I was never a collector of beanie babies, but my sisters and I had a good number of them growing up. Apparently, it all started when my grandma saw a little display in the grocery store with these cute little toys that were sitting up, perfectly. Now, according to my grandma, when I was a toddler I liked to play "tea party" with my stuffed animals, and I would get myself all worked up when the stuffed bears would refuse to sit up. Well, my grandma picked up one of these beanie babies and plopped it back down on the display. It sat up. She picked it up again, and tossed it down with the care of a toddler. The toy bear stayed upright. She ended up buying the beanie baby for a fussy toddler. We ended up with so many beanie babies just because my siblings and I liked playing with them so much.

Some teachers in my school have at least one or three boxes filled to the brim with MILLION DOLLARS worth of Beanie Babies. And they are willing to give one to a kid for FREE if he/she has good behavior. And that is how I found my precious little Beanie kitty, Kooky.

i remember getting Beanie Babies as a child, and, i had this thing with tags, i hated tags, anything i got that had a tag, i'd cut it off, including Beanie Babies. luckily, my parents never freaked out on me if i cut off the tags, but they would say things like "you know, those things are really valuable, and if you keep the tags on, you can sell them for more money" even though, as a child, i couldn't comprehend the idea of selling my belongings, because child me was kinda selfish and didn't like giving away my things. although as a broke adult, i kinda wish i kept the tags on my Beanie Babies...

Not the biggest fan of the normal Beanie Babies, but I really like the larger, higher-quality versions, the Beanie Buddies. The bears and rabbits are the perfect size, and the fabric used is very soft and durable. I never could find a Beanie Baby version of the royal blue Peanut the elephant, but I was able to pick up a Beanie Buddy version in mint condition at a thrift store for way cheaper than I could ever hope to find its smaller counterpart. For less affluent collectors or someone who just wants a really nice stuffed animal, Beanie Buddies are the way to go.

I remember beanie baby fad quite well. Mother and Grandmother would take us kids to these random mom and pop shops to buy these things by the ton. If I remember correctly the bears were the most expensive and people would keep them in a glass case or plastic box. I just had a bunch of dogs and cat beanie babies and they ended up in the same stuffed animal pile almost every kid had when they were little.
