This is a dam shame. The leaders of Jamaica should have preserved this house. This is the birth place of a prominent person/politician born. I guess grew up there. They don't build houses of this structure/design anymore. This house was well built. Back then. Houses like this one takes years to built. The stone works and the woods they used good quality. Too bad they don't have a map or the blue print of the original structure to see what this house looked like in its glory days. If Mr. Lightbourn. I am not sure of the correct spelling of his last name. But. If he has any offspring. They should have restored this house. These older homes had coffered ceilings, wainscoting and cathedral ceilings. Some people that built their house from scratch. Use some of the materials from older homes/houses. From window frames, doors, old hardwood floors, bricks, wood, old kitchen cabinets and light fixtures. Because of the quality and the design. I just started watching your RU-vid blog like a week ago. And for an older adult. I am hooked😁. It brought me so much joy. And some tears too. But, mostly joy and a sense of pride. I left Jamaica 48 years ago. And to be quiet honest. I didn't know three quarter of its history. I am so proud to be a Jamaican. The views are breathtaking. I didn't know you have so many nice high mountains, springs and rivers in the country of my birth. I only knew of the famous Blue Mountain Peak/peeks? Thank you Elite Jamaica. A big shout out to Alex and his team. Excellent job guys. I have to give some kind of contribution. I want this program to continue. I will get in touch with you Alex when I am ready. A big thank you to all that are involved. Blessings and guidance always. 🙏🙏🙏. Please stay safe. 😷😷😷🤗🤗🤗👏👊👊👍

With very little resources, awareness can help to better preserve our past. There are weaknesses in our education curriculum, civic mindset, and so much more. You are definitely shining a light and having us ask questions. Keep exploring and be safe. I'm from St. Thomas as well, now living in Italy where culture is a billion dollar industry.

i love what u r doing Alexx. These great houses and work houses are where our ancestors lived and died they are sacred. I would love to see you doing something as a sign of respect on behalf of us all before entering. I am reading Archibald Monteith narratives an overseer from England who came to Jamaica to work. My stomach got sick to see the level of violence and atrocities that our fore parents went thru. Arms were chopped off other slaves were forced to defecate on others as a sign of punishment this was done in their mouths. Please down load this book from Amazon you can use kindle only 9.99. Our elders even the ones around now should be respected to the highest level and yet you have people turning guns on them. Some of these young people need to sit down and learn what our people went through for them to enjoy freedom. I have my Paul Bogle shirt Xmas 1831 and I smile every time i put it on. That is what kicked IT off he and many others who died from the struggle should be revered. All these Great Houses went up in flames. I really and truly honour them for their bravery they gave their life for us.

History like this should be taught in the schools and teachers take their students on tour of these mansions. what is the education minister of Jamaica doing and even the government of Jamaica? In miserable Slavery - that is the book Thomas Thistlewood Jamaica 1750 86. This overseer met Captain Cudjoe on the Styx bridge in Westmoreland. i cant remember any book which mentions sightings of Cudjoe the man is real. He was armed of course with a sword and a gun no shoes as expected imagine walking for miles thru macka, stone etc. He use to go to the plantations and they would give him food and rum. He had more than one wife he had kids he was actually with one of his son that day and one of his wife and a few of his men. Alexx can we see this bridge i believe a plaque should be placed there. The maroons caught and handed over Bogle and I cant understand why. The maroon thing complicated they were catching their brothers and sis and taking them in,

It makes a difference having the site cleared of overgrown trees and shrubs. You can see the actual size of the and layout of the buildings. It would be great if the government could restore and have tourists visit for a fee, that could be used towards the upkeep of the houses.

Rather than leaving these places derelict the government should renovate these places and open them up as tourist attractions using the proceeds to support poor Jamaicans or to renovate to provide accommodation for poor Jamaicans. It could be renovated into a hotel or B&B accommodation, etc with the proceeds always providing help and support to the poorest in the community. The cost for doing up these places all over Jamaica should come from the repatriation fund from Europe and America.
