Well, we saved the weirdest for last. One thing that I learned during two weeks deep in the Amazon rainforest is that the Amazon is filled with frogs, and some of those frogs are stranger than any frogs I had ever seen before. I'm so glad that I get to share these insane amphibians with you!

From an ecological perspective, it is notable that the wide variety in frogs and lizards suggests that there are many distinct niches, which of course is exactly what is to be expected in tropical rainforests. The great variety of life in Ecuador and Peru dwarfs anything that we're accustomed to seeing in the United States.

It may not be the weirdest but the black rainforest frog will forever be my spirit animal. The weirdest I've heard about before this video is the Indian purple frog, which not only burrows like some others but also feeds underground, and only comes out for 2 weeks during monsoon season for mating.

Thanks for telling us how the different parts of the body feel/what texture they have, not everyone describes these traits! I’m a frog lover but especially a toad enthusiast. Those crested toads are gorgeous. The casque-headed tree frogs are beautiful but I really wish those crested toads had a robust captive breeding population and sustainable export policy because having one in a toad collection would be stellar.

The first casque-headed tree frog reminded me of Stealth Plane designs. The appearance is like leaf litter, which hides from visual hunters, but the sharp edges like Stealth may help protect against sonar hunters. I have to assume there are sonar hunters that go after things other than flying creatures because - the Amazon has everything! Also it was suggested that the crested tree frogs MAY form a grouping of species. But isn't it also possible that they are one highly variable species?

I think the crested forest toad you showed with the "leaf" pattern ears could also be mimicking a snake with vertical pupils. I think those frogs tend to be active during the day, so at night they can find as safe a spot as they can and when they close their eyes, anything that wants to eat a frog is met with what it would see as a snake eye and leave it alone. That's at least what it looks like to me.

The 1st casque-headed tree frog was so unusual, I would love to see a video only about them. But the 2nd casque-headed was so cute with the black eyeliner. Are there many different casque- headed species? Are they all unusual looking. You could do a video on the different ones and compare the unusual things about each one. These are all so cute. I love frogs and toads. Although that peep peep in the photos with the eggs on its back and hatching is a thing of nightmares, not really but pretty creepy looking.

I think Giant Salamanders are the weirdest amphibians. Not only bc of their prehistoric look and size, but also because of their habitat, you'd never think a giant amphibian is lurking in your little creek next to your mountain trail. But also because they are highly vulnerabel species and there are videos of chinese ppl on how to butcher them and cook them.... So all in all a very very weird animal :)
