In this video I demonstrate the correct body positioning for low speed and high speed turns. www.ridelikeapro.com www.tabperformance.com www.motorcycledropguards.com / ride.like.a.pro.inc
Jerry......you keep making me practice! Thanks for that, and thanks for all the tips. The tips are great, but you have to practice them to be a better rider. You have helped me be a more confident and "in control" rider. I especially value that riding 2 up.
Jerry, Im a big guy on a Road King Classic. I was having issues completing U turns in less than 18 feet. Now I know why. Will try hanging my right cheek off the saddle from now on.😂 BTW two of my sons bought sportsters and are now learning from you as well. Thanks from one LEO to another.
Jerry, I did the safety course about a month ago but corners and slow turns still got to me. Your videos have made all the difference. I corner ok now and always hear your voice when I take them, "head and eyes..." What a difference. I just bought your course. Thanks for your great content.
Thanks so much Jerry, been watching your stuff for a few years really appreciate it. I have taken a class taught by Hawthorne PD in SoCal. Called "Ride To Live" I have always at speed leaned to the inside, to have more ground clearance so I don't drag pegs, floorboards, pipes. That style does not work in the dirt, I was spoiled with good traction. I am trying to ride like a Motor Officer, They have had a about 100 years to figure it out. I like doing the low speed work. I love one of your videos where you were talking about the guy with $30k bike and he has to duck walk it because he can't make a U-Turn. Keep up the good work, I like your sense of humor too. I’ve had my M1 for a few years. I took the MSF class, got a Honda Shadow, dropped it, and got scared of it. Recently I bought a Harley Sportster 883. Total impulse buy, but I’m determined this time to ride. Your videos have really helped me to not be intimidated by my bike. Thank you so much for your videos!
I went right to a brand new 883. You can do it. Just take your time, be patient, respect the bike and make practice a regular part of your riding schedule. I started scraping pegs with relative ease. Best of luck, nice choice of motorcycle , ride safe. 😁
Long time rider here, still learning good things from you. I recently bought a new jacket like the one you were wearing. Keeps me cool in the SoCal heat.
‘Ya gotta let the motorcycle lean’. Key there is LET. Slow speed, high speed. Unless an advanced rider, don’t believe shifting weight really comes into play. Have noticed it in myself and was just working on slow speed tight turns this morning with a friend. He was on the struggle bus. Understand the idea but just couldn’t get it to happen. Then, it hit me and I asked him….how tense do u feel and how tight are u hanging onto the bars? Response…..super tight, like death grip tight. Shared with him to loosen up…let the bike do what it WANTS to do. Huge difference for him. Airplanes wanna fly and bikes wanna lean. Don’t fight it, embrace it.
I'll will say finding that sweet spot in the friction zone on an Indian chieftain with the heavy duty clutch is the most difficult for me. Definitely enjoy these videos. Thanks
I have found. Ever since I got usest to my ride. Its exactly like riding a horse ! Now I usually use my my hips. I dont lean I feel it. Every situation is a new experience!!!!
The key, like everything in life, learn the proper technique and practice! The flaw in my slow turns was my arm reach. I have to set forward to keep both hands on the grips to get a full turn on the handlebars .
On corners i use lower body/leg to lean in and kinda correct slight adjustments with my upper body. The opposite way is dirt bike style for slow corners.
XR, V-Rod, no problem moving butt around.....wide glide w/forward controls is a bit harder, I just lean upper body....saw video of guy with taller apes than mine and mid controls was hanging off the apes canyon carving like a crotch rocket
Mr. Jerry , the more I watch you the more I practice , and what I just watch I am practicing cause I have 16" ape hangers little different , But I am not doing to bad 🕶😮
One difference between the track and the road, is the oncoming traffic. When you're making left turns, look at the outside paint stripe. You want to stay off that inside paint stripe, particularly if you're summoning your inner Rossi. Hardly a day goes by that some car idiot doesn't decide that my lane belongs to him. You don't want to be hanging over the centerline when it happens. Fortunately, the cagers are more likely to cross into our lane when we are turning right, and then we can look/dive to the far right paint stripe.
@motorman I can U turn pretty well.. where i need to improve is getting a full lock earlier. I usually can’t seem to find my confidence to lock out the bars until I am almost halfway through the turn
I have to ask. You did this video back in June. I've lived in Florida since my father moved us to Deltona Florida back in 1962. We lived in a house with no a/c and I have pictures where even my father never had a shirt on when he was in the house. How do you stand having all that leather on in this weather??
What if I am doing fairly tight turn, 40-50 kph and my boot or peg hits the ground, but I don't feel like I'm close to dropping? There are the 2 specific turns in my local hills ride where I have had this on two bikes.
Just make sure that you're not going too fast and keep those handlebars locked. The slower the speed, the tighter the turn you can make. Don't use your brakes for this tight of a turn. Keep consistent pressure on your throttle and use your clutch to control your speed. Takes a lot practice and confidence building.
Hey Jerry , I’m 64 , been riding since I was 14. My wife &I left NE Ohio for the Blue Ridge Parkway , been doing about 350 miles a day . I’ve been having all kinds of middle back pain , upper shoulders , to the point that it takes the rest of day or more to feel good again . Have you experienced this ? Any tips ?
Grow younger Have wife massage during and after ride Good seat and sitting in it correctly is major Does wife have same problems, probably not, she's sitting straight and arms down Bars putting hands shoulder height and stretched is amazing Also low pullbacks, so upper arm hangs down relaxed Backrest is nice but really not necessary The rise between front and back seat is not a backrest.....if you get your butt on that part it tilts hips forward making you arc back to stay upright.....this is a good thing Different foot positions is a must.....highway pegs......even if you're riding a tourer
You may need to adjust the handlebars...if you're reaching for the bars, adjust your bars so they come back closer to you so your arms are slightly bent at the elbow when you are sitting on the bike with hands on the bars. See if that helps with the back and shoulder pain.
Rich...go to my website, get my Ride Like a Pro experience video, either dvd or digital download. Also, my Ride Like a Pro, The Book, goes over high speed, low speed and everything in between, www.ridelikeapro.com Proper training and practice creates skilled and confident riders.
Skills. If you don't have them, you need to get them by practicing the correct 3 techniques. www.ridelikeapro.com Also, never hit your front brake when the handlebars are turned, it will bring you to the ground like a magnet. Sign up for a class or two or three, learn the techniques, master them, become the skilled and confident rider that training brings to you.
I get it. There’s nothing anyone can tell you. Get lazy on your body positions through the canyons if you want to.. you don’t have to be racing to get caught off guard. I don’t ride a Harley though.
That's not wobble. Watch any of the King of the Baggers races and you'll see that on both Indians and Harleys. In MotoGP you'll see that momentary instability on all motorcycles. It's not a defect of the bike. It's do to the riders pushing the traction limits and at times exceeding the traction limits.
Will you make a video for PASSENGERS explaining what they need to do? I can’t get it through my wife’s head. Even going straight stopping at a red light seems like a struggle when she’s on the back. 😡
Whenever I've had a passenger, I tell them not to move their body. If you're going straight, she needs to keep her head straight and looking forward. For turns, she should not lean with you. Instead, she should turn her head and look all the way through the turn.
@@rugershooter5268 heck no. I even took it back to the shop to have it looked at. (2017 ultra limited). When I take my hands of the bars, the bike leans hard left. (All compartments completely empty). They said they couldn’t find anything. I blame it on the 12” monkey bars I had them put on. I think something might be tweaked ? I bought the bike brand new so i know it was never wrecked.
@@craneguru66 sounds to me like your shop wants to sell tires and labor......do it yourself, or find a independent shop(not dealership) ...... Many Harley mechanics have set out on their own ....... Most of the multi brand dealership work on Harley, they will cost less than Harley and will be happy to fix what your Harley dealership has done Most likely your rear tire is pointed right of straight, I don't know how it is measured on your bike
I was a motor officer for 15 years, we never had the extended bags. I just purchased a 2023 SgS with the 4.5 bags. How far can we go over with these extended bags. I can hear the floorboards scraping, I just don't want to scrape the bags or have them lift me off the ground. thanks
When you hear the boards scrape, don't go any further. Try tipping the bike over while someone is watching to see how far it will go before the bags touch. Or lay it over on a towel and see where and when the touch the ground.
@@motorman857 Yeah, thought about tipping it over....I cringe doing that even though I know nothing will really happen...hahah...but yeah, I think i'm going to have someone watch me from behind and see how much room I have left when scraping. Thanks
