I am beyond surprised and humbled to see how well my Ghostbusters game documentary has done. Took a social media break this weekend and logged in to see it had blown up (in a good way). If I can get the stuff to do it, I have footage from the night of the game release in 2009. I was a member of the Dallas ghostbusters chapter that was involved with some of the helping of the game.

Also unless I missed something and you covered it, I was told by an employee (yes I know who it is no I won’t post it live) that said that at one point they didn’t know if they’d get the rights for the theme song so another song was considered. However there was controversy with it. In short, you can find the song on RU-vid under the title “pumps ghostbusters 3” this song was to be used in case the original song couldn’t be used and was planned to be included in the end credits but Sony stepped in and said no.

That video was a pleasant surprise. I think so too that the 2009 Ghostbusters game was and still is something special and to me feels like the long missed third movie (at least before afterlife came out, fuck 2016... that was bullshit). Anyway awesome work!

This is the video game retrospective I wanted for years to be made on the Ghostbusters The Video Game. Thank you so much for making this as this game meant so much to me as a teenager who grew up in a period where all I had to obssess over was the first two films. I'm currently working on a Ghostbusters comic, and playing this as I work on it really gets me in the mood.

I remember going to Terminal Reality’s office for a day when they were creating the game. Everyone seemed pretty down to earth and friendly. There was a working demo at the time (the museum level) that I got to play and I remember they were surprised that I found something of an exploit in the gameplay (freezing the ghosts, putting a trap under them, and then hitting them with a proton blast).

It's nothing short of a crime we haven't gotten a follow up to this in some fashion. I feel like the mistake people make is the assumption that we need the original cast for this to be good. It certainly was a nice bonus, but this game would have been fantastic even if it had been a completely random crew or impersonators. Busting feels good in this game, and that's all that matters. This actual, real game, with a start-to-finish "story mode" (if we have to call it that). It's not some rinse/repeat multiplayer garbage (spirits unleashed). It's not some dinky garbage trying to come up with it's own gear that has nothing to do with the source material and is overflowing with try hard, but super cringe, writing (Ghost Lord). It just let you be a Ghostbuster, an actual Ghostbuster, in an ACTUAL game. That is all it needed.

I remember the first game being hard as balls for me couldn’t work it out at all. I LOVED the real ghostbusters 2 on nes, I don’t know why but loved the top down perspective.

Ghostbusters is one of my favorite… things. I love everything in the franchise from comics, shows, and yes, reboots. The Video Game had a massive effect on me. For a long time I called it my favorite video game because it’s just so damn fun. I always wished there would be a sequel in some form.

Thanks for making this. The game was a true labor of love and TRI really caught lighting in a bottle. Most of the team has gone on to contribute to many AAA games you have all heard of, but all of them hold a special place in their hearts for Proton.

Great video! One minor note on details - in Europe the PS2 and PS3 versions were published by Sony (hence the delayed release on 360 in that region) but in US all versions were published by Atari and the Xbox 360 version released at the same time as the PS2 and PS3 versions in June and not months later as is suggested in this video (and certainly true for the EU release).

Awesome video! Man, has it really been fifteen years? Time really flies! I can still remember stumbling onto a Gamespot article about Zootfly's Ghostbusters game. I was super hyped! Then it was cancelled, and I was devastated. Not long after that, Sony officially announced Ghostbusters: the Video Game, and my hype skyrocketed once again! Got the PS3 version as soon as it released and still play it from time-to-time. Thanks for all of the time and effort you put into this video! I loved every second of it!

Great video! Love that you gave the Stylized Edition the time it deserved, far too many people ignore it or don't even know it exists. As someone who's been playing it for those 15 years and speedruns it often, hearing about it in videos that make it to large audiences always makes me happy that people do still care about this great game!

absolutely phenomenal video! absolutely love GB the video game. i knew lots of stuff about the game already just from my own research over the years including the zootfly game but this video taught me a lot about the development the game went through and has LOADS of stuff in it that i never knew about the game! i can tell lots of work went into it with the amount of research and facts present!

Awesome video, you did an amazing job! I learned quite a few things that I didn't know, especially Ghostbusters Infinite Darkness. I remember the pictures that popped up, on Google Images, of that unreleased game, whenever I searched up Ghostbusters III back in the day. I just never knew it was from there, I always thought it was some fan made, photoshop thing!

This is a game that needs to be chronicled. So much that had to come together, and it almost didn't. But it did, and we got what should have been a Ghostbusters 3. Thanks for doing this, giving a lovely insight into what went on none of us knew. Also, as much as I like Bill Murray, and maybe he had his reasons, but... that explains why so much of his content is repeats and half of it sounds phoned in. Not the first voice acting work he's done that for, something about repeating content I guess (getting him to do any sequels is apparently pulling teeth from a herd of cats or something... the game is just one example)

Great video, filled a lot of holes I didn't know about this games production. Love Bill Murry's work on Ghostbusters, but it has to be said he may be the worst thing that happened to the franchise. Can only imagine Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis speaking to themselves in the past regarding casting Bill Murry. "Positive, you'll have made one of the most iconic movies of the ever produced." "Negative, after the sequel, all attempts to make a Ghostbusters project with the entire original cast for almost 30 years will fail almost exclusively due to Bill Murry"

They need to make a movie adaptation of this. Many plot moments were changed to keep it in the processing power abilities of the PS3. Such as near the end when you attempted to pull down the gate and the car stopped, it was supposed to fly into a ditch instead of just sit there. And maybe the deleted parade section could be in it. It was would also be Egon’s return to Ghostbusters! And lastly, the CGI cutscenes have lots of unused dialogue

I swear I'm responsible for us getting the remaster in 2019. I put up a post asking for a remaster on Reddit a couple years before and it drew quite a bit of interest (For the Ghostbusters sub Reddit anyway) a guy came in who seemed to know a hell of a lot about the game code and where it could be. He said the studio had shutdown and he thought the code was in one of the developers garages in storage and that they probably wouldn't be able to find all of it. He said he would speak to the developer to find out about the code. A couple years later we got the remaster and low and behold some of the code was missing. We didn't get all the logo screens music at the start as it was lost. A few other bits were lost but I can't remember what they were now as it's been a while.

The multiplayer code was also lost, and the code for the FMV cutscenes I think, which is why they are in mono audio and slightly lower quality than originally. I don’t get it though, in the FMV’s they somehow got rid of the Cadillac logo on Ecto One.

Ya know people everywhere are wishing for another video game like this, but honestly this game is such a masterpiece there can't be another one like it!! I can't tell you how long I've been playing it, I can play it over and over till I turn blue😂 and yes Dan Aykroyd was right it definitely is like a proper third movie and I can't agree with him more!! It was the last time Harold Ramis was his Egon character and everyone else who had reprised their roles and thats what makes it special. this game has really a special charm when i rented it for my 360. the german version had almost all german voice actors from both movies, which gave the game even more charm, i´m not understand way the german dub is not included in the remastered version.

Great video and cheers to getting those interviews, totally worth it. Literally just completed a replay of the remastered edition on Switch this weekend. Would have been cool if they had included the stylized Wii edition with it. Regardless, it has it's frustrating moments, but overall, it's still a fun experience that just makes you want more of it. On a side note, Alyssa Milano's performance is just painful to listen to.

Great work. This was my favorite game ever and so happy to see all the new info! Id love to watch a whole hour on the zootfly project. It was such an important moment in GB game history when those videos leaked and although i much prefer the game we got, their unique take on it was awesome looking in its own right.

Dope retrospective & a great job putting it together. I like that's it's a straightforward telling of how it came to be & what succeeded it without a ton of personal commentary & over-the-top editing gags like so many tend to do these days. I've still got the T-shirt that came with the pre-order of the game! I'm not really a fan of 'Afterlife' or 'Frozen Empire' & the 2009 game has been where the buck stops for me in terms of overall true Ghostbusters energy. Everything from the cast to the mechanics to the soundtrack felt like a legitimate "Welcome back" to that universe. I've always felt the best way to continue GB would've been more video games centered around the Real Ghostbusters series. That show gave us so much to play around with with its interesting villain gallery, etc. A nice follow-up to that would be to of course include the Extreme GB

I don't hold it against the remaster for not having multiplayer. For one thing it probably just wouldn't have worked on switch, also if the couldn't reuse the old code and didn't want to slap something together in an update when the rest actually had effort in it more power to them. The remaster, like many, enabled a whole new generation to play it, myself included.

I've always considering the game as the third film, as it should be since everyone was involved. "Afterlife" would be the fourth film. I'm ignoring "Frozen Empire". I don't know what went wrong, but that was not a good film. I got halfway through it and switched off when Winston was berating Phoebe for the situation at the library. None of the cops at the scene defender her. Couple that with some many other issues up to that point, the film became seriously annoying to watch.

Nobody thinks that, nobody thinks they wrote it..Venkman also disappears or stops speaking halfway through the game because Prick Murray decided he was finished recording voice overs and just left so midway through he either is not there, says nothing or they recycled lines he had recorded

They didn't write it but the idea they weren't involved with the script is another myth, Terminal Reality had most of the broad strokes and then Dan & Harold rewrote it to bring it more inline with the tone of the movies. they mostly just dealt with the lore and dialogue

I rewrote it doing little tiny structural things, mostly bringing back the tone of the original dialogue and the vernacular - the terms, the idiom - but they really had it. Two-thirds of it was there. Then they gave it to Harold. He did the same thing." Aykroyd and Ramis admit that Atari's claim they wrote the script to the game is purely marketing 'bunk'. "The crassest way I can put it is that they couldn’t have paid us enough to give it the time and attention required to make it as funny as a feature film," said Ramis.
