This is on my mental list of most well-made videos of all time. Every time I considered something that would be useful, you showed it was already a feature. Every time I didn't catch something you would either reiterate it or explain where to find it before I could even consider rewinding, and the entire hour and a half felt well spent. Same here but i suffer from adhd the way this presentation was performed is perfect for me it’s like an exam with the perfect tutor if only most of these yt wanna be teachers were this patient instead of trying to be animated people will watch
With all the fuss over A.I. killing everyone, I think using it for retoppo and uv mapping would put it to good use. Retopology and uv mapping take up a lot of time better spent actually creating things.
This im personally fine with although i dont like AI’s current uses in the art space. I would definitely be on board with it if it was something like this

Got to say this is an exceptionally well made video in terms of how its structured and how every section logically flows into the next one Love the plugin as well, this is the closest thing out there to making retopology, dare i say the word, fun.
The strokes tool is a beast. Loved Retopoflow before watching this video and I now all the more from learning how to use the tools to their full potential. The bevel addition to V4 will be awesome addition too. Amazing work Jonathan!!
Fkn amazing I just purchased it and I didn’t observe any videos I went through it head first no homo and I’m doing this but learning these shortcuts blew me away I’m soooooo glad and it feel good to create your own sculpt

man, I stoped learning 3d because of retopology and UV, this is amazing, I am trying 3d again (and learning rigg, modeling and animation) after some years, using blender, and I got this app, a real savior, for time and making less tedious the process... sculpting is amazing, but redo the process square by square was a pain.

It's one of the most incredible Blender addon out there! Do you know what my nightmare is when it comes to retopology? Shirt collars! Is there a quick and smooth way to handle them? (I mean, collar retopo using this add-on.)
Really Nice Add on ! but the main problem is the PERFORMANCE so the add on is not really useable with Middle/heavy mesh !! Do you think that there will be a version with better performance soon ?? It's been a while like that ... and no change yet .... unfortunatly
Hello! I'm having an issue with my symmetry as when I move my mouse closer to the centre line of the mirror for instance say I'm using the poly pen when I move it closer to the centre it pushes my poly away so I can't get it to the centre line is this a bug or have I done something wrong, I re-installed retopology to see if it fixed the issue but it still remains and I've reset the settings on it, if you're able to help that would be appreciated thank you!
I have a very big question with the free version of Retopoflow, since I wanna use it to fix my models but I am afraid of being sued if in the future I want to use that fixed model (like a chair or something) commercially, isn't Retopoflow CC0? And the paid version is more like a good faith donation? I'm missing something. Dont wanna create a scenario with that chair and then getting sued, thx.
I'm unable to make any sort of vert/edge/loop selection and the loops tool isn't working for that matter. Maybe a bug? Currently using 3.3.0 from the free version if anyone else is experiencing the same issues
Unfortunately the more polygons you make, the slower the plugin gets. My source object is fairly simple, decimated, but my retopology is a bit more complex, aiming for ~100k triangles for whole body. I made face and arms, the plugin is now very slow with, while snapping vertices normally in Edit mode has 0 lag. I'm on i9-12900k anr RTX3090. It should not be that slow.
Amazing tool. I downloaded the plugin from github to try out. I followed the face retopo work flow demo section but when I have the mirror on x-axis, any vertices I tried to nudge around a bit with the Tweak tool gets snap to the center immediately...Any ideas how is causing this? Edit: so it looks like this is due to the Merge/Apply Threshold value, for regions close to the center line, I set this value to zero and no longer has vertices snapping issue.
both this guide and the add-on are interesting; but it has a defect or rather that it automatically disables the view or (hidden) of the vertices, edges, faces; somehow you bust the grid view of the world; how to re display on retopoflow.obj; since I use it?!
Ruff performance and wonky tool sometime.. but features in most of the time bad ass...wish it was vanilla implemented .. my dame spend you can have for such a project. CG Gang like always tip top
Interesting workflow, I’m looking at picking this plugin up soon (just getting into learning Blender) What would be the best practice for adding topology in internal cavities such as inside the mouth and nostrils (or eye sockets if you’re retopoing a skull)
It works very well and you can really speed up with it BUT it’s way to slow. Even on smaller meshes for retopo it slows down and also the handling inside the tool feels very laggy
If i don't want to start form scratch can i use quadremash and refine that mesh with retopo flow?? Isn't that faster it would be good if there was tutorial on rifineing an existing low poly mesh on the high poly one with retopo flow
I can’t seem to get mirroring working like in this video. Instead of snapping, as I approach the mirror line my brush starts moving in the opposite direction of my mouse, and when I release the geometry doubles up back over itself in a mess….
Is there a way to change a material's colors based on the color of light pointed at the object it's applied to? I want to make it so the SSS can turn blue in the areas where it's illuminated by a blue light and have it turn green if it was Illuminated in the area where it's lit green

It's quite expensive. Topogun is almost the same price but can handle much denser meshes smoothly, and it also has baking features and more. I think it would be better if this plugin was at a $50 price margin. I'll waiting for a discount, as I am quite happy with "Instant Meshes" for now.
Redid my scaling so everything is 1.0, made sure object is centered on cursor at 0,0,0 & still mirror is flagging bad gemetry (when its not, and will invert it), and ANY time i toch a vert... it stnaps to mirror line. - no guides on this..... for 80$ im starting to get VERY frustrated. update. after about an hour of trial error - flipping lcocals, globals, and recalculating normals.... it turns out you cant draw on one side of the face. switch sides.
Doesn’t retopology erase all the intricate detail on a sculpt? I don’t understand where all the fine detailing goes, or how to get it back once retop is finished.
I used to do mainly hard surface modeling and product animation but recently decided to try some basic character design, it came at the perfect time for me!! Nevertheless i still can't understand why is so common to firstly sculp the detailed model and then spend even more time to loose this all nicely sculpted details. It makes zero sense to me, can anyone explain it?
You don't lose the details when you bake them down! Thank you for the answers, i still don't get it. The details from the detailed sculpture becomes a texture bump maps or displacement maps? Such technique is really possible? I have been doing 3D product animation for living for over 5 years and never heard about it, I feel like a total ignorant...

I have seen at some other videos people sculpting some fancy details of the body for hours and then covering it with extremely simple retopologized mesh with no details of the sculpted models. Do they also bake a sculpted model as a normal map? What is a purpose of it? More predictable shading and rigging?

regarding polypen, how do you extrude the edge, and snap the quad to the nearby perpendicular quad? like an edge loop has been completed around an eye but you need to do another loop around that one? im not sure why there isnt an option to scale an edge loop on normals haha, we are having to circle around the edge loop like animals 😂 edit: 27:40 nvm you covered it, quad only mode

Here you go again, Jonathan. You always have so much to say. A simple explanation can turn into hours of listening to you. Do you really think our users have that much time to spare? Just provide a straightforward usage guide with a few practical examples, and spare us the unnecessary chatter. Please.
I assume you can read. If so, the title says Complete guide and you can see the length of the video as well. Correct? There are chapters as well, so everyone can watch just what is interesting for them. If you think you don't want or can't spend the time, well ... nobody forces you to watch it. Other people (me included) like the longer format with a lot of tips and tricks, and as I just got the addon this video for me was worth every single minute. For me as a new user there was no unnecessary chatter, only valuable information. But to be honest, I will never understand why some people (obviously you included?) always find something to complain about, even if the video is completely FREE. And it is not only rude, but also kind of selfish and even arrogant to tell Jonathan how to make free content so it better fits YOUR liking. Learn some manners. Please!

@@wp-ie Didn't I just leave my opinion and leave immediately? I don't have to stick around because there are faster and more convenient methods, and different tools should be used at different times. This tool is a waste of time in terms of speed, and it's not even friendly to Mac, especially in terms of performance. The workflow is also outdated when there are clearly better methods available.
