and the eagle talon and mitsubishi eclipse, dodge conquest and mitsubishi starion. they had a few rebadge sporty cars. i almost bought a talon in the 90's but it needed tie rods and they wouldn't come down on the price.
I just bought an 86 Red Conquest with 88k and a 87 Beige Conquest with 61k on the clock. the 87 will be fun and the 86 will be restored to an extent . Looking for a VG+ Silver Starion and a Gold one at some point in the next couple years.
My brother had one of those...bought it brand new. Exactly like the one shown. Those were performance cars, great suspension, lots of power, fun to drive. He had a ball with that car, it was a daily driver for him...and boy did he drive it!
Man, seeing this car brings back so many memories from my childhood. My dad had this exact same car, the Chrysler Conquest model. I've personally never seen the Mitsubishi Starion model here in the states. Also, the first generation 1990 Eagle Talon AWD TSi turbo was another awesome car Chrysler came out with that was the same as the Mitsubishi eclipse.
I drove my uncles that was identical to this one to my senior year prom in 1990. I felt like a badass. It ended up rotting away in my grandfathers field.
Can you remember the pounds of boost you had in it new ? I remember 12 for some reason not 7 ,although when I got mine it was only running 7 pounds and I did a complete tune up and it went to 12
@@bryandouglas739 The 84 Dodge Conquest had 145hp with 7 pounds of boost. I use to own one, great car! The 87 was the first year of the intercooler and had 177hp and the 88 came out with 188hp. I think the 87/88 had the 12 pounds of boost.
@@bryandouglas739 Right this guy doesn't know what he's talking about, because i get 10 psi at around 4500 rpms in my 87 Starion/Tsi, and i just had my G54bt rebuilt and got another new factory 12a Garret turbo installed and it pulls strong and sounds good at 3000 rpm and i can get more power out of the car by doing some exhaust work, but back in 87 these cars were producing something like 180 hp/200 lbs torque.
Loved this car growing up. Reminded me of a Porsche 944. Unfortunately they discontinued it when I was old enough to drive and was able to get a mustang
I use to own two of these...a 1988 Red one and a 1989 Black one. Stock Power was 188 HP and 234 lbs ft of Torque. These were easy to modify and I miss them!!
They're becoming very popular again, i have one myself an 1987 Mitsubitshi Starion/Conquest Tsi (rebadged), just like the one in this video. The car culture community for these are blowing up, maybe with enough influence they'll bring it back into production, who knows they did it with the Supra so why not give the Starion/Conquest another chance.
I remember buying a twin turbo RX-7 at 17, and indeed the insurance was close to $300 a month for liability only, not even full coverage.. *Worth it!* 👍👌✌
Gorgeous. I wanted to buy one in 88 ...dealer said it would go 150 top speed. I knew better than that...lol This and the Chrysler Laser XT were my favs at the time
I had one of those 1988 it was my second car I was 17 that car had the highest insurance rating in the United States higher than a Corvette at the time I remember I was paying over $400 a month for car insurance 🤪
89 was the first year the eclipse was introduced to the world... Thus being the replacement for the conquest/starion .... Which is a great underrated sports car the conquest/starion
In 1989 my mom took me car shopping for my first car and that was the car I picked out and she almost bought it for me until she went and talked to one of her dealer friends and ended up buying me a dealer car which was a Ford EXP LOL I still wish I would have had that Conquest cuz it is such a rare car now
I went to the Texas State Fair in the late 80's, and they had a car show going on in one of the plaza buildings........and they had this exact model sitting there. Looking all sexy and sleek. I wanted it SO bad. But, as with most overseas cars, there was NO leg room an NO head room for me, being 6'-4". My knees were literally IN the console panel, and that was with the seat ALL the way back, and the top of my skull was pressing against the roof. So, once again.......defeated by the 5 foots and unders. I mean, I like trucks and SUVs and all that......mainly cause I can fit in them.........but I've always wanted a sports car, but have never fit in any of them. Went to a car show where they had a Lambo on display you could sit in. I looked at it, and thought "I might get in it, but they'll have to take the damn thing apart to get me out". So I didn't even try.
hey i have one of these! can’t keep it running and plan on doing a 302 swap this winter! super clean 90K mike car! cloth interior (not tan but still pretty rare!) hopefully the 302 will let me enjoy it a little more hopefully it will spend less time broken lol
188 HP. And Starions were here. Mitsu was needing the Chrysler dealer network. Bought a leftover in '90. And the insurance was 100 bucks a month more than my payment. And you had to let the engine idle for 60 seconds before you turned it off to allow the turbo to cool.
I had a black Conquest TSI. I loved it, and then I repainted it a Camaro teal green color. It was one of the coolest cars around. The bad thing was....these cars always had some kind of problem! My mechanic loved me and my wallet. Loved the video. Actually it made me sad.
Man! That is one cool looking car even today looks great! I always loved that car! I almost bought a good used in the mid 90s, it was still in mint shape with only mid 40s miles. Boy do i regret not buying it!😎👍awesome car!
Mitsubishi was on a role during this time with the Starion, and Eclipse, 3000gt-vr-4. How times have changed things. I would like to find one in this condition, low miles and in a manual.
My dream car when I was a kid. I remember riding my bike to the local Chrysler dealership back in 1988 just to look at the widebody Tsi’s. Never did get to own one 😞 Those wheels still look sexy today
If you would have asked me what kind of car this was, i would have guessed mazda! I own a 87 grand national and have been into turbo regals and syclone/typhoons. Ive seen these, but never heard 1 word about them. The 140 horsepower explains why
