Even at that early age, Strong possesed the soul voice of an angel. Why he has failed to explode onto the world of soul music since then is beyond my understanding. This guy should be on our TV's and radios all day and every day...
The woman in the crowd at 2:29 absolutely makes my heart ache. That single clip in this movie absolutely captured the essence of what music is truly about. It speaks to people, and has the power to move people. What a powerful film! Every music lover and musician can do themselves a lot of good by sitting down and watching this.
Agreed. I saw this back when it came out. I like to go see movies by myself and when there's not a lot of people, so matinees are perfect. When I went, there were two other people in the theater, sitting down closer to the screen. It looked like a guy and his girl. When the movie was over and I was walking out, the two people came up behind me. I looked back and it was Nils Lofgren and his girlfriend. I was in good company.
@@SpiritAnimalVSOP no sir. That was GREAT COMPANY. You have my admiration. Have you ever listened to his "Girl in motion" ? Such Beautiful guitar work in that one.
These guys makes me proud to be Irish... A bit like that moment in the Eurovision song contest where the River Dance crew introduced themselves to the world. Small beautiful little country - with a great BIG heart.
Awesome version. This film has a place in my soul that I like to revisit. A lot. Geezer has an inceredible voice and I'm surprised there's not more of him around.
No kidding. One of my favorite movies, ever. Have watched it countless times, and worn out countless audio tapes and VHS. Thank God for CD and DVD. Am old enough to have seen live the old school bands they are replicating; like James Brown and some of the others. This is spot on...
ive loved this film ever since i first saw it years and years ago, loved the music in it too..brilliant singer this bloke is/was, should have had more fame
One of the best voices I've ever heard. It's amazing with all of the garbage out there that passes for talent that this kid didn't become huge. If he would have been discovered American Idol, we'd be reading about him every day... The fantastic little movie that 'The Commitments' reached comparatively few people. It's a huge pity. My jaw still drops knowing that this incredible, heart-wrenching sound came out of such a young person.
Still my favorite part of this movie. Saw it again for the first time since it came out in theatres on Sky, and was instantly transported back. This song in particular still gives me goose bumps. It was definitely the turning point in the movie and it still kicks ass.
I love this film and the soundtrack and to think Andrew Strong was only 16 when he filmed this his voice has the depth and maturity of a performer of 50-60 years old x
Andrew Strong is amazing. The man deserves more recognition than he's gotten. Ive only seen a very few people belt out Soul the way he does. Ive purchased his solo albums, and he can do other genres but I think I will always associate him with his Soul singing. The Commitments was a masterful film, in every respect.
Ich liebe den Film.Ich liebe die Musik.Und ich liebe die Stimme von Andrew Strong.Ich höre die Lieder wieder und wieder. Ich finde das Lied hier so schön,das ich Gänsehaut bekomme. Danke.
I've never seen this movie... it's impossible to find!!! I have got the Cd and I think it's is fantastic!! This music goes directly to the soul!! Yeah!!! :)... Also the Commitments's version of ''Mustang Sally'' is amazing!! Great Sound!
L-R: Maria Doyle, Angeline Ball, Bronagh Gallagher From the movie The Commitments (1991) All the actors in the band sang/played live during shooting of the film. The lead singer, Andrew Strong, was 16 at the time of filming.
@Donegaldan this was one of the greatest movies I've ever seen, every rendition of every song they did was pure magic, and that lead male singer turns out was like 15 or 16 when this film was made, and I can't believe he sounded like that at that age.
2:15 to 2:24 absolute painful perfection..how a 16 year old was able to convey more in those handful of seconds than 90% of todays music only shows his true talent...or how far the industry has allowed itself to fall.
It's hard to believe that Andrew Strong was only like 15 when they filmed this movie. Fantastic voice, and really sang with soul, despite his age. One of my favorite movies. Hell, I might just watch it again tonight!
I think the commitments is one of the best movies i have ever seen, really fab;) Do you have the part where Maria Doyle performes that song by Aretha Franklin atr the end of the movie?? If u do, please uplode it. She sings beautifulle..
