Here is the complete "This Is Shamu" whale show from SeaWorld in Orlando, FL. Filmed with a home video camera on March 20, 1981. See the trainers and even members from the audience interact with the killer whale. Aside from one quick battery change towards the end of the video, this is the complete show.

Awesome Video! Can you believe that the orca's were in the Whale and Dolphin Stadium?

I really love seeing orcas and bottle nose dolphins swim together 💜 I’m glad they made shamu stadium for more room. Heart broken they stopped the breeding program. I see baby a Katina in this. Think of all the lives she has changed in 4 decades. I saw Lolita her tank was half this size. She’s 57, lives with 2 pacific white sided dolphins. I wish she was in a big tank, people say release her to the wild but she only has 30 feet she’s swimming and she’s been swimming in the same 30 feet of pool for over 50 years, when orcas swim anywhere from 50 to 100 miles per day, she would be way too out of shape, the pool is only 20 feet deep so she probably doesn’t hold her breath for a long either and the Miami sun is scorching hot there’s no shade or relief for her. Miami Seaquarium is probably one of the oldest aquariums I’ve ever seen it’s definitely falling apart but I must say they don’t ask her to do much, during the show All she really does is whistle for the audience And get fed plenty of fish. She’s fat and healthy she must have great genetics

+Frida Nyberg I'd love to know where you get your botched info. SeaWorld (your heroes) themselves listed his cause of death as "old age". The average lifespan of a male in wild populations is actually 31 years and females routinely live to be in their forties and beyond (Olesiuk et al 2005) but hey, you tried. I'm glad to see factual info doesn't get you down, as evidenced by your ableist, racist, classist and speciesist tumblr posts. I appreciate the entertainment, good laughs can be hard to come by Frida.

Believe it or not people, but the world has changed a lot since 1981, maybe it's just you who haven't caught up. SeaWorld and other western parks aren't like this anymore, they have changed a lot. The lifespan and survivability of these species are now exceeding that of their wild relatives, and the message has changed. It was thought that Ramu died "of old age" back then, because almost nothing was known of killer whale lifespan back then. And just so you know... the average lifespan of a wild orca is about 14 years. Not 50. 14.
@keallabe-milles3533
@keallabe-milles3533 8 лет назад
30 ans voir 50 ans. Pas 14. 30 à 50.

Frida Nyberg I know this comment is old but I simply cannot scroll past it without educating you first. Just so YOU know, the lifespan of a wild orca is 50-60 years for males and 80-100 years for females. Where on earth did you get 14 years from? That's the age that wild orcas reach sexual maturity and breed for the first time, but it is ABSOLUTELY NOT their lifespan?! Please do not spread false information about a subject you are clearly embarrassing uneducated in.
@caitlynkelly8859
@caitlynkelly8859 6 лет назад
50-60 for males and 80-100 for females? that's like saying the average human lifespan is 110 because we CAN get that old. in reality, females live to be about 45, and males live to be about 30. of course, that's if they get pass their tenth birthday. over 50% of calves die before they are even a year old, and half of those who remain usually vanish or die before the age of ten. THAT'S where the lifespan comes from. because you only take into account the dead orcas. which has brought the average lifespan in the wild right down. of course, if they breach the age of ten, they'll probably live to the ages I stated above. but that's best-case scenario. did you know that 72 Southern Residents have died in just 20 years? since SeaWorld opened, only about half of that number have died. which is NORMAL. when wolves where first being domesticated, they where dropping left and right. whenever an animal is taken into captivity, it takes decades for a system to be worked out that can keep the animals alive.

people are saying how atrocious the tank size is, but let me remind you, many whales around the world (including places like Canada and the US) live in Smaller, Dirtier tanks, with trainers who couldn't give two shits about them. Chimelong Orca Kingdom has *9* Transient orcas that where all taken from the wild for one reason. to breed. the plan is to breed these whales and sell the babies to other parks. because nothing brings in guests like a cute baby whale. knowing China, it won't be long before the calves are separated before they are even weaned. and if one of the whales die? no big deal. they can just boat out and grab another, younger whale that can make them even more babies!
@Begnsteal

… so your exuse is that many others have smaller tanks… so. If I keep my dog in a small kennel. That’s ok bc other people put dogs in even smaller kennels.

Horrific abuse of an intelligent self aware animal. The ace predator of the ocean reduced to this. Seaworld was capturing whales at this time so these whales were removed from their families and put into a bathtub and made to do circus tricks. It’s just shocking that this ‘entertainment “ has been going on for this long. These trainers look and sound absolutely ridiculous The music even more so. My God this is the worst

Yawn!!! Go and look at how orcas treat their own prey -- how they entertain themselves terrorizing and torturing seals, sea lions, dolphins, whales, etc.. There are plenty of videos of this behavior in the wild on this platform. ...Then, come back and guilt-shame humans for behavior that is far more compassionate towards the orcas. Orcas entertain themselves with the lives of intelligent sea mammals; so do we. What we do is hardly "horrific abuse". (And THEY are not the apex predator of the oceans -- WE are the apex predator of the whole solar system!) Or, just look up the story of Keiko -- and what CHOICES he made after being freed (after having been trained to hunt for fish on his own and even demonstrating that he could feed himself on a thousand-mile journey from Iceland to Norway). Keiko was confined at a place with far less resources than Sea World. And, he STILL preferred humans to integrating into a wild orca pod.

@MrJm323
@MrJm323 2 года назад
Blackfish is a crockumentary, which success says more about our decrepit education system than anything else. "Brutal whale capture", eh? Ever see orcas terrorize and torture their prey (seals, sea lions, dolphins, gray whales, etc.) for their own entertainment before devouring them (or not bothering to eat them)? The orca and dolphin capture and exhibition industry seems downright compassionate to orcas compared with the ruthless orca pod psychology towards their own prey. ...And, it seems Keiko, the Free Willy orca, agrees with my assessment of their relative compassion and care for cetaceans -- since after being freed from the waters from where he was captured, he chose ultimately to spend the rest of his days with humans rather than integrating into a pod or just swimming "free" in the wild oceans.
