After seeing Taraji in Hidden Figures I’ll never question her acting and the ability to adapt. That scene with the bathroom and coffee pot had me floored.
i was surprised about halle's acting in this trailer, she really delivered. we didn't have any material of her dramatic side in acting yet, but she is proving herself. with the little mermaid coming out, she bagged 2 big movies and it's like her first day on the job in the big screen yall. she will be huge. i can't wait to see what the future brings for her. with that voice, i hope she continues to do musicals.
The only thing I disagree with you about as Taraji and Shug, Shug Avery in the original movie wasn't young or particularly sexy and she did a fantastic job, so I think Taraji will knock it out the park
I saw the Broadway musical with LACHANCE ten days after it opened on Broadway, met BRENDA RUSSELL in the lobby! I’m tooo excited to see this movie musical. Not interested in it competing with the original movie it stands on its own merit!
I'm so excited to find a reaction from someone who knows the musical! Most of the other videos haven't watched the first movie or even knew of the existence of the book! I know I'll be bringing tissues.
I wasn't able to see it on Broadway when Fantasia played Celie, so Im happy she is reprising her role on film. And Danielle Brooks was an excellent Sophie on Broadway for the revival.
Yes! So glad we get to see Tasia in this! I think this is going to get the same excitement as The Little Mermaid. I know so many people who are already for this.
1:30 right? Have been hating Danny Glover for over 30 years. I was just starting to ease up. Now I gotta hate a whole other fabulous actor. 🤦🏾♀️ I’m tired. 😂🤣 Also, I’m super excited to see this movie. The trailer is fabulous. I think I’m most looking forward to Taraji’s performance, because I’m on fence about her as Shug, too. I want to see if she can pull it off. 💜 Side note: I love Danielle Brooks’ little head movement here. 2:47 💜
Sweetheart, if Oprah, Spielberg, and Jones are ex-produces, then you should not be worried nor concerned about casting. Some of the cast members had to audition. There is no doubt that the musical adaptation is going off the chain.
I think you’re absolutely right, I don’t believe it’s a coincidence that the trailer doesn’t show any of the other performances. I find that very odd. If you have no idea about the Broadway show, you watch this thinking this is just a remake of the original movie which it’s not. That’s my biggest issue with this trailer, it’s a little misleading. I also find it a kinda strange for her to be the lead character, you only get very brief glimpses of Fantasia. And where was Lou Gossett Jr? & Ciara? Tamela Mann? They’re all in the film too… btw, I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that Halle Bailey is ALL over the trailer AND they released this the same week as “The Little Mermaid” coming out in theaters. But all that said, I’m looking forward to seeing this. I loved TCP musical. It was the first show I saw on Broadway, and I saw it with Fantasia in the role so I know she’ll be amazing… I cried like a baby for 10 minutes at the end of the show & I remember that performance vividly. I look forward to how she translates that to screen. I’m just concerned, to your point, a) the producers are going to try and make this too close to the 1985 movie (I saw a lot of references to it) & b) less like the stage production, out of fear that some people (Black people) will be turned off by this being a musical and not want to see it. They should trust the audience more, IMO. But I guess we’ll have to wait and see as it gets closer to the release, how they promote it and what future trailers/commercial spots look like! (Sorry to ramble on, clearly I had thoughts… 💁🏿)
Yes. I have to watch the trailer more, but I've already seen people say that this is a remake of the 1985 film because nothing here says musical . Make me wonder how they'll react once we get a more musical trailer
It’s only the first trailer! There will be more or another one! You know they can’t show to much of the movie in the trailer! If youve heard are seen the Broadway version., you’d see and know that it will be amazing!
@Tim Leggett No doubt this is going to be amazing and they are smart to somewhat disguise the musical elements until there's strong by in because some folks staunchly hate musicals. Not me. I'll watch almost anything with singing. The play was gorgeous, even the touring version 😍
I haven't read the book in nearly 20 years so I may have blocked it out. But you're right that she was older than Celie because she already had children.
