I've used Auphonic for several years and it has been a game changer for me. Before I had this tool it was actually my wife who pointed out that I sounded quieter than my co host. I heard about Auphonic from Tim Ferriss. I actually haven't had any issues with music fade in and out. I was always concerned it would raise my levels and remove the fade in an out but it doesn't seem to.

Thanks for making this video. Wouldn’t it be better to only run the interview audio through Alphonic then begin your sound editing and adding of intros/sound effects, this way you can still do your fades and such? Do the intros, outros, mashups and jingles still need the Alphonic treatment?

Travis, am I right in thinking that what Auphonic calls multi-track isn''t just regular podcasts where I have an intro track, music, interview, outro as separate tracks? I have them separate for ease of editing-does this mean I need to use the Auphonic multi-track setting? Or can I just drop the whole episode into Auphonic and it'll do the rest without having to deal with multi-track?

@thepodfathershow
@thepodfathershow 3 года назад
It only chops up fades, not the actual intro/outro music itself. If you pre-record with your intro music already embedded into the track at the time of recording, you will be absolutely fine as long as you don't use a fade. Just wait for your music to end completely before you begin speaking and you're golden!

@GuitarUniverse2013
@GuitarUniverse2013 2 года назад
Don’t do a thing to your file. They will just mess it up. Just take your file and upload it. Go to the bottom of the page and click on what you want the program to do for you. Really the only thing you have to choose from is how much you want the audio volume to be changed. Other than that just click and go. If you do a bunch of editing on your own, The program doesn’t really have the capacity to undo your mess and then redo it properly. And respectfully it’s not a reflection on you. You could be the best engineer/mastering guy in the world. The purpose of this software is just to do it easy. It’s really meant for podcasts and the spoken word rather than heavy duty music editing

If you've uploaded a file that is composed of a stereo music file with a narrative audio file, should you still select "Mono" under "Output Files" ??
@Buzzsprout

Unless it matters that the right and left side are different we recommend selecting Mono as your output file. If you have a standard Buzzsprout plan, we encode your files as Mono by default so choosing Mono in Auphonic helps with your overall audio quality

Can you elaborate on your preference for WAV 16-bit instead of WAV 24-bit. Is there an issue with downstream playing of the 24-bit file? I have always preferred the highest bit rate possible. Just wanted to know before I upload my first Episode.

You can absolutely export and upload it as a 24-bit file, it just takes up more space on your computer hard drive and the sound quality difference for the average listener isn't noticeable

Hey guys, I am ready to upload to Auphonic, but, frustratingly, my Apple earphones were rubbing against my beard (!), so I have a slight scratching noise on my audio only. I have cut out a lot of my audio track as you can hear it now and again when the other is talking (it's much quieter now), but with this in mind, should I go for the noise and hum reduction tool along with the other suggested tools, or should I just leave it?
@Buzzsprout

Apply noise and hum reduction and leave the reduction amount on Auto. Listen to the file once it's been processed and if it makes the audio worse then you can reprocess that same file with it turned off without eating into your processing time

You can upload that WAV file directly to Buzzsprout. No need to change it to an MP3

Hello there. So does using Auphonic on a file made with Audacity eliminate the need to run things like the normalization and compressor functions in Audacity? In other words, what functions, if any, should we still use in Audacity to enhance speech if we're also using Auphonic? (I just noticed that Youssef Youssef asked essentially the same question below)

If you run your episodes through Auphonic, most of the mixing and mastering processes become irrelevant. We recommend most podcasters skip mixing and mastering and just use Auphonic (or Magic Mastering if you host your podcast on Buzzsprout) since it'll do the same thing without having to do any work

Auphonic make a difference in diferent languages or is only sound quality??

It just helps with your sound quality, so it doesn't matter which language your podcast is recorded in

I get the impression watching this that audio is uploaded to auphonic after editing, almost as a final stage to master the podcast before making it live. I assume you can also upload raw audio prior to any editing to have cleaner audio to work with?
@Buzzsprout

You can do it either way, but since the raw audio is often quite longer than the edited audio, it's more economical to master the final audio.

@@Buzzsprout Thanks for the response. Thinking about it more afterwards I realised that it was no doubt for economical reasons to run the audio through auphonic at the end, rather than at the start, since the file will be shorter. Running through twice would end up costing even more... I'll do a few experiments and see which works best for me. Thanks again!

Not sure now, as I really need my intro and outro to be faded in and out. But it does sound good

@Buzzsprout, thanks for this great tutorial! Curious - with regards to your last tip on Auphonics not being great at helping with Fade, how do you work around it? (Presumably fade is something common we do for Intro & Outro etc). Thanks!

I put it in wav format, but everything I read says mp3. Will apple and other directories be ok with this.

When you upload your audio file to Buzzsprout, we encode it as an mp3 file. The reason you save it as a wav is to reduce the number of times the file gets compressed and maximize your audio quality

Thx, very clear. After editing my podcast in Garage band, I am looking for a postproduction soft that matches with Catalina/Mac. I can't use Audacity with Catalina OS. What would you recommand?

I am just beginning. I haven't yet put in the music Should I use Alphonic? I am trying to launch my first podcast. I don't want to sound like an amateur.

You want to upload your finished podcast episode (including any music tracks you want to add) to Auphonic as the last step in the process before you upload the episode to your podcast host
