want to get my money's worth!
I live below the poverty line in a major city in Australia. Fresh fruit, vegetables and meat are plentiful and I am able to eat whole foods every day because I cook at home. I think the main "food flex" here is being able afford to go out for food with friends, even if it's just the local pub (the vast majority of which are owned by the same conglomerate as Woolworths supermarkets). It says a lot about you to be seen in a photo where you are seated around a table with half a dozen smiling friends, gathering as equals with your matching seats, plates, cutlery and crockery. Never mind who's on a winning salary and who's on the dole.
this topic is so connected to weight it could be its own series. like unless you eat a small, dry salad of Super Greens (hate that phrasing) everything gets you the most vilest of vitriol for daring to eat while fat, esp In Public. i really cannot overstate how constantly dehumanized myself and others have been for just existing, all excused by being "worried" for our "health". fat people are seen as dirty, gross, unhealthy, poor, indolent, and deserving of all suffering and disease and disability we might have.
