As requested, I put the first five parts into one video! I enhanced the music, the narrative, and tweaked the transitions a bit. All said and done - It's 2 and a half hours long. Enjoy and remember to share on social media! Part 6 should be out by the end of the month. I've added time breaks to the description - if anyone wants me to add more time breaks or to edit them let me know.

I am impressed by the fact that you are constantly calling Byzantium "Eastern ROMAN empire", striping it from any Greek element! You know, I am a Greek of Byzantine descent. I am married to a Greek Constantinopolitan lady whose parental family was living in Constantinople - probably ever since the city was founded by Constantine. Her ancestors were NOT some kind of "immigrants" in Constantinople. They were Greek - Byzantines, the dominant ethnicity in Byzantium (and especially in Constantinople)! In 1964 my wife's family was expelled by the Turks from Constantinople (the city that the Turks call it Istanbul - paraphrasing its Greek name). We preserve centuries old family heirlooms, books, ikons etc. from Constantinople, which are Greek in every sense! Me and my Constantinopolitan wife feel 100% Greek and we perceive our centuries old Byzantine/Constantinopolitan ancestors as Greeks (that's what history and our centuries old heirlooms are telling us)! We don't feel "Romans" dear "Flash Point History"! Neither we feel that our Byzantine ancestors were "Romans"! They were Greek - Byzantines in every sense!

Wow great work 🙌 ive never seen such a detailed documantary on byzantine on youtube . Sidenote : i know in future videos georgian kindom will come up but during fall of selkuk empire biggest battles were fought in caucasus like didgori in 1121 and i like to see that contrast as byzantine empire deminishes its power , georgia becames most powerfull christian kingdom and even establishes trabizond empire later on . I also like too see more on saladin and his relattionship towards christian realms . Brilliant work cant wait for next one 🙏

It was very hard to cover that aspect of it without destroying the narrative. I was covering more the Komnenian Restoration and the build up to the 2nd Crusade. Sadly with a history that covers from 600 - 1453 a lot ended up on the cutting room floor.

The overall use of maps, overview of the strategies and the amazing narration are the best things I have come across. Islam can be regarded today as too fundamentalist. Compared to milder faiths like christianity or buddhism. But then again Islam is 600 years younger than christianity. 600 years ago... in the 1400s... christianity was pretty fundamentalist too. So theres hope Islam can be milder also as the centuries pass. All religion should be benign

Stunning. Absolutely Gorgeous. This is one of the best (and unfortunately fully detailed) documentaries on Byzantium out there (also your editing with transitions and graphics and overlays is excellent). I am curious if you have ever thought about expanding on this (yes, even longer) and doing a just-as-detailed history on all of the Byzantine Empire (It is so hard to find anything comprehensive out there). I recently started the History of Byzantium podcast by Robin Pierson which is excellent and thorough - was seeing a companion documentary done by you with multi-video documentaries on each of the dynasties to rule over the Empire (maybe he would even want to partner up as he has already done so much research!). Also would love to see an in-depth muti-doc series on other "forgotten realms" like the Seljuk Empire that would puzzle piece very nicely in to this documentary (eg. realms you never can find good info or documentaries on). Your touch is needed!

Happy that you liked this so much - I actually reached out to Rob Pierson when I was doing the Manzikert video on twitter. He's a nice guy and really helpful. Thats an intriguing idea to do a series on RU-vid based on his content. I wonder if he'd be up for that. For what its worth - I've already completed several other videos in this series. I'm hoping to have a compilation video on parts 6-13 out in late Feb.

The bubonic plague killed al the civilised people who lived in the cities and along the densly populted rivers of the Nile and the Levent and the Mediterranean sea....al the Arab, Berber and Turkish nomads had to do is come in squat the place....because nomads are less vanurable to the plague because of their isolation. So....the upcoming and florishing of Islam and Christianity was not a historical high like Pharaonic Egypt or Sumarian Iraq or Phencian Carthage or Vedic India or imperial China or even Caesarean Rome...But a historical deprission that ended with the European renaissance and the discovery of America and the seven seas..that is why the Islamic period is called the medieval dark ages.

For me the dawn of monotheistic religions as Christianity and Islam with this obsession of conquering people in the name of God is just another misery this world had to suffer and many many many communities and languages lost for ever. Sorry, I don't want to be offensive but it's quite ironic both Christians and Muslims claim to be peaceful or wish for peace when they have such a history. As an Arab I feel truly sorry for Heraclius, had he died before the Islamic invasion his star might've outshined the star of Justinian for his incredible victory against the Sassanids and also for restoring the True Cross. Shame that his legacy had to end where our rise took place... Yet also at the same time as an Egyptian I disdain him for his persecution of my people, he's one of the few historical characters for whom I have conflicting feelings :)

@@FlashPointHx Fun fact if you're interested: There's a chapter in the Quran called "Al-Room" which means 'The Romans'. In this chapter it was prophesied that the Romans (who seemed to be marching towards their demise) would defeat the Sassanids. I initially didn't understand the importance of this prophecy as it's natural that wars don't have a clear winner at first so it's up to prediction. But after I watched your documentary I was shocked by the true severity of the situation for the Byzantines. From a hindsight they were surely going to lose. Ironically, had they lost, the Quran's validity (and thus Islam's) would've been seriously damaged... That's why I like Heraclius and his daring campaigns which bought Byzantium another 8 centuries of life!!
@shanemoore8055
@shanemoore8055 3 года назад
@@deeipomar2366 How can that be a prophecy? By the time the Quran was written (7th century), the Roman empire was well`n truly "demised", by about 2-3 centuries. Unless it specifically refers to the Byzantium empire, then it would be interesting, but it doesnt. Seems this book is good in predicting the past.
