The Clean and Tidy Home Solution | Homemaking Motivation for Peace and Productivity 

This was so timely for me. We were away most of last week and returned home yesterday. My son is 20 and was home caring for our pets and working, he “picked up” before we got home but oh boy our home was in a bit of disarray. This morning my husband looked at me and commented “it feels like our lives are a mess and I can’t function”. I was feeling exactly the same way. I was overwhelmed and decided to tackle the mess. I picked up, did laundry, cleaned the kitchen from top to bottom, and made a healthy nutritious dinner. I will finish getting us back on track tomorrow. At dinner my husband thanked me for always making sure our home is tidy and organized. He didn’t realize how much the disarray would affect him. He grew up with a hoarder and it has caused him a lot anxiety in adulthood. I will mention he worked all day in our yard and ran to get groceries for us. We are a team and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Completely agree, Robin! When my children were little I also found that they were more settled and played more contentedly in a tidy environment. We didn't have toys everywhere and they weren't allowed to just dump all the toys out and this led to them playing with the toys that were out in a more contented way. They were able to sink deeper into play and things were less frenetic.

Love the peacefulness of a tidy home! With modern day conveniences, cleaning is really very simple. I often think of my grandparents who were raising children during the Great Depression and how much harder life was without a dishwasher, washer/dryer etc. We really have so much to be thankful for.

I agree completely Robin. My home is clean and tidy and I really couldn’t have it any other way. It relieves my mind when I walk around and see everything in its place. It also makes it easier to locate items that are organized. You can waste a lot of time looking for things when there is not a home for those items. It keeps everyone calm and relaxed and not panicking for things. I treat my garage the same way. Being consistent helps so much. I don’t let things get out of control. I walk around daily to make sure all items are back in their proper place before going to bed at night . Thanks again for the motivation! Have a good week!

Absolutely WONDERFUL video! I have always loved decorating and cleaning but sometimes found myself hiding things in closets and drawers. Never dirty, but a little disorganized. It didn’t help that I inherited my Parents home that housed things they had inherited from their Parents and Siblings! About three years ago, after I couldn’t find some paperwork, I started my decluttering journey! Best thing I’ve ever done! Period! I’m now considering downsizing when I retire in a year. I just don’t have a need for eight sets of fine china, glassware, silver and 5 bedrooms! And my Children don’t want most of it. I’ve enjoyed watching your journey. You seem very peaceful and relaxed! I have been ill the past week and a half (thanks Covid! 😡) so my house has been in total disarray! And at the present I just don’t have the energy to put it back to rights. I really enjoyed this video! I have not always been organized and tidy, I have developed those traits over the years. (And I have some work to do still). I do not operate well in chaos, and I try to keep it from creeping into our home. That being said, when I’m in the middle of a project, I can make a real mess! The key for me is to quit before I’m tired to leave myself the time and energy to clean up. One must for me is to go to bed with a clean kitchen. Nothing is more demoralizing than waking up to a mess in the kitchen. I agree that God created in an order and His world is ordered, so I believe it’s the optimal way for us to strive to live. I love how your home is organized and decorated, it looks so bright and clean and refreshing! 😊 I live in a rented apartment, so of course the design can't be changed, but if I keep it clean we enjoy the space we're in, even if it isn't what we'd think of as our "dream house." I'm thankful my mom always taught us the principle that things don't have to be fancy or expensive--as long as they're clean, they'll be pleasant! ❤

Hi Robin - sincerely this was such a great video with such wise advice. For me it’s more mental than anything else. I cannot be at peace if my house is in disarray. I have not been able to clean like I normally would like to but things stay neat and tidy and the girls do a good job of cleaning but I will be glad when I can do more. The last few days I have been feeling more like myself and I even went to Sunday school and church this morning. They took me off the medicine that was making me so sick. I’m sorry that I could not take the medicine because it could’ve really helped me in a lot of ways but it is good to be feeling like myself again. You always have such encouraging words and videos. The idea of a calming home hit home for me. We have an old wood table given to us. To me it's Iarge and ugly. I've asked my husband if it could be painted or have a lacquer finish which our son could do, but he is so busy with work to do it now. I guess I have to be patient. Last week you gave me encouragement to do some scrapbooking. Well, I need to tidy up the space in order to have creativity. I'll let you know what progress I make this week.😊

Yes, very definitely our environment affects our mental and physical health and I feel my spirits lift when my home is clean and tidy. I think it is equally important for adults, children and pets... Everyone benefits from the warm feeling of being nurtured that a well ordered home conveys. My three brothers and three sisters, mum, daddy and pets grew up in a modest but clean and tidy home where everything had a place and everything was routinely returned to it's place immediately after use. Now I need my simple effective routines and clean organised home to help me deal with serious health issues and see my homemaking as self care and love for my brother and our lovely big Springer Barney. I totally agree and enjoy keeping my home clean and tidy. Each night especially I empty the dishwasher, mop the kitchen floor and tidy up ready for another day! A peaceful organised house is a happy house for the family. Also the touch things once method so you don’t end up moving things from one place to another, but instead put them in their rightful place straight away which saves time and keeps the place tidy.

I always tidy up before I go to bed otherwise I know my day will not start off well the next morning. I only purchase items that I really need now as I realise family is important not possessions. I sometimes make a similar recipe for chicken fingers. Instead of the breading, I brush the chicken pieces with mustard and roll them in grated parmesan, then bake them. Very simple, and no gluten. If you don't like mustard, you can use mayonnaise instead, but I enjoy the zip of the mustard.

Robin, I thoroughly enjoy your videos and find them quite inspiring. The timeliness of this message was definitely God- ordained, affirming what I experienced this past summer break and with a family reunion in my home the first weekend after school started. Because I deep cleaned my kitchen early in the summer, sorting, pitching, and reorganizing, I found myself far less stressed and better able to enjoy my husband's family when I wasn't at school. As a full-time HS English teacher with an hour and a half on the road every day, along with advisory commitments that can run late into the evening, I find lack of time is my worst enemy, that and a perfectionistic streak that sometimes makes getting started difficult. Can you recommend a channel that addresses the restrictions of those of us who work outside the home? I will, of course, continue to watch your videos: we are of like faith, and your suggestions and commentary are firmly rooted in biblical principles. Thank you for sharing your life with us!

What a wonderful episode! I’ve always noticed that before I can quilt, I have to restore order to my quilting room. It’s the same thing with cooking; I have to have all the dishes put away, and the sink open, but I never applied that same principle to keeping order in my house. Plus, I liked your reminder of how God created order, not chaos.

Loved this video. I totally agree with it. I really like for my home to be nice and neat. I dont find it as hard to do as so many of my family and co workers did. My mom was a really good homemaker and I always have been that way. I guess it can be a gift for some and a learninng process for others. But, I feel like many people do want a nice clean home or at least an uncluttered one. I have always had to really work at cooking has not been a natural gift I had. And your words were a good reminder that I not only do it for my own mind and mood but also my family’s. Your chicken recipe looks delicious. I make a similar one but instead of egg and flour, I use melted butter on the chicken before putting it thru the breadcrumbs. I find it comes out a lot juicer that way! Thanks again for the video. All she needs to do is (fill in the blank).” Now that I’m older, I immediately think, “ Oh, no, she needs help and prayer!” Oh, to have the energy from my 30’s!

I like the concept of clean and tidy and also that everyone in the household pitches in. I don’t believe there are gender specific jobs. Rather, I believe that people should do what they enjoy doing and if no one enjoys the task then it should get rotated. One word I hate is “proper”, I know it is thrown around a lot when discussing household tasks, it’s such a subjective word. What one person considers “proper” another might not, even in the same household. Also, if we are going to encourage all members of the household to contribute to tasks we need to get rid of “right” way versus “wrong” way. Most household tasks don’t have a right or wrong way, just different ways of getting something done. Especially with young kids I think it’s important to set aside high standards for “good enough” as kids are learning how to do things. Even after they get more adept at tasks, there is usually more than one way to complete a task and have it done well. “Right” is often used instead of saying “my” way. Finally, I don’t believe in paying members of the same household for the work they do to maintain the household as a clean and orderly space. Household chores are what must be done to take care of the place we live. Paying for household chores is what we do when someone who doesn’t live under our roof comes in on a regular basis to do our household duties.

Daniel would be make more messes if the house was super clean and organized. I organize my room and the kitchen daily. Lee and Daniel keep their rooms on the messy side. I tackle them once in a while. Right now keep my things organized but the room I'm in has clutter since the owner of it never purges anything even if it is not being used. The storage areas are busting out with her stuff. Still waiting on a job. I really want to get one soon so I can get a place for the three of us.
