Another week and we delve another tier deeper into the New Vegas Iceberg. Welcome to The Conspiracy Tier. While the two previous tiers covered some well-known New Vegas facts, cut content, and bits of lore, Tier 3 is home to a bunch of New Vegas fan theories. From the game's Metacritic Score to what exactly can be found in the Vault 13 canteen, the third tier of the New Vegas Iceberg is conspiracy central. And as always, scattered throughout this tier is other cut content, lore, and odd facts. Without further ado, Let's get into it.

I love new vegas its my favorite game it the whole franchise but that seems like a lie to me i mean the super mutants in fallout 3 have scarred faces and gouls exist they definitely have the technology to make a messed up looking face but tbf i don't know the situation maybe they wanted it to be more detailed than possible but its not impossible to make him battle scarred

Yes, I don't think their working relationship was strained as many others theorize. I think a lot of people are trying to rationalize Bethesda's overall reaction to the release of the game; they mostly treat it like it never happened. This is consistent with how they treat fallout 3, too. The only time I can recall them acknowledging it is including NCR veteran armor in 76 when it was failing hard. They actually make more fallout 1 and 2 references in the games than anything else, and seem to only talk about new titles in interviews.

All that happened was Bethesda rushed the project. I do think it's fair to say they didn't really care about it, and just told them "finish this damn thing and move on." And personally if I was invested in developing an entire freaking Xbox game, this sort of thing would make me pretty bitter toward Bethesda.

@@EngieMak If I'm not mistaken originally New Vegas was supposed to be a DLC that became a full-fledged game. Regardless Obisidian knew and agreed to the time limit. Their main issue was getting distracted and trying to add so many different things into the game. Hell, the amount of stuff they cut from the game shows they were stretching themselves thin.

i think if the courier were the lone wanderer there would be some indication of their prior knowledge of the enclave. from what i recall at least it doesn't seem like they know anything about them when talking to arcade, daisy, etc

I'm a big fan of the Legate Lanius theory - the myth of the Monster of the East is greater than the man behind the mask. His achievements and background may be all correct - but are true for different men who were all at one point the Legate.

@nicolasdurruti I'm trying to tell this story to as many people as I can because I feel it's an import moral When I was a 14 year old lad I went with a group of friends to a guy named Stuart "loose bum" Rennie's house. While there someone asked his mother how Stuart got the moniker Loose Bum. She started laughing and told us the tale of how she sent him to boarding school 4 year prior, when Stuart Loose Bum was 15. While he was there he provoked a bunch of the other boys and they sneak attacked him, beat him up and crammed a glass bottle up his rear end. The boys then smashed the bottle with a swift hit to the abdoment with a baseball bat. The damage to Stuart Loose Bums colon and anus was so extensive that he lost the ability to control his bowel movements for quite some time. During that time his mother started calling him loose bum and his peers started following suit. Stuart "Loose Bum" Rennie died of a meth overdose 7 years ago. You can look up his obit. His son is now a fenti addict. 😮 Don't be a Stuart Loose Bum. His life was without worth and his mother recognized the fact long before anyone else.

It is pretty sad that the Obsidian team did not get their bonuses for Fallout New Vegas but even they claim responsibility for the bugs. Even with the bugs, I as somebody who as only played the unmodded vanilla game will still say it's like 9.5/10

My theory on the Legate is that the one everyone talks about died in between the first and second battle of Hoover Dam and one of his more level headed subordinates or a protégé took over the identity thats how you can talk him down

you covered the chosen one's car and jsawyer in this video, so i'm kinda surprised you missed out on a big connection between the two. in the jsawyer mod, the courier's stash items are actually placed thoughout the world instead of given to you, and the classic pack items are placed in the trunk of the wrecked highwayman!

When you're driving, you aren't just going to suddenly and deliberately veer into a lamp post unless you want to kill yourself. Every conspiracy which has later been proven true took into account those motivations. Even more absurd sounding ones like MK Ultra. There was a clear motivation beyond just "they could do it." Any government would kill for any supposed mind control capability, and they did

ok legate lanius not being the original one is a little silly like he’s a borderline myth for the wasteland, a legend. it’s more than possible that his actions get dramatized by word of mouth, you know, like stuff tends to do. people make their own narratives of super powerful figures and celebrities. that’s literally how folk tales begin

I know it might not entirely make sense but I still like to buy into that first theory. There are a few years in between and while yes - there are hints that he's way longer in the West - it's still conditional and none of it is really confirmed as "canon". The only thing that can really exclude the Courier from this theory is the dialogue with the Lonesome Drifter with the Ladykiller perk (again, conditional) but even that one can be interpretated in different ways. It also fits the title of "Lone Wanderer" and them wanting to escape from their past in the Captial. Even the dialogue with Doc Mitchell "I know how it feels like when something's taken from you" (or something along those lines) felt like a nod, after he gave you a new Pip-Boy. But that's just me. Still, I really like your iceberg videos and all the explanations you provide.

So as far as the Sierra Madre‘s gold in Elijah’s head. There’s also a slightly easier way if you don’t wanna have to worry about accidentally dropping it as soon as he puts up the shield deal with him and make sure he’s right next to the shield and then deposit all the gold that way run the course take the gold out and hope you have enough time to hit the door. Also, the mod that gives you like five jet a day also really helps. Just in case anybody wants to replay it I replayed it about a month ago and it still works.

I never knew about the Elijah's head exploit. There was an older exploit when it came out, that you could grab all the bars, walk slowly to the laser door, drop the bars on the other side, and if done fast enough, have time to run the gauntlet and grab the gold before dying. Funny enough, I didn't have the perk that allows you to fast travel while encumbered, so I had to painfully walk all the way to the lucky 38. Worth it.

Its way easier to take the gold bars by just hiding from Elijah til he gets close to the vault, then escape through the door he entered through and hear the unique dialogue. It’s a far better ending if you ask me. The hard part is that no Mojave vendors carry enough caps to buy the bars outright.

God, thank you for addressing the whole ‘Bethesda purposely screwed over Obsidian’ thing… it’s so childish, why tf would they actively sabotage something that they had tons of money invested in? And the rating thing, yeah it sucks that they missed the rating score by only 1 point, but they missed the mark, period. Bethesda aren’t the bad guys for not giving them something they didn’t earn. The lanius part is almost certainly wrong, first off why would Caesar send anyone other than his strongest to take the dam, secondly he is by far the strongest legion member we fight so if he is a fake he'd have to be a really good one thirdly both Hanlon and Caesar gain from lying about how brutal Lanius is Caesar gains a Black beard figure who could terrify his men into submission and his enemies to rout and Hanlon gains because he wants the NCR to retreat and let the legion have the dam so painting the Legate as a terrifying force of nature helps. Everyone gains by lying about Lanius instead of saying he's a tactically minded general who strategizes how to best take down his foes and would retreat if needed unlike that idiot Graham who walked into an explosion face first because he couldn't predict the ol' "I sure am running away" trick Not quite the Black beard energy when you know he's a person and not a monster.

I think that people forget that New Vegas only became almost universally loved recently; even as recent as like 2014 I would tell people my favorite game was fallout new vegas and they would look at me funny, like it was just the weird DLC of the absolute masterpiece that was Fallout 3. Even though tons of classic Fallout fans hated 3; the zeitgeist saw Fallout 3 as amazing and a lot better when compared to New Vegas. New Vegas even made an appearance on this old top 70 worst/disappointing games list I watched back in the day because they said it was buggy and generally uninteresting so them getting a less than 85 score makes sense in that context

2:13 giving you optional dialogue choices that you can not use or use depending on your playthrough doesn't really support your case and no nothing suggests The courier is a established entity in the Mojave aside from Ulysses which could have been in the gap between the two games don't personally like this theory or have it in my head Canon but your debunk is extremely weak just as valid as their head cannon That's one of the great things about the game it's a role players wet dream

I believe Survival Mode was inspired by Fallout 3 mods, which became the foundation of Hardcore Mode in NV. JSawyer Mod was full of changes that Joshua Sawyer wanted to make to NV Vanilla, such as Karma ratings being adjusted for certain characters to be more accurate in-lore.

The whole ‘why would they sabotage a chance to make money’ thing doesn’t really make sense. I’ve seen loads of situations where people blow up their whole lives just the be ‘the best’, and obsidian was on their way to proving why they’re the better studio for making fallout games 😂 Bethesda can’t make good money on fallout 4 if new Vegas is better than 4 a decade before 4’s conception, so I wouldn’t put it past them 🤷‍♂️
