The Collector⎮Miraculous Ladybug Season 2 Retrospective Review 

I figured out Gabe was Hawkmoth during Simon Says and Origins but my sister refused to believe me. I popped off so hard when this came out and I rubbed it in her face. The fact this man actually came up with a good plan to get the heroes off his trail is genuinely surprising considering how much of a smooth brain he is but he gets credit for this it was well played

When they did the whole "oh look Gabriel is hawkmoth" I was like ".......wait that's a reveal?"

I LOVED this episode. Its probably my favorite in the entire show. I just really like Gabriel plan in this episode. Its actualy really clever and makes him a worthy villain who seems always a step ahead of the heroes.

Fun fact: “fou” (pronounced foo) means crazy in French. Now, I’m not saying there’s a connection but he did stalk a teenage girl and then somehow sneak into one of the most secure houses in Paris. Just food for thought

Season 2 is my FAVORITE!! Cattastic Kitty "Adrien Agreste" Cat Noir's abilities so Miraculously! The starting paths to Adrigami and Lukanette!! The akumas were very interesting and so stylish. Now the Collector, seriously Gabe really thought this one out. Cattastic Kitty's emotions insane here as well. LOVE Kagami standing up to Collector thinking Adrien is in danger. The season where Chloe became more understandable. SIKE, says Astruc, A LITERAL CHILD IS IREDEEMABLE COMPARED TO ACTUAL GROWN FILTH. *edit* Disclaimer, I don't like Chloe, she's fucking awful, don't get me wrong, but I understand that it's her father's fault mostly.

Okay. So fun fact. I was a bit late to watching season 1 of miraculous. But thankfully since I was a bit late. All the episodes were already out. So I caught up a month back in September of 2017. A month before Season 2 began aka October 2017. And seeing Gabriel revealed to be Hawkmoth back then. The fear I felt. The anger I felt. The worry I felt. Also ladybug in this episode actually was really mature? I can’t lie. She saw Cat Noir was upset. And tried to console him. She wasn’t rude or abusive to him like in later episodes or seasons. I’m impressed. Like actually impressed. Also love how Plagg was like to Adrien. May I remind you you’re grounded? Hmm. Taking on an older brother figure role there Plagg.

COME ON, DUDE!😡😡😡 But I've realized that he was right about one thing, Fu was NOT good at his job! 😂😂😂 (But I've also just realized that Su-Han's a hypocrite. So yeah!)😅

Honestly if gab gets to be taken down in season 2 instead of 5 then this show would have had better critics and reviews and having the 3 heroes be chosen by marinette and adrien then we could have had Natalie as the villain in season 3

I think it's funny that some people here are surprised that some people didn't think Gabriel was Hawkmoth. Yes, they had the same voice actor and shadow outline in season 1, but there's some inconsistencies and plot holes in the show that made them question it. The fact Hawkmoth's lair appears near the end of Paris shown by the Eiffel tower in the distance throughout season 1 when Gabriel's mansion is close to the tower, he only had seconds to transform into Hawkmoth and run in/out of his lair in Simon Says during Simon Says' attack on Gabriel's mansion, Hawkmoth wanting to rule the world throughout season 1 with only origins showing otherwise until midway through season 2, and how did Gabriel build an entire lair under his mansion without anyone being aware of it? These truly made it hard to see Gabriel as Hawkmoth, cause the writers did such a terrible job making Hawkmoth a consistent villain and making it make sense. The Theorizer and other people made videos on these points, bringing up how they didn't make much sense and the writers most likely didn't think these things through. It's why the Eiffel tower just disappears from the city view of Hawkmoth's lair by season 2.

Actually, I always knew that Gabriel was Hawkmoth. Like, ever since Origins (since that was the first episode that I watched), I knew his identity, since I thought they did that on purpose to make it obvious, and was shocked when The Fandom *didn't* know and had theories about it. Like, what??? I thought it was obvious!

In my opinion, Season 2 was the best season because I thought the story, the lore, and the characters were actually pretty good and entertaining. Plus, I thought the second season was heading to an interesting direction with the 5 core characters (Marinette, Adrian, Chloé, Alya, and Nino).

Tbh I think every kid pieced together that Gabe was Hawkmoth since Simon Says. It was so obvious in that episode.

2:14 Frankly, and looking back at these episodes in retrospect, I always had the impression that Master Fu always manipulated Marinette to be his successor as Guardian: A girl always obedient to adults and never questioning their absurd rules, with a naive black and white vision of life. Marinette only has respect/love for Master Fu because he always told her how special she is and that she is the best Ladybug ever. Not like Rupert Giles or Zordon who actually had a paternal bond with the heroes.

The infamous Collector episode, which was a decent episode in general, but definitely started Master Fu's character destruction as he feels like a forced subversion of the mentor trope. That's not getting into how it pushed a chunk of the fandom out, cause people wouldn't stop attacking them over Hawkmoth's reveal. I wonder how those same attackers feel about the canon now, probably either mixed or hate it.

Gabe just casually destroying everything in his room and then putting his hands together behind his back like everything's normal cracked me up. Almost as iconic as when he turned into a butterfly😂

This episode drove me INSANE. They were _so close_ to figuring it out, but failed because of their own stupidity and incompetence... You mean to tell me that Master Fu didn't even realize that the Moth Miraculous holder could use their power on themselves? They just dismiss the possibility instantly despite how blatantly obvious it is that Gabriel is Hawkmoth. They just kinda forget about the whole book thing, because nah that wasn't suspicious at all...

Seeing gabe not being a smooth brain is like seeing a dog riding a unicycle it just feels unatural 😂

It is said that there are 7 unforgiveable plot holes. 8:00 is an example of #1 (the obvious solution that's ignored).

Master Fu is a pretty shi person in my opinion, if those people weren’t on their phones that day I bet one of them would’ve helped him. I honestly kind of agree with the other guardian when he said master fu is a bad guardian & that children shouldn’t have miraculouses, how does he know that Marinette is genuinely kind? Just because she helped him get out of the road it doesn’t mean she deserves to get superpowers. Like what if Lila helped him up? She could’ve easily done that if she was there then she could’ve lied to Fu in some way. I also think he’s bad because he literally made a CHILD the next guardian. Why would he do that when him himself knows how difficult being a guardian is? I don’t get why you’d give such a responsibility to a child. I think it would’ve been better if she was older like 16 and it would’ve been better if Fu was her uncle.

I think it would've been a fun twist if Gabe HADN'T been Hawkmoth. Perhaps he could've had a brother who was also in love with Emily. It would even explain Gabe's behavior in season one. He was throwing himself into his work to cope with his loss and keeping his son close to avoid another loss. But we got the should've been obvious twist that Nathalie was in on his identity. Oh well, c'est la vie.

2:12 Master Fu is flawed, but if he deciphered every single page in the spellbook before Marinette gave him back the spellbook, some of Ladybug and Cat Noir's battles would have been shown to be too easy and there would've been a lack of struggle in the episode Syren where he was trying to figure out the ingredients for the water potion. Also, it's the creator's fault for having only three power ups be shown so far.

One thing I find interesting about Gabe is he seems to put a lot more effort into hiding his own identity than trying to figure out his opponents. Especially after the season 3 finale where he discovers the identies of the other miraculous holders, you'd think he'd piece together that most of them had a connection to the same school/class and then from there narrow down the possible ladybug and cat holders. Kim, Max, Alya, Nino, Chloe are all students at Francois Dupont and in Bustier's class. Luka and Kagami aren't but Luka's sister is and Kagami takes fencing at that school. He should also be aware that Ladybug and Cat Noir show up faster when he akumatizes someone at the school.

5:19 Whenever the kwamis had a holder, as shown in 'Sandboy', they'd sometimes carry objects into the Miracle Box when visiting their 'brothers' and 'sisters', i.e. the inactive kwamis. So, by this knowledge, he probably stored that cheese in the Miracle Box and told the kwamis not to eat. Good idea on their part. Side note: That's just gross.

I dunno why, but if they wrote this episode a little better, this could've been a pretty cool start for the finale of the Hawk Moth ark.

honestly i like this episode alot. surprised you didn't bring up how they mentioned how they don't know if there would be side effects from akumatizing yourselfcuz honestly when your akumatized your running on dream logic you know? everyone tends to make dumb descions while under the power even if they THINK they are thinking clearly so its impressive gabe was able to fight so well...but it also gave me my theory that gabe's weird mood swings and smoothbrainess growing through the season was a side effect from using his miraculous like this so often. I actuallu thought gabe's apology to adrien was REALLY well done and sounded genuinely sincere compared to other seasons which I thought was neat...your right that gabe technially was in the right to punish adrien cuz adrien did steal and lose the book from adrien's safe.....but it does also mean gabe apologizing when he didn;t really need to hits harder for me...and stands out as well when we see instead of lashing out at marinette like we'd assume she would..he was actually very understanding....thought she was brave to come forward despite everything having gone to shit and her thinking she'd be in troubke....which actually made gabe being understanding and NOT shouting at her and being understanding stand out WAY more when we are used to him being a jerk. him even answering some of her qestions about the book and him finding a reason to admire mari a bit and her being a friend and admiror of adrien which would explain why mari would think she could reason with him later...and does make a interesting parallel in the final battle as she decided to hide what gabe did from adrien just as gabe decided to hide what mari did from adrien when she asked him to not tell him before...it felt lie we got a hint at the REAL nice gabe deep down which makes me think of betterfly even if he tends to be drowned out by the worst of gabe and my theory of side effects from his misuse like acting more like a akumatized victim with the mood swings and weird logic as the show went on. I mean the dude is already reckless with himself...almost jumped off a roof in simon says. and I like how adrien did freak out..but honestly I thought it was interesting despite his stress that adrien didn't think it was THAT wild of a motive for his dad which is a reminder that adrien wasn't dense about his dad having issues. though i keep thinking about did fu know the book was connected to adrien deep down or something cuz imagine if lb had mentioned the book and it got chat saying that book was his or something? i mean adrien knows his dad had a book so HIM connecting the dots possible would make sense as well. honestly I COMPLETELY forgot about fu just admitting how he fucked up to mari in the epsiode...I only remember that aspect being revealed more in feast so yeah...I agree that it doesn't exactly feel reassuring huh. though your right mari saving fu and adrien helping him up seem simple..I actually think their reactiosn after also speaks volumes...marinette driopped all her cookies and instead of getting mad at the old man she tried to be positive to make sure he didn't feel bad. while yes adrien just helped him up...adrien also helped fu despite it getting in the way of him running from nathalie and gorilla. he got caught due to the detore to help fu up when he was THIS close to making it inside the school. willing to help fu despite the detriminet to himself when anyone in that circumstance might have chosen what was good for THEM over just being nice to a old man.

We don't want Gabriel to be good at being evil forever cause it hurts.

These are bad theories btw 1: Miraculous is just messing with us 2: miraculous doesnt know what theyre doing 3: (my real-ish theory) the timelines are messed up on purpose and will later be revealed, and/or all the bunix (and sass situations) messed up their timeline in some way. 😅😂😂 Im really hoping they have agood excuse for these bad timelines lol.

I don't understand how the people in this show are so incompetent. The police should have an open investigation into a terrorist, but they don't. Hawk Moth should be easy to identify. Older man, possibly latest 40s to early 50s, prefers to stay in his house. Why the police have not suspected Gabriel I will never get over.
