Watching this video for my 3rd time over the last month. I’m also a forehand dominant player and once I stopped serving pizza and started throwing a ball I easily added 50+ ft to my distance. But more importantly I’m hitting my gaps more. Thanks Scott! Hope to meet you next time you make it back to NW Washington.

I have been playing for only a year and a half at the age of 62. I was a forehand preferred Frisbee thrower from way back so when I started disc golf, a stacked two finger grip felt natural to me. I have only gotten better with it surpassing my friends with no forehand. That's what works for me. Scott, thanks for your inspiration through instruction.

Great video, thanks. It can’t get anymore clear than that. (I knew about 2 fingers, and remember your other video about arm positioning, but had not remembered about thumb positioning or disc IN hand positioning.)

Great video and helps to explain why I’ve always used 1 finger and with great success. Glad you don’t tell others that 1 finger is wrong like some say. May I add 1 thing and that’s once you have the disc gripped in your hand, hold it tight. Holding it tight was the missing link when I was starting out. I read online on a forum to hold the disc like a large dog it trying to take it from you. Bam! It all came together.

Thanks for posting!! I almost didn’t watch because my side arm isn’t the worst but hell, I guess I stumbled on a good grip already! Have a fantastic season Scott! Always been a fan, PS got your first 2 VHS tapes but missing the putting one….

Depending on the disc rim, I usually use my index finger. I do have wrist issues. I just didnlt realize *thats* why I found most of my throws work better Index finger vs 2 finger. Some rims feel better 2 finger though.

This video was a revelation! I've tried to fit two fingers so that both touch the rim but that led to less control and wobble, so I've preferred index finger throws...never thought of just putting middle finger on top. Need to try it as soon as the snow & ice melt...Thanks! edit: I also have quite stiff wrists, so that might be why I prefer 1 finger throw 🤔

My 20 month old son uses one knuckle to forehand. He gets about 30 feet. Watch out for him. Hes gonna take over.

One of the best (and most comprehensive) discussions of forehand grip I’ve seen. I just bookmarked this to use whenever people have questions about that topic.

How do you get more spin on the forehand? Only video I've seen on the topic is Uli's and testing it out with my tech disc his suggestion mostly helps with getting rid of wobble.

I was surprised when I found out most people use two fingers. I’m a solo index finger thrower and can’t do it any other way. I get ton of spin.

My sidearm is weird. I don’t put fingers in the rim but still get between 250-300 ft. Everytime I try throwing with fingers in the rim, it comes out wobbly.

How in the heck… I am curious to see this.
@BoKnowsDiddly
@BoKnowsDiddly 5 месяцев назад
@@JohnnyD5 I hang knuckle (the one near the web between the thumb and index finger) of my index finger over the edge of the rim and the knuckle near the tip over the edge as well. The middle knuckle floats freely. Then I clamp down on the top of the rim with a death grip with my thumb. I’ve built up a callous on the first knuckle mentioned that helps. I wipe my disc off with a damp microfiber towel and then dry it with a dry microfiber towel to make it more grippy. I showed this to Avery Jenkins and Simon Lizotte at a clinic the put on at the Collegiate National Championship about 10 years ago and left them scratching their heads.

@@BoKnowsDiddly dude i need to try this. do you use the same grip on shorter/touchier shots as well?

@BoKnowsDiddly

@@noah4987 yes. In fact, for short shots, I will often use a Prodigy X1 and aim way to the left because it’s super overstable and doesn’t go far before it hooks hard to the right. The only disadvantage is that a lot of plastics just aren’t grippy enough. They come out early. My favorite plastic for this throw is Prodigy 400.

Played since 99 and my sidearm is the worst part of my game. Any footwork videos?
@JohnnyD5
@JohnnyD5 5 месяцев назад
I predominantly throw forehand and my biggest tip for footing would be make it simple. Only 3 or 4 steps, figure which leg you want to start with, and once you jam the lead foot down drive the disc through just like a baseball pitcher.

Never thrown a baseball or watched it for form (always thrown balls bad), direct to some good instruction of that part as well ;)
