this is the police/mail van from many European countries from years ago. Often starred in movies from its era and loved by everyone who remembers it. I still see them here in Copenhagen from time to time and they always bring a smile to my face

When I was a kid in the '70's these were all around me on the roads (The Netherlands). They were then hugely popular too but more because they were cheap cargo haulers/maintenance vans etc. etc...

The Citroën H type is not a TUB, Those are two different vehicles ! I don't blame you, many people are doing the mistake.

It's so cool that there's a body kit for the current model van that dresses it up as a homage to these vans. It actually look reasonable.

Feeling vibes from the movie “high tension”. This van deserves a cult following from that movie alone. You couldn’t have had a more perfectly creepy/ridiculous car for that movie IMO

Actually, it’s wrongly called le TUB or Le Tube even by the french. The TUB or Traction Utilitaire Bass - (loosely translated as Low Delivery Front Drive Van) was the predecessor of the Citroën HY, produced between 1939/41), but remained in people’s mind when the HY was launched.

In the mid sixties, I was a student, and my summer job was working as a delivery driver. I was given an old Citroën H. It wasn't much fun to drive with its very heavy steering and brakes and poor ventilation. I dont really regret it !

Icon and legendary in its own niche genre, I don't think any other van has such a marque in this category of heritage. Personally think the design has so much character...by the bucket. I might have to buy the Solido 1/18 scale model of it, already have a 1/43 model, its such a charming little fella.😋💨💯💨😎💨👍

Wheeler Dealers found a Ford crossflow conversion that fitted nicely I think it was bored out to 2.1 or 2.2 litres as well.

FWD = no transmission tunnel; IRS = no rear beam axle, so low loading floor with unobstructed loading area.

Sadly you can't get these for a reasonal price anymore. They're also all converted to foodtrucks so if you want a normal one you're not in luck

"Very well thought through".... except it doesn't have an oil filter... so after around 5000 km... the engine had to be rebuild, so most of these have their engines replaced with of a Ford Pinto.
