On today's THE CONFIDANTS we talk about a character both of us expected to hate, yet ended up really enjoying for a change. I want to eat cake and play video games with Ann then have her beat me up. Tweet at me; @fitherfith
"One of my favorite female characters who isn't my waifu" Pretty spot on. I see Ann kind of like Ryuji does. Yes, she's really, really, really hot. But I don't actually want to date her, she's simply a "female bro" to me.
Theory: I think the cartoon antagonist that Ann admires is Catwoman! Catwoman inspired her outfit and weapon of choice. Ann lived in the U.S. for a number of years, so she was surly exposed to American television at least once.
While I obviously can't state any certainties, there is a lot of evidence pointing to Fujiko Mine from Lupin III being the character Ann is talking about.
Yeah Ann's a good character. I especially like how Ryuji would just nopes her whenever she tried hitting on him. I think the only time she gets violent with the guys is in the dessert when they're all trying to take a peak and considering already hot as all hell and she's probably not in the greatest of moods, I can let it slide. Plus it only happens once. As for the Mika thing, I think it's less liking her, and more respect because of how dedicated she is to modeling to the point of being a bitch. I do think it sucks how both she and Yusuke drop off after Madarame's palace, especially when Ryuji, who was there from the beginning manages to stay relevant. Then of course you have Futaba and Makoto.
@Luka Roncada On Anns social link (I forgot which rank) she, Ryuji, and Akiren went to a gym. She said something along the lines of "I'll let you go on a date with me if you come up with a training regimen for me" and Ryuji immediately rejects her by saying "You're not some sexy anime character, stop acting like one" so I guess she hit on him once?
♥ Best girl! ♥ I have to say, Ann is not perfect, but I thought she was, along with Hifumi, the best girl. She's bubbly and lively, but she's also really sweet, kind and can be rational when she needs to. Her Confidant Storyline could have been a bit more fleshed out and better, but, especially the parts where she wants to become strong for Shiho were super touching. And her romance! God, it is so wonderful. She's so romantic and happy when you hang out with her, I loved it! ♥♥
When I first saw the trailer for the game before it came out, I dismissed Ann as the stereotypical chick of the main trio which I never was a fan of after Yukari from P3 and Chie from P4. That and I instantly thought Makoto was best girl. Flash forward to completing the game and I found that Makoto's actually isn't as interesting as she was hyped up to be and Ann is one of the stronger, more grounded in reality characters who is very upbeat, fun and kind, a VERY much welcome change from Yukari and Chie's bad attitudes. Oh and just to set the record straight, Ann isn't my choice for best girl, Hifumi Togo is
Cris P. Bacon I personally love Ann for those qualities and just her silly moments. Plus the trauma she had to endure due to Kamoshida's sexual advances and raping Shiho to the point where she attempted suicide. It's a scar that isn't so easily healed, and to me, as you progress through her social link, I felt like I made a genuine heartfelt connection. You see her trying to cope with what happened and her motivation to be more committed to her modeling job. I dunno, I just love her a little too much, bit bottom line, she's my personal favorite because of those moments and she just felt right
I think Ann get's the best development in the story. I especially liked her moment when confronting Kamoshida at the end of the dungeon. Ann's confidant is strongest when it involves Shiho. The other parts I was at first a little meh about since I didn't see what she was doing could help her. But thinking it over this makes it more realistic. I mean how many of us now exactly what we have to do to achieve our goals in life? We fumble around and stumble, try out different things and learn from it. So in that light Ann's confident while not the most exciting IS the most realistic as to how a normal person would act. Also I agree with Fither with how Ann basically became a bro in the group. That's also why I didn't romance her because Ann felt like a bro instead of a love interest and that's great. I don't think I ever thought of any of the female persona characters as a bro.
That's definitely something I loved about Persona 5 - the girls weren't violently abusive karma houdinis that are supposed to be funny. P4 had this problem in spades; Yosuke or Teddie will do or say something perverted and all the guys will get attacked for it, like the camping trip. Even accepting the fact that you have no option to tell Yosuke off they through Kanji in with you for getting a nosebleed, which he probably got from the whole getting knocked out the night before. At the very beginning Yosuke accidentally breaks a DVD and upon returning it and informing Chie he promises to replace it with his next pay check, bowing the whole time. Chie grabs him, kicks him between the legs as hard as she can, gets angry at Yukiko for asking if he's okay, and marches out the room. Even when the entire situation is the girls' fault the guys get beaten up for it - yes, the hot springs incident. Yukiko brings the girls in during the guys' hour, the guys come in and get attacked and chased out, the girls realise that they're in the wrong and laugh about it, and it's never brought up again. Sure, Yosuke and Teddie can be perverts but for Yu and Kanji you have to wonder why they put up with it. Not Persona 5. The perversion from the guys was downplayed - Ryuji has a handful of pervy moments, and Yusuke's not even a pervert, just oblivious - and the girls don't physically assault them except for when they're scared that Ryuji's dead and Ryuji, who had to have been terrified himself considering he just got blown up, awkwardly laughs it off and they flip out. In fact, we don't even see what they did; for all we know they just held him up against the lamppost and decided to drop him. Unlikely, but possible. Jeez, that turned into a rant. I love P4G, but I do skip those points whenever I reach them. Anyway, P5 does turn the routine anime trope of 'pervy boys and violent girls' around and make the characters much more human and rounded than most. If I sound like I hate any of the P4 characters, I really don't, except the new voice actress for Chie. In vanilla she was emotional girl with a normal voice, in Golden she was a manic tsundere that screeches every line that comes out of her mouth. The rest, though, are characters I do enjoy and have grown attached to, even your hated Riser, though I do see where you're coming from with her - she doesn't need to be Risette 24/7 around the group. Being tofu Rise occasionally would be more interesting. Anyway, I'm rambling, so I'm gonna go. Oh, by the way, I'll give Ann a great for being one of the most genuinely human Persona characters and her Confidant a good for it's funny moments.
Thank you. I love Persona 4 but the girls' (in particular Chie) treatment of the guys is just disproportionate to their actual wrongdoings. Yosuke says he'll pay for another DVD and Chie kicks him in the balls BEFORE she even finds out he cracked her DVD. Chie and Yukiko throwing Yosuke, the MC and Kanji into the water was supposed to be funny but they could've easily have cracked their skulls on the rocks if they weren't lucky (made even worse by the fact that they dived into vomit). And signing Yosuke up for the "Miss" Yasogami contest made sense as YOSUKE was the one who signed them all up, they sign up the MC and Kanji for the contest for taking Yosuke's side (optional for the MC) AND Chie chastises Yosuke for signing up Teddie even though she did the same thing but Teddie was at least okay with it. Seriously, why does everyone say that Chie is best girl when she's this needlessly cruel?
PhoenixBlazer39 Immaturity is the perfect word. Immaturity is one of the defining characteristics of the Magician arcana. Just look at Kenji's naive romance with his teacher or Morgana's petulance and need for approval. The social links and confidants are all about taking the arcana character from the 'reversed' position and making them the 'upright' position, and since maxing out all of the social links is, I believe, canon, we can assume that Yosuke did indeed grow out of it. At the very least he definitely becomes much more comfortable with himself and his insecurities. Take his lack of awkwardness around Kanji later in the story, or his relationship with Teddie growing from antagonistic and resentful to something almost resembling a big brother relationship. He never does stop sucking Yu off, though, and I think I saw once in a video he was originally intended as a romance but they backed out later on. Combine that with his 'ambiguous' attitude if you flirt with him at the group date cafe and it gives a bit of context as to why he can be a douchebag to people he cares about. Still, the characters all grow up by the end of the story.
Lovers' primary flaw is being two-faced and being inconsistent with their ideologies because of how many choices they have. I think a reason Ann is better than other girls is that she actually makes up her mind and permanently overcomes her personality flaws/gets better at what she does, as opposed to Yukari who's emotionally unstable even after her character arc. Rise is a different story. The baseline to her character arc is that "there's no real [her]" and the ultimate catharsis is that she needs to go back to the idol industry, choosing to be flexible and adapt to the flow. Her being a Gemini doubles down on the idea that she's multifaced and she's capable of using that trait as a strength instead of a flaw.
I want there to be a Shiho confidante in P5 Crimson, I want it to be a miserable confidante, and I want it so that if they make her a romance option, i want anyone who decides to go down that route to fucking regret it.
I've heard the idea that doing a shiho confidant would be a horrible idea, because in their words "You'd be trying to fix her, for feeling horrible after being sexually assaulted"
22:40 in answer to your question, sometimes when an enemy knocks down one of your teammates the enemy will actually take that teammate hostage. When that happens they will ask for something, sometimes you have to give them some of your HP or SP, and other times it's an Item. If you don't they will kill you teammate. Ann's abilities are meant to help with that, but it rarely happens. I only found out about it during my second play thought.
@@sofi-yj2bg same 3 runs of p5 and im about to start my 3rd run p5r and I've never had a hostage situation Kinda feel left out now, like my team ain't good for me to even wanna take
Here to defend Rise. Rise was bullied as a kid and didnt have many friends at all. Then she got accepted into the idol business and thought she could make legitimate friends that way, but throughout her journey as an idol she began to feel a void within herself. Sure she enjoyed the stage and the attention, but she was working towards making friends, not to be some girl who's essentially a doll putting on shows with a fake smile and fake attitude. She quit to get a grip on her own reality and began wondering if she made the right choice. She didnt want to quit being an idol, she just wanted people to see her as Rise instead of "Just some idol to please a crowd". Sad thing is, she realized that AFTER she quit so she has to make up for lost time. With that realization and a strengthened resolve, she goes back in the idol industry doing what she loves most. Rise as a person is sassy and passionately direct; Her mere presence just screams "FUN!" and she's a joy to have around. Thats what makes her best P4 girl in my eyes.
AstroKite00 Um that’s a strange assumption. I get her back story and I know why she’s the way she is, but that doesn’t mean I have to like her. I don’t know why me not liking her makes me a social reject.
Ren Amamiya what do you mean by so fake? And what’s wrong with being clingy. clingy is cute and I rather like it. And she wasn’t really mean to yosuke, kanji is just very easy to pick on and they around the same age so it’s kind of a kinship.with teddie that’s actually good thing because nobody likes teddie (I don’t At least). In fact one of my favorite scenes with her is when all the girls for some reason unknown to man decide to go along with Teddie instead of going with Yu and rise is just like “ are you serious atlus? teddie? Fine whatever let’s just get over with” I find her massive crush on the protagonist really cute and that’s why she is kind best girl neck and neck with naoto
Blankbox How the hell can you watch Fither, if you have such inherently flawed logic? Just because someone has a lot of screen time, doesn't mean they're the best character.
Best girl!... Uh.... I uh.... I mean Igor.... totally.... I'm n-not showing my bias....... h-how.... how could you suggest That! Th-the the velvet truth.
I generally dislike confidants with Idol or model backround/business, as it seems to be everywhere and its just boring and overdone. But it was rather well handled with Ann, I like her a lot :)
I don't like her hairstyle, and I prefer girls with dark hair. What really won me over was her character. She's cheerful, fun and actually seems like someone you could hang out with. That being said, Best Girl.
Ohhhhhh, finding out you couldn't leave a calling card for that sack of shit was gut-wrenching. Instead, I focused on the satisfaction I felt the next time I beat the shit out of Okumura's cognition of him.
Totally Ann was a million times better than Yukari however I do like that Yukari and Ann have some mystery behind them that they are not falling over the protag unlike Rise. I cut Ann some slack because of what was happening with her. I liked Rise's character however I think she should not have that flip flop stuff you guys described. But I can understand why she was having 2nd thoughts due to jealousy of Kanami. I love Ann's character she is so bad ass. I do like Ann's confidant because of the continuation of Shiho's story and plus Ann's story as well.
Ann is a great character. But the execution of her Confidant is lacking because they focused too much on Shiho, not enough on Ann to the point that it feels almost shallow. They really should have made Shiho a Confidant herself. She a great character and the healing process has plenty of good story potential. Then that forces the writers to flesh out Ann beyond her modeling career and Shiho. It would certainly push her campaign to be best girl. (I played P5R thrice, and passed over Ann every time.) Also, in the interest of good taste, the Shiho should not be romancable in her Confidant. It's simply too soon. Also, Yusuke does paint Ann. But in cubist style. Check his room during the Third Semester or Dancing All Night.
Overall I really enjoyed Ann's confidant, there's just one *HUGE* thing that bothered me: The romance option. Ann shows absolutely *no* affection toward the protagonist and the moment you say "I love you" she just says that she loves you back? It feels really unnatural and forced.
Probably not. Given how random and sporadic these vids are, we're probably getting an Iwai confidant vid 3 months from now as the next confidant video.
The Easily Bored Gamer Honestly I think they're just stuck on "Should we include Sojiro and Iwai even though we already see them acting as dads, and are we ok with the backlash if we don't include them"
For some reason, I imagine Akechi would be like Toph in that he goes so far to be nothing like Shido that he actually fucks his own kids up in the process.
So far, Ann is the best cnfidant in P5. Her character's different from all persona ever had. Its sad hiw her character being sidelined in game and anime once Makoto's join. Not only Her, Haru also receive a same treatment.(exclude confidants out of thieves group) I also have a same thought b4 when I saw Ann n Joker poster before the game out. "Omg,Another typical japanese character! Damn, gonna be another Rise?" Then when the game out, Ann was the 1st confidant introduced. Heck, she is what I'm searching for in the game. As an animanga Lover, Ann is the type of girl you barely see or found in having a good story or as a main.Usually they were just a side/scnd character and thats happen to Ann in P5. Poor my Ann. She deserves better. Atleast in manga, Ann n Joker had more screen time and cute.
Honestly, when I was starting Persona 5, I had gone in completely blind, so I thought that Shiho would also be a Confidant. Honestly, if she replaced Chihaya, I’d be completely fine with that
Imagine if Shiho's confidant was Justice, and Akechi just had the reverse Fool or something; imagine if Shiho was Judgement, she makes it out of the hospital and you volunteer to help her out and she becomes your (extra) motivation to take down Shido and the Holy Grail, and the perks you'd gain would be some OP shit like "more exp when battling" or "double damage output" and Yaldabaoth's fight would be designed around these, on top of that, the ultimate Judgement would be some unique Persona designed for her and it'd be like the new Thanatos.
Ann's special ability of forcing enemies to ask for less during negation has to do with when your teammates being taken hostage after being downed by an enemy shadow and will take your stuff to return them, otherwise they knock them out for the battle. Pretty useless really, since it rarely comes up and you can use the thieves guild 3 times per metaverse entry.
I'm super late but any positive impression of Yukari must be stamped out. Ann is so much better than Yukari (especially the answer Yukari) it's not even funny.
Vidimod Team It's fun. I wish they'd bring back the giant characters. The final boss was so hard that I never unlocked the whole roster. Ivan was a mech from lost planet and the pilot was essentially (different character same helmet) my profile pic.
The talk about p4 about the characters and their shadows, dear god. Them facing their shadows is 1/2 of their story and their social link being the other half. That’s why the characters don’t automatically change right after they face their shadow. They still have some aspects of their pre-facing their shadow
I have one gripe about this video but it seems more of a slip of the tongue to me. It wasn't the trip to Hawaii that you were thinking of. It was the beach trip. I can see how that kind of blended mentally though so no worries.
@@bryce7344 but it's not her whole personality in the game or annoying in the same way say akihiko became protein man or chie became meat obsessed in Q and arena. Ann brings up sweets once in sendai as her friend request and I believe two other times when they are eating, that's it. She doesn't bring it up out of nowhere in places it doesn't make sense.
My short opinion bullet points on Ann -Really great early on, has nothing to do late (same as Ryuji) -Confidant is fun to do moment to moment but has a bad story. Mika is super awful and shouldn't have been portrayed as an inspiration. -Possibly the only time I've never felt like Atlus wanted us to feel like a main Persona girl was meant to be a romantic interest. I love her as a friend character. -Best visual design of any character outside the Metaverse. Panther is a good design but her body language doesn't match up with Ann's (Ann never tries to be sexy) and so feels off. -Best lover's girl, not a high bar to clear, but cleared.
Go understand the premis of p4 before you trash Rise or any other of the p4 cast please.. When any of them confront their shadow, it doesn't fix them.. Their link is when they work to cope Rise and Yukiko go full circle not because they dont develop but because they realize that in rebelling so radically they lost sight of themselves... It only looks weird if you compare them to someone like Kanji who has a much more in reach non-future related issue.. Fither, go play p4 again and remember to read.. comprehend the story before you form an opinion.
I think that Ann is a nice gal but she has a nice arch butt *pun intended, you see this and you just cringe* she is not my type of gal, she is always getting that attention plus getting shot down, she is funny but just not my cup of tea, like i just dont like her character i see her and ryuji together, just not with the main protagonist. Here is my couples in p5, Ann and Ryuji, Makoto and yusuke, haru and protagonist, futaba and her memes, but also sojiro and his coffee
I feel like Ann was kinda boring. She's cool cuz she doesn't flip her shit like the women of previous games over trivial things, but the only times she shows any actual character is when Shiho or Kamoshida are involved. Kinda wish she did things without having more interesting characters be the cause of it.
I think that it’s indeed a good idea to turn Shiho into a Confidant, but minus dating her (due to what happened). It can work as an empowerment story. Imagine ranking her for extended duration of buffs (like from 3 to 4 turns for example).
Ann was upsetting. I went in blind (except for looking up the names and models of my party members). Ann was super intense at the start. Dealing with her friend's attempt at suicide, kamoshida rumors etc. She was fighting through it all and I loved her attitude. Then she got all bubbly and ditzy, completely undoing all the character development up to kamoshida. Incidentally, when I first saw haru I rolled my eyes and thought she would be the worst character in the entire series. After going through the link, I found her to be one of my favorites and i loved going through her link.
She's just so pure. At first I wasn't sure if I should have the mc date her. But after a while I'm like I think we're fine as friends. Besides she's enjoying herself and her freedom and not letting anything tie her down. God she's so good and the world doesn't deserve her. But she is a great gal-bro but hey some people are into that.
They are essentially the same appeaence wise. Blonde hair, blue eyes, Japanese born and raised , names that can be pronouced in english and same main arcana. No doubt Ann is based off of Ginko
I think they hint at a Ryuji x Ann thing over a Yusuke x Ann thing. I mean Yusuke even expressly says he isn't attracted to her in the way. Ryuji and Ann have history and some actual chemistry, actually they kind of remind me of my first girlfriend and I.
I know this is gonna be evil of me, but... I kinda wish Ann would shut up about Shiho. Yes, what happened to her was absolutely awful. But when we're about to fight shadow Shido, we DON'T need a reminder about Shiho aka Jumper. Jesus Christ...
The reason I don't personally like Ann that much is because considering what she had gone through with Kamoshida and everyone else at school she chooses to use her sexuality against enemies, why choose specifically that over anything else to fight? Her fighting stance, knocked down pose, attack movements, etc. She really gets pissy if someone mentions anything good about her appearance but gets kinda upset if you don't. When they needed to get info from Yusuke, she was unnecessarily making the whole situation sexual even though Yusuke had already told her that he just wanted to draw her and wasn't interested in her romantically at all. Maybe I don't quite get it because I'm a guy but I feel like she was trying too hard to be sexy but at the same time she didn't want people to look at her that way. I don't get that thought process. Yeah she's growing up, but also are all the other girls her age in the game and none act like this. Sure everyone is different but considering her past experiences, I doubt she of all people would want to use her body that way for everyone else's gain. Not to mention that her acting chops are annoying to me because again, she does so by being sexual about it when there's NO reason to do so. She can try something else but doesn't even attempt to, her first thought is always to be sexy even though she doesn't like it.
