Great post! Thanks for answering the questions so honestly. A lot of great points there. I'm currently reading Stamped From the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi and the current chapter I'm on covers the Civil War and the racist ideas of the time. It's eye opening. I'll probably be jumping into the Civil War next, so thank you for your recommendations 👍🏽

Thanks so much! If you’re interested in reading about the history of American racism further I’d recommend The Condemnation of Blackness by Khalil Gibran Muhammad. It was an eye-opener for me.

This was wonderful. I wish I could make everyone see this video. One hears so much nonsense spouted whenever the Civil War comes up and you’ve just cut through it all. Yeah, the hat sorta completes the whiskered look. 😂

I need to read and reread more Ambrose Bierce. I remember in high school (80s) a lot of boys loved Southern rock and displaying the Confederate flag. Great answers.

The new death figure is 750,000-800,000 based on a different methodology from the 600,000+ figure. It is generally now-accepted.

Yeah... We all knew that the 600,000625,000 (the number sround the Centenniel when I was doing the start of my academic history) was low. The newest number is basically derived from the difference between the Census of 1860 and 1870 (with adjustments0;the difference between 1870 and the number it SHOULD have been is attributed to the war. This is how the Soviets got to their losses in World War 2...@@revenantreads

Im a civil war button collector. And have well over 50 ive done videos of my most expensive civil war book is tices book of buttons at $250. Shelby foote and the jack Hinson book is my favorite, and the books on the Caroline regiments. If you like war buttons check out a few of mine i have some rare one's
