I was cynical too, I thought oh that guitars not his style and he’s only bought it because he’s mega rich but after watching this I know I was so wrong.
It amazes me how well Gibson as well as Leo Fender hit it out of the park from the start that still sets the standards for all basses and guitars to this day. Genius. Especially if you think from the perspective of the mid 1950’s and how revolutionary they were. 🤯
Peter Green was the reason I first picked up a Guitar. I'm glad Greeny is in the hands of someone who takes it out and plays it,rather than it gathering dust behind glass.
I’ve only been a casual fan of Metallica. But Kirk Hammett is the real deal. I love his passion. His words have meaning. When he talks there is much wisdom.
I'm 59 I've been playing guitar since about 1980. I found a Les Paul that's a reissue of that Unicorn Cherry red one he has. It's had a headstock repair. It came back sounding better than ever.
WOWZER! KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK! Best ever "Collection" series I've ever seen! Kirk's youthful enthusiasm is contagious! FAIR WARNING: The bar has been raised. 😎
While I am pinning for an episode with the Reverend Billy Gibbons, the best episodes of The Collection were the early ones with ‘lesser’ known musicians vs the superstars of the most recent ones. Still great work.
Bay Area dude makes good! Kirk... so happy for you. You're living your dream and dude... your collection! Love that you feel everyone should play Greeny. It was great seeing you at Michael's show at the Rockbar in SJ. All timer! Mark... thanks for connecting us freaks with our heroes. Well done team!!!
So much to love about this. Incredible to see how excited he is to own and play all those guitars. Amazing how he doesn't get into "cork sniffing" territory at all - no snobbery and happy to admit that some of what he likes about the tone differences might be all in his head or his imagination. And his collection itself... Isn't this a step up from every other incredible collection you've showcased?
WOW, what a day! Frusciante Custom Shop Strat finally drops, A Jack White rig rundown on Premier guitar AND now Kirk Hammett's collection AND oh yeah IT's FREAKIN Halloween too! Happy Halloween to us guitar nerds eh? thank you
Fitting, watching this after I just secured a ESP LTD KH V black sparkle in the mail yesterday 🎉🎉 this is the guy that inspired me to get into playing guitar many years ago. It’s a dream to play and the craftsmanship is impeccable.
Great Episode. I love how Kirk mentioned that he wanted a Black burst Les Paul, and knowing that he now owns one (bought from Carters if I'm not mistaken) is an awesome full circle.
Interesting video. It was nice to see Kirk in that Adams family room and all those guitars. Thanks for the video Kirk Hammett, as always you were humble and great. We love you.👍
Funny, Kirk hesitantly told me no when I asked I could play Greeny, said “…nno…she’s all secure right now” when I asked him at our meet & greet in Chicago. 😂 which I also got to meet Rob & I must say of all the meet & greets I’ve done meeting Kirk & Rob was the absolute best. We got to sit around & talk with them for a good 35-40min.
You really asked him to play Greeny? Why would you even do that? Lol Did you actually expect him to say YES? “Sure, random guy from a meet and greet, I totally don’t mind if you manhandle this priceless and irreplaceable piece of music history.” The absolute audacity. 😂
@ lol, I 100% asked him that. If you watch this video you’ll get why. No, I did not expect him to say yes I said it more to be funny because he’s said the same thing about letting “anyone” play it since he bought it. But it does make me wonder had Greeny been readily available if he would have said yes.
I’ve been waiting for this forever my favourite band Thank you so much for letting Kirk show us his collection And my biggest influence on me playing guitar
Really nice episode! Only caveat: Most of his career Kirk played ESP KH-2 in many variants, probably the Mummy being the most famous. Flying V and Greeny are the only 2 notable Gibsons in his career. This might change going forward though.
Fantastic episode. Interesting to see "Kirk the Collector". I truly feel that there could be a second episode where the focus goes a little more to all his live guitars we relate to so much. I do understand that Gibson is not eager to promote ESP too much, but ever since the early 90's you can't think them away from Metallica. Curious If you guys would ever do James's collection since he already made his book "Messengers". But hey, all the thoughts aside: it still made for a splendid two hours of good guitartalk with a perfect host and artist! Thank you guys! ;-) greetings from Belgium.
AMAZING video! Please, please, PLEEEEASE, do one with James. I know he did a similar thing in his book, but it'd be amazing to see him talking about them.
I feel the same way about my Gibsons. They want to be played. When kids come up after a show and tell me they’ve never played a gibson. I let them try it on. And turn them up thru my rig.
I can’t explain it, but whatever Kirk says seems made up to me. Super detailed stories back from 50 years ago just do not convince me at all. I’m here for the guitars though and it’s a delight, thanks Gibson! ❤️
Love the Schenker V paintjob, although I kind of wish he had kept the medallion in red. But that really is an iconic guitar. I see Michael is back playing Gibsons, is he getting a sig V? Maybe at different price points?
