In this final part of the review, I share with you the reasons why I hate this watch.
No watch is perfect so there're bound to be some stuffs that I find irksome on the AQ4020.
That said, this is still a great watch and it's staying in the collection for a while.

When I shopped my Chronomaster, I found that I didn't like the feel of the screw-down crown. It just didn't move and thread smoothly, so I skipped the "sporty" ones like this with the crown guards. But I don't understand why resizing the bracelet has to be your problem; Don't the ADs do this for you? One other thing: At some point the rechargeable cell will need replacing. And solar cells don't last forever. And because of the cost of the Chronomasters, you'll be motivated to find a way to get them serviced, rather than disposing of them like cheaper watches.

All valid points you made. Well I’m not a fan of the crown guards, it’s the only one that fits what I’m looking for (thinness, paper dial, etc). Gotta make do. Why don’t I let AD resize my bracelet? I don’t trust anyone else but myself to do such things now. Too many stories and experience from shoddy workmanship.

Oh man the little tiny screw reminds me of sizing my Omega smp bracelet. Such fiddly work for the 2 handed.

I recently found another resizing system that’s worse. The cheap Casio stamped clip system just took the title from this.

I agree with you that the resizing system of the bracelet is fiddly, and that the crown is a bit small. But it helps that it's a set it and forget it watch with its feature packed movement, also the super titanium coating should alleviate any worries about scratching when adjusting the screws on the bracelet.

I’d rather not take chances when resizing the bracelet. Full tape and cloth protection for the watch for sure. Once the resize is done and time is set, it will be good to go. Mine hasn’t missed a sec since mid-Dec. Loving this accuracy.

You can’t resize the bracelet by unscrewing one and then the other? Why both at the same time?

That’s because if you turn the screw at one end, the entire bar moves. You need both screw heads to be engaged for this purpose, hence my difficulty resizing this bracelet.

Hey, I got this watch the other day and I am confused about the screw. Is it supposed to be a non-screw crown? It doesn’t tighten at all and the manual is very confusing about this specific part (“certain models have a lock…”). Is it the same for yours? I specifically have the AQ4020-54Y. Thank you very much!

Congrats! No this doesn’t have a screw-down crown. I guess the manual is printed for a few different models so it could be confusing. Enjoy your watch!

I have only ever had a mechanical watch where the crown really screws in so i guess i kind of panicked… I am so happy to have such an accurate watch and the fact that it is solar powered is the coolest thing. I liked and subscribed :) Ps. I agree about avoiding boutiques. I have had two casio gshocks that coincidentally stopped working shortly after replacing their batteries -.-

Please, could you explain me how did you resize your bracelet without making any damage? I tried but I pulled the plug because I was not successful.

I used two 1.4mm screwdrivers for that. Specially ordered screwdrivers, not those you find in a set. It’s not easy because this bracelet system is a pain in a**. Maybe I should do a video on that.

The new models have the The Citizen Chronomaster eagle on the crown. Reason to get a new model?

Actually it’s a tough choice. The new model has the eagle emblem and a signed crown but it is thicker at around 12mm. I guess it depends on what is important to you. For me I prefer a slimmer watch so this version is the one for me.

Newer models are generally full price; If you can get an older model, you can save money. They should all work about the same, but at about 7 years old you may want to exercise some caution, due to recharging cell and solar cell aging. And, for those who take these to other continents, just be aware that your local Citizen service centre might not be in a position to be able to support you.
