lin phou oh yes Kix is still alive isn’t he, it’s sad that both Kix and Fives found out about Order 66 and they were both taken out of the equation before they could tell anyone
@@emperorholocron8278 He is alive and joined a gang of pirates. I'll say he is doing good but considering his nature he'll probably gonna end up helping the resistance.
Also ,was the smaller droid , a previous version of Chopper? I know Chopper is built from different parts , maybe his personality is within this one...?.. maybe...anybody..
@@renerodriguez295 Chopper was crashed on Ryloth and stayed there throughout the Clone Wars and Empire, so chronologically it doesn't make sense to me. To say that Ashoka saves this droid or sends its parts to a person she doesn't know yet is a bit of a stretch. CH-33P is a C1 astromech just like Chopper, and to me that's all they have in common.
Booo. I hate that. The whole droid team up feels out of place especially in this episode. Besides that this is the best episode in the history of the show
So for anyone who does not understand why rex said "lord sidious" and not "my lord", this is not a retcon or fanservice, this is pure brilliance by filoni: Rex calls palpatine sidious, because the very second he gets the order from him and his mind is not totally corrupted yet, he figures it all out that the chancelor is darth sidious, because as seen in the Episode, rex knows everything about Mauls Vision, because ahsoka most likely told him. This is when rex asks ahsoka if she told the council about General skywalker and mauls Vision. Also rex was there when ahsoka and obi wan talked about darth sidious and then obi wan said that they think he orchastrated the clone wars and played both sides. So the Moment sidious said execute order 66, rex put it all together and realized that the chancelor is the sith lord darth sidious. But were you truly see it the most, is in the silence of palpatine, when rex called him sidious. Palpatine was shocked that rex knew about his true identity and realized how close the jedi were to find out the truth and end it all, especially ahsoka with maul captured. Well sadly, they were not close enough, because ahsoka let cloud her judgement by her emotions for anakin :(
I hope in the next episode this is elaborated in because its a cool theory. I hope we see a scene where Palpatine is pondering on why Rex called him Sidious.
so does this confirm that palpatine called every commander himself? :D i dont have a problem with rex calling him sidious but iwould have preferred: it will be done my lord
@@TheEnecca he did, best example is Cody, where he specifically said "comander Cody, the time has come". So yes, i do believe he called every commander by himself and all the lower ranked clones got a Transmission as seen in the episode. We also only see the end of the conversation, were palpatine says execute order 66, but i do believe he said before that commander rex, the time has come and all of that
@@TheEnecca i think calling him sidious just Shows and symbolizes that rex is the most human of them all. If he would have said it will be done my lord, he would be one of millions, but this way he again Sticks out. Its just the perfect circle, the Mission of the show the clone wars was to humanize the clones and this episode i do believe is the pinnacle of that. Rex being able to fight the order for a few seconds and putting all the pieces together with fives, the inhibitor Chip and darth sidious is just perfection and Shows he has his own mind and a free will
Kevin Kiner kills it in this episode, especially with the “I’m so sorry” cue when order 66 starts. Also I’m just so impressed by how much Filoni and co. have improved in their direction. So much of the first half of this episode is just atmosphere and dread, love it
Anthony Fins they have actually humanized the clones in a way no one expected. They didn’t do this much even in the OG clone wars. Did they ever even take of their helmets in the 2002 rendition?
For me the “what have I done” which combines the voice of Hayden Christensen with Matt Lanter, which is part of the sequence Ahsoka senses, is the best part of all this entire episode. I actually feel like this proper version of Anakin that we have grown to love is now in episode 3 for good. Incredible
It hurt but I’m glad they didn’t do some “Rex is a main character so he can magically resist Order 66” bs. He resisted for a second because he was the only one somewhat aware but it made it all the more chilling that he obeyed
Seeing Rex fight so hard against his “programming”, shaking, fighting back tears and trying so hard to relay one last message to his friend really tore at my soul. The Jedi were not the only ones to be terminated during order 66, but also every Clone Trooper’s true self.
One of the things I like about this episode is Ahsoka's moment with Yoda after the others leave. When she said she did her duty as a citizen and Yoda questions "Not a Jedi?", she says "Not yet." I wonder what that meant. He also calls her Padawan showing that deep down even though she walked away from the Order, she's still one of them in his eyes. That's heartbreaking but I love it. This episode completely broke me. I don't see what happened here as retconning Rebels at all. When the order came in, he hesitated unlike every other clone. He did everything he could to warn Ahsoka before the chip took over his mind. In a way, he never did truly betray her, he tried to keep her alive. He saved her life twice this episode IMO. Those two clones on the bridge would have just gunned her down without another thought. Also when Palpatine contacts Rex to activate Order 66, Rex calls him "Lord Sidious". At first I thought that was strange because the clones don't know him by that name but then I thought about it more and I think Rex worked out that Palpatine was Darth Sidious. We know he investigated more after Fives' death and he was with Ahsoka and Bo Katan when Obi-Wan talked about Sidious' role in orchestrating the Clone Wars in the previous episode, so he knows that the name of the Sith behind everything. When a signal from Chancellor Palpatine's office came in and triggered Order 66, I think that was the final piece of the puzzle in Rex's mind. He figured out Palpatine's real identity and I don't know if that was a slip of the tongue but the way Sidious lingered for a moment instead of immediately ending the call, makes me think he knows Rex worked it out. Obviously I could be wrong and all this means nothing but just the possibility that's what happened blew my mind.
There was a brief mention of one of them in the Bounty Hunter Wars series by Derek Jeter and it went something like Dengar was familiar with carbon freezing but preferred the beskar holding containers over them. Due to their being so difficult to find after the near destruction of Mandalore, he wondered if he would ever see them again ... so yes I assume they always had been made of beskar
501st journal - Felucia: Heart of Darkness "Our only hope was Aayla Secura our jedi commander. Without her I well none of us would come out of that miss with our sanity or our lives. When her death came I hope it was quick, she earn that much" "When the 501st were finally rotated out of Felucia Aayla Secura made a point to see us off personaly calling the bravest soldier she ever seen. Is a good thing we were wearing helmets, because none of us could bare to look her in the eye."
Andrés Merced the reason they couldn’t bare to look her in the eye was that the 501st left Felicia to go to the temple to execute the Jedi, they knew what was next so they couldn’t bare to look her in the eye
I feel bad for Yoda. He’s the only likable Jedi at that meeting and he just so badly wants Ashoka back in the order and for things to go back to the way they were before the war. Little does he know that his entire world is going to *ahem* shatter further and it’s just sad :(
Scheibe I think in his season 6 arc he is well aware of what’s about happen. I think he was the most prepared for it mentally. Still desperately trying to prevent it. I do agree tho I think the scene of him staying behind to talk to Ashoka and the Padawan remark are to show Yoda wishes Ashoka to return and regrets what transpired. I personally feel Yoda, Obi-Wan and Plo-koon were the ones that were opposed to Ashoka being turned over to the Republic. I feel Windy pushes it because he’s worried about public impression (which is fair) but he does seem to hold onto some resentment. The others followed him because it makes sense. PLO didn’t believe it, Obi-Wan basically refused and I think Yoda disagreed but he understood Windu’s reasoning and went with Majority rule hoping it would turn out ok.
"I'm sorry CITIZEN" - Mace Windu "Theres no such thing as luck." - Ki Adi Mundi "I had to make a choice, but not to worry, the Force will be with you." - Luminara Unduli The Jedi are so unlikable
Well to be fair to Mace, Ahsoka was also being spiteful by saying she is just a “citizen” when even without Rebels we all that’s never going to be true.
@@luckysix1015 tbf tho ashoka has reason to be spiteful to the jedi after they accused her of treason whereas the jedi are still butthurt bcos ahsoka chose to leave
Notice how Rex’s pupils dilate when taking the order from Darth Sidious. I wonder if that’s a physical effect from the chip. Super interesting and so much detail!
I got strong Force Unleashed vibes from Maul’s rampage. The way he pulls panels off of the walls to shield himself or hurl at enemies is very Starkiller (not to mention Sam is behind both). Even the blue light that shines out from beneath the lighting panels when he pulls them is reminiscent of the “Force” UI element in Unleashed. Love the subtlety of that.
Ikr funny how Ahsoka is threatening Maul with her lightsaber when we all know he could easily disarm her & force choke her just like here. Please sit down child, Maul would LOW DIFF you with the force alone without his lightsabers if he wanted to. Ahsoka only survived because of plot lmfao.
@@elliotkouame3849 no lol Ahsoka can't be compared to Maul AT ALL. Maul's force power >>> Ahsoka's. There's no contest here. Maul would easily ragdoll Obiwan with the force, what is Ahsoka's compared to that? Nothing.
@@eduardosnow7374 she "owned" him, what are you, a blind Ahsoka fan? LOL Maul out dueled her twice in the same episodes, both she and her lightsabers went flying. That and Maul wasn't even TRYING to kill her. If he wanted her dead then she would be DEAD.
When Rex turns around you can see him losing the battle in his own mind to resist. At first, his heart tells his clones, "NO". But he is overwhelmed by his mind, and is forced to "Do it myself". We see him tell her to "Stay back!" because he does not want to have to do what he is programmed to. He knows, and fears what he has to do. And when he says "Find him, find him, fives, FIND HIM, FIVES!", you can find the exact moment the Rex we knew, was gone. Also another neat thing. Once the inhibitor chip was removed, he calls her "Kid" and "Ahsoka". We have very rarely seen him refer to her in this fashion, and on top of this, during the first episode of the arc, we saw as Rex refused to call her anything but "Commander". So maybe there are some side effects to the chips. Edit: Yet another amazing detail. When the order initially comes through, and Ahsoka is battling on the bridge. You can see her deflecting all the blasters up so to not hurt anyone.
@@Captain_Yorkie1 Nah. I think they died.. And he's a highly trained Solider. Do you really think he shot them, and that the shots weren't fatal? And you could argue that he didn't want to kill his Brothers, but they tried to kill Ahsoka, and if anybody tried that, Rex would definitely shoot to kill. Ahsoka is besides Anakin his best Friend and would do ANYTHING to protect her..
Dread it run from it Destiny arrives all the same, and now it's here I know that's a line from a completely different franchise but when I saw these episodes it kind of just popped into my head
A few other things I noticed: 1. When Ahsoka went to her old R7, it and none of the other droids apparently haven't been through a memory wipe because they are all very happy to see her and help her (probably because of her and Anakin being very nice to their Astromech Droids and not seeing them as just tools like the other Jedi). 2. When you look at the Clone Wars as a whole, you could see Anakin was more "Rex's Jedi", and Ahsoka wasn't technically a Jedi when Order 66 was started, so what Rex said could still be considered True (Time to use that "From a Certain Point of View" logic).
We need some kind of montage at the end like we got at the end of Rebels. I need to see Rex re-uniting with Wolffe and Gregor. I need to see Ahsoka going into hiding. I need to see the galaxy transforming into the Empire.
I'd love a scene like that flashing between scenes showing the rise of the empire using scenes from the books and comics. So the furnace that burns the light sabres, vader bleeding his crystal, tarking engaging in the clone-wars clean-up campaign, krenick handing kybers over to galen, etc. coupled with ones showing hope like Caleb Dune escaping to start his new life as Kanen, yoda landing on degobah and building his hut, post-mind wipe c3p0 meeting r2 for the first time again, Saw garrera and cham syndulla fighting the on-gong fight, obi wan trying to set up a new life on tattooin (with hopefully a little nod to the obi wan book, which isnt cannon, but is wondefuly self contained that it could be), Rex greggor and wolf meeting up, and Ahsoka being escorted onto the tantiv iv meeting bail organa again.
Same! Anakin's betrayal in episode 3 always seemed far-fetched to me, but getting to spend more time with the character and seeing his slow descent into darkness makes him so much more compelling. It also helps that the shows gave a better look at his relationship with Padmé, which helps is understand why he would do anything to save her.
Rex's comment in Rebels may not have even been retconned here. You could almost say that he said that for Kanan's sake, since the guy didn't trust them at all. One of those "from a certain point of view" moments in Star Wars.
That music playing during the first 10 minutes or so sure did help to create tension... In defense of Mace Windu, I believe he was right to hide to Ahsoka that they suspected the Supreme Chancellor to take complete power and overthrow the Senate. The Jedi Council knows, since Ahsoka told Obi Wan last episode, that Ahsoka is more on Anakin's side concerning Palpatine. So telling her what they suspected would have put doubts in her mind. She could have alerted Palpatine of eventual "Jedi betrayal". Ahsoka did not help herself when she said that what she did on Mandalore was as a citizen, not as a Jedi. Which means that she does not have a strong loyalty, if any, towards the Jedi. Which means that Windu had no reason to trust her with sensitive information, hence the "I'm sorry, citizen." And Ahsoka understood his reasons.
When they were taking Maul to the ship, there were shots of just soooo many clone troopers, and I feel like those shots have a very different context knowing that Order 66 is coming
You can see Rex’s pupils change when order 66 happens like tup’s in season six. And after order 66, none of the clones take off their helmets and all of the navy officers disappear. They don’t show their faces any more, they’re not the humanized soldiers we’ve seen for so long, they’re just as faceless and robotic as the empire’s stormtroopers.
Everyone is missing this! The “Im one with the force and the force is with me” came from rebels first, Ezra said in the second part of empire day when he is trying to connect to the creatures. That came out in season 1 well before rogue one, maybe it was being written at the time of release but still was shown first in rebels.
This pretty much confirms that Order 66/Inhibitor Chips are voice activated as not only does Palpatine look like a Sith but Rex says "Lord Sidious." Also I like the use of Episode 3 dialogue in Ashoka's 'vision' but still uses Matt Lanter for "What have I done?!" at the end of it.
The score during the first half was incredible. The episode was like aware that we all knew what was coming and the score was just setting us on edge the whole time.
No, he was moved to commander of the 332nd, while Appo was promoted from sergeant to commander of the 501st. His order was to terminate jedi leadership, and ashoka was still a jedi, and certainly still leadership to all the clones
The music in this episode was outstanding - the sense of dread and tension it helped create was stellar! Also, ‘’Maul-ibal Lector” in that Mandalorian holding cell? GENIUS!!!
Food for thought: Ahsoka's act of saving Maul from execution in this episode saved the entire Star Wars galaxy. Here's why: 1. Luke Skywalker destroyed the Death Star, which saved the Rebellion that would later take down the Empire, freeing the galaxy. 2. Han Solo saved Luke's life and helped him destroy the Death Star by knocking Vader's fighter out of the trench run (as he was about to kill Luke) with the Millenium Falcon. 3. Han Solo only met Luke because he was on Tatooine, and he was only on Tatooine because Beckett told him about Jabba the Hutt. 4. Beckett only met Han because he was on a mission for Crimson Dawn, WHICH WAS CONTROLLED BY MAUL. 5. Maul was only alive to run Crimson dawn BECAUSE AHSOKA SAVED HIM FROM EXECUTION. Think about that.
That shot of Rex’s Helmet shaking gave me goosebumps...it took everything he had to warn her before firing on Ashoka. The silence in this episode was absolutely CHILLING.
I'm a little bit surprised you didn't mention the music of this episode, which was absolutly perfect. It had the same deeply depressing feeling to it as the scene on coruscant in episode 3 when padme was looking at the jedi temple after anakins transformation to vader happend. I loved it!
There is nothing Ahsoka could have done to stop the events that happened. there is nothing she could have told mace that would have made a different. Anakin by that time was already off to Palpatine who at that time tells anakin straight up that he is the sith lord. so what would the jedi have done? by the time it mattered it was too late. Anakin then goes to mace and tells him about Palpatine. Mace would then have done the exact same thing. told him to remain there, claiming he will have earned his trust if things go right. Ahsoka knew nothing about Order 66. Ahsoka didn't know about Palpatine. even if she told them about the anakin thing. what would the jedi have done with that information while anakin was learning from the man himself that he was the sith lord? before yno telling Mace himself.
We all knew this was coming we were all prepared to be heartbroken but sadly it had to be. That ending where Rex intentional kills his own brothers... Also for any Discrepancies Rex does as whole whole yes he does say in rebels he “never betrayed his Jedi” there are two simple explanations -the in-universe explanation: You can easily handwave that and say Rex is just misremembering(he is old after all) -The real reason/behind the scenes expiation: While their are plenty of Discrepancies between here, Rebels, the son of Dathomir comic, and the Ahsoka book keep in mind it all boils down to “They weren’t anticipating for Clone wars to return”. Besides that It’s a lot more tragic for Rex realizing Fives was right all along. Also just think the bigger picture people, the broad strokes are being followed. If telling a good and compelling story means cracking a few eggs then so be it.
"One question for you, Tyranus. Why me? There are plenty of bounty hunters out there." "But there are few who have your reputation, Jango Fett. Both in terms of your skills and your discretion."
During the transport scene “What I remember about the rise of the Empire is… is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Clone Wars, the 501st Legion was discreetly transferred back to Coruscant. It was a silent trip; we all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts? Any private traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on the flight back to Coruscant, not when Order 66 came down, and not when we marched into the Jedi Temple. Not a word."
this episode was awesome, the eerie soundtrack just before order 66 sent shivers down my spine... Btw Star Wars Explained, you forgot to mention we saw Ursa Wren, Sabine's mother, unmasked!
Another part of the episode that was so amazing was them playing dark deeds when the clones attack! That made it felt Revenge of the sith began and how quiet it was on the ship and the music playing kind of reminded me of the scene where Anakin was crying on Coruscant where there was so much tension and the end is near. The show did such an excellent job at building it up!
When Maul mauled those clones i was like: I guess that’s why he’s called Darth Maul. Also the fact he decapitated the clones with JUST A WALL PANEL was pretty dark. I do t understand why people complained about one stupid electrocution scene.
I felt the same things as everyone during this, but anyone else notice how Filoni is trying to help connect the Disney content (The Last Jedi, Rogue One, Solo, etc.) to the prequel era? A complaint a lot of people have is that Disney ignores the prequel era, but I love that Dave is helping to make these connections!
How about how right before Order 66 activated, we hear the same haunting music from ROTS where Anakin is in the council room and Padmé is at her home right before Anakin takes off to try and stop Mace from killing Palpatine??? AND THEN WE HEAR THAT WHOLE EXCHANGE IN THE FORCE?! Absolutely brilliant!
Ahsoka claimed to be just a citizen herself. Windu has no reason to tell her anything. As far as he is aware, she knows nothing. She refuses to tell them the info anyway (not because Mace called her a citizen too). Both sides have poor communication and both have their reasons for not saying things: Mace has no reason to do so and Ahsoka doesn't want to put the fate of the order before Anakin's.
Oh man, this episode is quite the Game Changer and a heartbreaking episode. The battle of Mandalore is over but Order 66 has begun on Ahsoka's perspective with her Clone Commanders turning on her we're in the Endgame now. Ahsoka and Maul is quite the unlikely teamup I never expected of course she did had an unlikely Teamup with Ventress in "To Catch a Jedi". Even her interactions with R7 and the other droids was cute especially when they help out on removing Rex's chip. Looking forward to this Monday's Series Finale.
I don't agree. I think he epitomized everything that was wrong with the Jedi Order during the this period, everything that allowed Palpatine to secretly gain the upperhand: rigidity and hypocrisy, especially in how he treated Anakin in the show and in the movies, as if Anakin was somehow unworthy of being there. Mace held Anakin to an impossibly high standard no Jedi could live up to. Then turning around and not living up to those ideals himself at a critical moment when he straight up planned to murder Palpatine rather than bring him to trial and expose him. He even says the same words to Anakin that Palpatine did when the Chancellor told Anakin to kill Dooku: "He's too dangerous to be kept alive." Palpatine seduced Anakin to the Dark Side by showing him how corrupt the modern Jedi Order had become, how they betrayed their own code with flimsy justifications.
I really thought they would pull the "technically she is not a Jedi" thing and save her this way to keep in line with Rexes line that he never betrayed his jedi.
I love how Rex resisted enough to to tell Ahsoka what to do. I also think he missed on purpose that first time to help her. But after that he went under.
This is definitely my least favourite episode of the arc, the first part was great but once ahsoka finds the droids it felt a bit rushed. Its still a brilliant episode though. Also seeing Fives sacrifice not being in vain was so satisfying
dude your one of my new favorite people for acknowledging that Jango is a Mandalorian! Jango is no different from Din from the Mandolorian, they are both Foundlings
Rex didn't betray his Jedi because she doesn't recognise herself as a Jedi, and the episode tries to stress that with the conversation between Ahsoka and the council members.
It's a good point and I'd like to swing it back with two points. 1) In their eyes Ahsoka was a key ally to the Jedi so she had committed treason by helping them capture Maul. She was not a recognised Jedi. 2) If you're trying to argue that she is a Jedi then you're saying that Maul is also then a Jedi because they actively tried to kill him too. He is not a Jedi but also an enemy to The Republic.
This episode, literally (Forgive me for the pun) shattered my heart in the exact same pieces from the amount of blaster fire shot by the clones against Ahsoka and Maul. I honestly expected the reference to Fives and his inhibitor chip investigation, but just seeing Rex fighting in both warning Ahsoka and dutifully obeying Order 66 for his programming but painfully against his will was in all words, painstakingly hurtful. For the captain turned commander of the 501st and all of the clones under him who swore loyalty to both Anakin and especially Ahsoka, he sort of had a hunch of what was to come since Umbara, Kamino and Mandalore. What and who were to be executed.
