I always found the old party popularity/coup system hilarious. Like instead of a web of spies secretly sowing dissent in the people, I just picture it as some guy with a megaphone yelling "HEY. YOU SHOULD BE A C0MMUNIST!"
I mean, the US been messing around with other nation's governments since... Teddy at the latest I believe, and Wilson furthered that. It's just we didn't have the capability to do this globally until post-WWII.

6:45, 7:37, 11:21 I love how the "German Republic" is probably mostly just a bunch of angry Czechs... and they later reverse-Munich-Conference the entirety of Germany, Austria, and some bits of Poland EDIT: wait, I just realised, this means that Czech Kaliningrad is a thing in this timeline...
Haha, sure the good guys of the world would never coup governments they don't like and generate decades of civil unrest in poor countries leading to the death of millions Man, what a crazy alt history playthrough this was
@@averagefanenjoyer8696 Which they absolutely deserve considering it is impossible for communists to exist as peaceful neutrals, do you also take issue with community subversive actions in the US funded by China? Or is only bad when America does it?
It wouskbt be such a pain if tou didnt have to back patch the gsme caus ewhen they put oht dlcs they change the base gsme to try to force you to get the dlc by taking out options. Stellaris is one good example
I used to do this when I was too lazy to learn the new system and didn't really need the spy network for any achievements or anything. It's pretty cool once you've figured it all out though. Certainly more immersive.
There is a mod that returns both of those buttons and you can still have la resistance activated plus the garissons wouldn't be a problem at that point

Hey ISP, you should play HOI4 as America with La Resistance disabled, allowing you to exploit the old coup system! I hope this recommendation helps! :)
The first 6 or so months after La Resistance came out, I played with it disabled. I bought Hoi about 2 or 3 months before the DLC came out and was finally figuring out how to play it. Then this comes out with new mechanics and changes a bunch of stuff... The Portugese focus tree made me come back, and now I'm so used to the spy system that it'd be weird without it. I do kind of miss the coup mechanic, though🤣
