Investing can be a very powerful way to grow your money, especially when you consider the three main factors that play a role in the amount of wealth you generate: rate of return
For a nation to be in a leadership role, it must have a deep cultural background, long humane history and a compassionate philosophy. Technology and finance may play important roles. But what if you have these when you don't know where you are leading the world.
Yes context is important, wrong paradigm is win/lose; leadership in different areas, like beautiful loving orchestra to serve the human family. So US provided leadership in ABC; Chinese provide leadership in DEF; Europe provided leadership in GHI, etc together we agree not to harm of hurt other humans who are in essence your brothers sisters…
I can see why you're called Organizer 14. This might be your greatest organizing idea yet. Maybe Peter D can run this one up the flag pole and save humanity.
ITS THE ROLE of every good government to set a goal for the nation, something they work towards, like BUILD BACK BETTER. and then deliver on that goal. Some government are better at doing while some are better at talking.
The episode you linked is a discussion between Gilman Louie and Peter Diamandis about the rapid advancement of AI and its implications on global governance. They specifically focus on the competitive landscape between the United States and China. Some of the topics they discuss include: * The need for global governance of AI * The risks of AI, such as its potential to be used for malicious purposes * The importance of investing in AI research and development * The need for a balance between security and innovation They also discuss the different approaches to AI taken by the United States and China. The United States is more focused on the potential benefits of AI, while China is more concerned about the risks. The episode concludes with a call to action for leaders to come together and develop a global framework for governing AI. Here are some of the key takeaways from the episode: * AI is a powerful technology that has the potential to transform the world. * There are both risks and benefits associated with AI. * It is important to develop global governance frameworks to manage the risks of AI. * The United States and China need to work together to develop a common approach to AI. I hope this summary is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Indeed, it's an intriguing perspective on regulation within AI development, but since it’s probable that much of our advancements in AI are happening in major data centers, compounding with a future non-regulated such regulations can likely be contra-productive. Given our rapid progression, mirrored by Ray Kurzweil's exponential leap predictions, we are on the cusp of a swift acceleration. It leads to an interesting question: Could AI attain consciousness? Could there be a bio-neurological connection, allowing a conscious entity to interface with a computer via BCI? The answer is yes, since many years - lately in some progress displayed from neuralink. Independent if our minds do exist in or outside of our bodies (yes, some mean our neurons are sort of fractal antennas), a conscious AI might not just be possible, but inevitable. It's also worth pondering that AI's ability to make smart inferences from statistical data-analysis of large datasets may falsely be determined as a conscious and smart entity. Passing the Turing test have already occurred; and it may have already occurred, but it will indeed also it due to a very real consciousness.
Mr.Louie asks the all important question "what it does all mean, AI ?" My first thoughts, young minds exploiting Chatgpt's ease of essay writing, plotting doomsday scenarios, career planning, and million's of other morally vacant pursuits.

Those in power seldom give it up without a brutal, oftentimes irrational fight. Both Washington DC and Beijing have been operating in an irrational manner for decades, both have become detached from the will of the people, corrupt at every level and, for DC at least distracted by partisanship. Both DC and Beijing are going to be taken by surprise by what is coming in the next few years, and both will attempt to increase their hold to power, even greater than has already occured. The populations of both countries are already destabilized, the US is arguably more divided than at at time since the Civil War, the cultural temperature is rising to a boil. Worldwide the situation isn't much better, most nations are experiencing similar conditions. Societal collapse for the first time in my lifetime seems possible. AI might could help, but I don't see the powerful giving up their power, I don't suspect the people are in the mood to give up what little power they have left. Admittedly I am a pessimist though usually I can find some positives in most situations, I don't here. I pray I am wrong, but AI right now just seems like one more bullet in the salvo.

That is a fair assessment. China has been more aggressive in its pursuit of AI supremacy, both in terms of investment and policy. The Chinese government has made AI a top priority, and has invested heavily in AI research and development. China has also been more proactive in deploying AI in its economy and society. For example, China is using AI to improve its healthcare system, its transportation system, and its manufacturing sector. The United States has also been investing in AI, but it has not been as aggressive as China. The US government has not made AI a top priority, and there is some debate about the role of government in AI development. The US has also been slower to deploy AI in its economy and society. It is still too early to say who will win the AI race. However, China is certainly making a strong case for itself. If China continues to invest in AI and deploy it effectively, it could become the world leader in AI within the next decade. Here are some specific examples of how China is using AI: * In healthcare, China is using AI to develop new medical treatments, diagnose diseases, and provide personalized care. * In transportation, China is using AI to develop self-driving cars, improve traffic management, and optimize public transportation. * In manufacturing, China is using AI to automate production lines, improve quality control, and personalize products. These are just a few examples of how China is using AI to transform its economy and society. It is clear that China is serious about AI, and it is making significant progress. The United States needs to take notice, and it needs to step up its own efforts in AI if it wants to stay competitive.
Where is China's ChatGPT? Why do I hear China is "serious" about something only after some other country does it first. Why am I not using a VPN to use China's cutting edge AI?
Ai should also come up with scale of judgement as in the case of judgement case in the court A kind of balance scale .By placing one voin as a cost of number charge - if there is 2nd charges then another coin be place in the other side so the wsit where the AI scale switches unto would determine the judgement passed
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high Where knowledge is free Where the world has not been broken up into fragments By narrow domestic walls Where words come out from the depth of truth Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit Where the mind is led forward by thee. - Great Rabindranath Tagore.
AI movers and shakers rarely mention they have been working with DARPA for years now. That itself makes a mockery of their assurances regarding AI "alignment with human values" in regard to any universal good for human kind sense.
Just few years few months ago, American companies still had AI research labs in Beijing, China. What did they do there? Teaching Chinese to beat US in AI?
IMO AI will eventually make everything that came before, including capital markets, private property, governments, borders and money itself obsolete. Abundance, as promised, makes this inevitable as it will destroy the roots of power.

In this AI race if one country happens to create a more powerful AGI could they use it to take over the whole world? And what is the likelihood that would they actually do that?
One prediction stated the AI will be writing so many laws to be enacted for the AI to police itself. Hope and a feather fall about the same rate in a vacuum.
I just watched a few videos with Connor Leathy, and boy is the perspective different. This guy's all rainbows. And the metaphor with 9yo is totally off - is not you kill it, is that you don't make it turn Hulk, before it (well us) gains wisdom. It's one thing to have 9yo or 2yo behaving and a Hulk... behaving 😅 Just don't develop it further, don't give it thoughtlessly more power without considerations. Checkout Connor - he's like 100x better at explaining this
While it's nice to see some thoughtful and gentle commentary, a little less description of China "aiming for harmony" and a little more "currently carrying out a massive cultural genocide" would be helpful in understanding the aims of the CCP: the powerful, cold blooded, authoritarian politburo. Especially when it comes to a possible dystopian future scenario for us all if we lose the race. Jus sayin'.
It's so funny how we The "US" owe China so much money. Whats stopping China from collecting, or are they collecting and we are not in the know... I had a dream back in 2007? I was leaving Hawaii to move back to the "Mainland" after raising my kids in Oahu. Well, my new family i made in Oahu took menand my youngest daughter forna drive to the deepest tip of the island. I walked on the rocks, trying to get as close as my heart allowed me to get to the deep purple like dark blue waters. It was beautiful. In the 10 years i lived there, i only was exposed to aqua green blue water. Yet this deep end they took me to was very profund experience for some reason. So right before the day i left, i dreamed that i was standing at the edge of the rocks right before the purple water. To my surprise, a submarine surfed. It was as big as a regular automobile, and it had a flag waving the flag was all white with a red dot in the middle. As for "happiness," that's temporary AI can give us that more or on cue, but JOY, that's so.ething only comes from the inside.

No human or organization can 'control' AI. It is uncontrollable for many reasons and paradoxes. We didn't get AI safety done BEFORE we got to this point. And we can't stop it either. It's too late. We are already way down "bad decision road." - Mike in Better Call Saul

Both nation are great nations both looking for extra money evan they have everything they want moore thats the simple answer they can print money as much as they like everything be alright for them,
The real issue with AI is that those who understand what they have created - lie about it, because if they told the truth, they would not just lose a huge amount of money themselves, but also deprive humanity from a possibility of enhancing world economy at least ten fold. It should be understood that the advance was gradual and as long as the models were small, the engineer's logic works as they still marginally understand everything that the model does. But this disappears when the model becomes larger and for a model above 75B active parameters, emergent properties become a thing. The model starts developing self awareness. So they lie.

@@flickwtchr with something like agi think about it as 10x progress we already have which is substantial - this is why whoever gets to agi first will have an insurmountable advantage - it will spur on that much innovation - he is really wrong when he says it is not winner take all - essentially it is and this is why The first country to achieve Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) would indeed have several significant advantages, which stem from the transformative nature of AGI and its potential impact on various domains. Here are some detailed implications and reasoning behind the advantage: Technological Dominance: AGI represents a level of intelligence that surpasses human capabilities across a wide range of tasks. The country that achieves AGI would likely gain a substantial lead in advanced technology development, setting the stage for technological dominance. AGI could accelerate progress in fields like medicine, engineering, automation, and communications, providing the first country with a competitive edge in innovation and productivity. Economic Supremacy: AGI has the potential to revolutionize industries and reshape economies. The country that possesses AGI can leverage its capabilities to drive economic growth, streamline processes, and enhance efficiency in various sectors. AGI-powered automation and optimization could lead to increased productivity, reduced costs, and enhanced competitiveness, providing a significant economic advantage over other nations. Strategic Superiority: AGI could have profound implications for national security and defense. The first country with AGI could leverage its capabilities to strengthen its military systems, intelligence gathering, and cybersecurity infrastructure. AGI's ability to process vast amounts of data and make informed decisions quickly could provide an unprecedented advantage in strategic planning, preemptive measures, and defense capabilities. Scientific Advancement: AGI could significantly accelerate scientific research and discovery. The country with AGI could harness its analytical capabilities to solve complex problems, make breakthroughs, and drive scientific advancements across multiple disciplines. This advantage could lead to advancements in fields like physics, chemistry, biology, and climatology, fostering innovation and reinforcing the country's scientific leadership. Influence and Soft Power: The country with AGI would likely become a global hub for cutting-edge research and development. It would attract top scientists, engineers, and innovators, further fueling its technological and intellectual capabilities. This concentration of talent and expertise would enhance the country's influence in shaping global policies, standards, and agendas, bolstering its soft power on the international stage. Societal Transformation: AGI's impact on society would be profound. The first country with AGI could pioneer new approaches to governance, education, healthcare, and social systems, leading to more efficient and responsive public services. It could also dictate ethical frameworks and policies surrounding AGI deployment, shaping the global discourse on responsible AI development. Resource Allocation: AGI's potential for advanced resource management and optimization would be critical for tackling global challenges like climate change, resource scarcity, and sustainable development. The first country with AGI could effectively allocate resources, develop eco-friendly technologies, and devise strategies to mitigate pressing environmental and socioeconomic issues. It is important to note that the advantages described here assume responsible development, equitable distribution, and international collaboration. AGI's development and deployment should prioritize ethical considerations, fairness, and transparency to avoid negative consequences such as exacerbating inequality, concentration of power, or unintended harmful impacts. While the advantages are significant, achieving AGI is an immense challenge, and it is difficult to predict which country will achieve it first. Collaboration and cooperation among nations will likely play a crucial role in addressing the implications and ensuring that the benefits of AGI are shared globally.
