Games would be so much easier because you can just think of a button being pressed without actually having it being pressed which means you can mash buttons 100x faster than with your hands.
@@thetrollmaster4485 Yea but right now I can press 10 keys a second with extreme accuracy on a stressful moment. So, to do that with my mind, it seems to me that I would have to switch to 10 different thoughts in just one second in that stressful moment, which is ok only if neuralink is able to translate accurately 1000 thoughts per second. Your mouse is made to translate 1000 moves per second in order for you to seamlessly make 10 accurate mouse clicks in a couple moments.
Goodness me a few thousand dollars, I was holding my breath thinking he was going to say a few hundred thousand dollars or a few million, kind of relieved and simultaneously paranoid about the possibility of being hacked.
I mean, facebook has hinted before that they're working on brain computer interface devices, and I would much rather neuralink than facebook hahaha. Imagine the targeted ads and data collection of facebook with an interface directly to your brain. No thank you.
There are definitely concerns like big brother situations, also exiting for people who could use this in medical uses, Also exciting for learning i have a huge book list if this allowed me to read that faster I would be so happy, 😀😄,
Also hacking i studied cyber security for a bit no expert at all!!! But i definitely know computers can be hacked, but theres also ways to prevent attacks and put up defenses, its not doom or gloom, theres a lot of ways to make this work just a lot of hard work faliure and learning :)
@@CatsRock11000 Viruses are terrifying to me as well, we better have some top of the line security for brain implants. Think of a virus that causes the chip to stimulate the brain in a way that causes paranoid schizophrenia, and if the user doesn't pay the hacker, then they'll be left with extreme schizophrenia. Basically ransomware for a personality disorder.
@@shipwreck9146 good point yeah security and privacy are huge issues im not the best one to awnser that but i feel the concern, There will be things to work out like human Ransomeware, However we will get smarter at deealing with such issues all of the issues listed above are huge thing to be aware of for sure. However it shouldn't stop us, obviously we will fail make mistakes but we will learn and figure it out, whats cool about such a technology is that there's so much i want to read and learn so much to discover, and my time with studying and everything is limited, this will be like the internet or printing press on steroids allows us two acess and understand information at a much higher rate, obviously there's big brother issues and health concerns and you could also say addiction concerns (porn), however i believe education makes us free it teaches us about ourselves and others, im not talking about education from just school but personal education aabout life learning and growing etc, I bealive theres a lot of wisdom out there that can help people but people time is limited, so if we can make it easier to understand that would be cool, imagine someone who i ls going though finaical trouble or someones loved one passed on and there dealing with pain, how cool could it be if we could gain wisdom to help us with better habbits about life and everything, Education equals freedom, it teaches you about the world to think for yourself to love yourself and others it teaches you to be Disaplined and not impulsive, I could go into much deeper detail on things i have listed above, however i am just a student of this world im am not an expert in history the brain philosophy or anything, just a student trying to learn, again im only human i dont know everything, think for yourself do reaserch ask questions learn and bring forth ideas,
@Kane as a Christian probably not as this system can be disconnected and connected to the computer at will as such the hacking of it would be difficult. A microchip implant that has your info on it and actively sends it without your permission is what you should be worrying about
My wife has a TBI and has been hospitalized or in a nursing facility for almost 2 years now. I'm really hoping something like this can help her. Not sure when human trials will be available but praying for an opportunity for her to recover.
Elon Musk is the modern Henry Ford! I’m listening to an autobiography of Henry Ford right now and I was reminded of Elon Musk. Both are: -First Principles thinkers -Gained popularity through a race -Expanded steadily through micro improvements -Sold the most reliable and affordable car compared to competitors -Paid higher wages than his competition Etc...
Imagine if we pair the implant with a high-tech eye wearable device(Holo Lens/ Google glass) The possibilities would be endless. It is kind of scary(exciting) to imagine. I can think of a few examples. (If the wearable has the processing power of a 10x high-end PC and has properties of holo lense) * At the minimum, we could have 10+ screens floating in the air performing 10 different tasks. * The screens would pop up and close at the speed of a thought. * Our memory would take an astronomical leap. We don't have to memorize anything, I know even at present we save/store all the necessary information on note apps on our phones/PC. But the memory we save with the device would be 10x faster. I can smell Starlink seamlessly configuring with the system. * Calculations would be like breathing. Imagine having a calculator pop up at the speed of a thought? and we could do dozens of calculations of different things and throw them at the back of our head(Cloud storage). * This is probably the greatest outcome, imagine searching for info(google, etc) at the speed of a thought? and have 10+ searches going on at the speed? Whenever we have a question we could obtain the 10 best answers in the world in the blink of an eye. Education/Research/Business/Gaming almost everything could be taken to the next level. * We could develop physics apps that would give us info about let's say a ball flying through the air, we could know the trajectory, speed, landing location in real-time. I would say the difference would be like Usain bolt vs Tesla Roadster. Finally, to those who have read any VR/Gaming/Isekai novels/stories, this could be the beginning of the system/status screens.
I am quite intrigued that people here seem to be very trusting when the potential for mischief is unparalleled. You are your brain and you will put an object which will potentially have the power to influence it without you realizing it, will you still have full autonomy over your mind or will someone else simply control you ?
I can see them implanting these at at loss but selling "advertising" space. Want more people to buy your stuff? Pay for advertising that directly makes people desire it.
@@iamdave84 people already do that, take a look at the subliminal messages in ads, it goes directly to your subconscious, which in most people control 95% of what they do...
I have had severe depression for such a long time now and have never gotten better with meds or other treatments. I have Generalized depression and can not have DBS nor afford it. The only reason I haven't attempted suicide again is the hope of Neuralink's promise of treatment. This hope is the only thing keeping me alive. I simply cannot face living the rest of my life feeling this terrible anymore. I just pray my dream will come true and for the sake of others who also suffer from clinical depression. I hope someone prays for me.
@@demonh0und My boat is sinking and everyone has abandoned her. I can't save the boat anymore but if I jump off It must be for a better place and situation. I hope Neuralink can actually plug all the holes and give me new life. That would be a true miracle. These days I actually knew people who are not here anymore...some through overdoses and people say real shitty things about them when I know the world just got too dark and heavy for them. There is still such a stigma surrounding addictions and depression. My boss from my old job gassed himself in his car. He even told his ex girlfriend what he was going to do and she replied 'make sure you do it right this time'. RIP Jason Kerr. He was a good man and he was kind to me when my grandad died and I couldn't go into work for a few days due to grief as my mom was shattered. I should of been sacked from the job but he just wanted me to come into work and get it all off my chest. That is kindness but then he took his own life. After that I quit that job as there was a lot of bullying going on and bickering. I thought what is the point of working in that environment. Everything was so bleak and depressing.
The world has been very disheartening lately, at least it has been for me. However, tech is growing at an exponential rate and what seems to be coming looks amazing. It will lead us as a species to reevaluate our purpose and the meaning of being human. I cant wait.
The thing with the Lasik is an analogy, I don't think it should be perceived directly. The brain is way more complex, than the eyes. The price may fall down, but probably minimum to about $10 000 at best.
If I had mobility issues or serious brain issues I'd pay everything I had. I expect Elon's vision to come to fuition and help all those people who need it. If you're one of those people, please hang on and look forward to bright future. My heart is with you.
The price of a properly capable implant is practically a tertiary issue. If you consider the potential increase in intelligence and productivity, the cost of the implant would be made up in a very short amount of time. It's better to think about it as basically a short-term investment, rather than a standard purchase, like a smartphone.
Imagine being able to automatically solve math just by looking at it. The future is so stunning, I hope I get to see a time where were able to essentially merge with ai. If we do reach a point where everyone's minds are able to transfer thoughts almost instantaneously, then humanity would become much more similar to a hive mind. We would work together perfectly and advance incredibly fast, and everyone would know everything they want to know. But as a sacrifice, we would lose individuality. But is individuality worth saving? Individuality leads to diversity in thought, but it also causes wars, selfishness, harmful greed, racism... Honestly, I think we should take the plunge.
@@shipwreck9146 imagine craving food from a particular fast food restaurant you're about to be near, not because it's any good, but because the restaurant has an advertising deal with neuralink
@@iamdave84 That is my greatest fear with this technology. Even now, our phones listen to everything we say, and you'll get ads based on things you've said. If it's accurate, then you'll get cravings for things you see in ads. Unchecked capitalism is a disease. I'm hoping that when everyone's minds are connected, we'll gain a deeper understanding of each other's feelings, we'll realize that we are all one species, and we'll stop manipulating people for personal gain.
Now is the time we need to be discussing standards and guidelines for the creators of brain augmenting technology. If left to their own devices, profit will decide the path.
Just for reference, I had laser eye treatment from optical express in the UK. The treatment was called LASIK eye wave design and was the most advanced treatment at the time (2017) and this was £3500. Best money ever spent by far and if neuralink was a similar price then its money well spent
I had LASIK treatment back in 2003 when it was quite new here in the UK. I had 20/ 20 vision right up until my last check up at the opticians. I agree best money I ever spent. Mine was £2400 back then.
I think realistically, the most expensive you could make this implant and have it still be "affordable" to the majority of the public would be about the same as a good car, between 5 and 10 G's. It's a lot of money, but not so much that you'd spend decades saving up for it, and cheap enough you could reasonably get a loan that you can pay off later when you have the ability to learn a lifestime worth of study in mere minutes.
How would Neuralink impact ones ability to think straight? I often find my mind is clouded and my life sometimes feels like a blur. Maybe I’m just tired too often
It would totally depend on what it could do. Potentially a lot, if it could give me super senses, for example. Or even normal senses, since a couple of mine are dysfunctional.
If you can be hypnotized by speech touch and light patterns, just imagine the control someone with wires to the brain could be put under. You'd be wide open to takeover.
@@NeuraPod Just listened to your Frederic Gilbert interview (so appropriate while I paint). "Digital amnesia"-what a great term; cuts to the pith of a ideas which lots of us, I'm sure, are having.
Well if there's nothing wrong with you then of course. For someone who can't move their body before below their neck it's going to give them their life back.
Perhaps you might feel a lot different if you had some form of neurological illness that had you in its grip like Parkinson disease or ALS or some crippling disorder of the spine or if you suffered from severe chronic pain and seizures. You would probably want to be at the head of the line! It all depends on where you are sitting as to how things look.
Nerve decompression surgery for migraine is about 15k-20k which I’m getting so drilling into a skull for an implant has to be much more like deep brain stimulation because you have to drill a hole through the skull to implant the device, anything that involves the skull and peripheral nerves is always expensive so I wouldn’t agree with the price being $5000, it’ll definitely be more and insurance wouldn’t cover it even if you need it because you’re on the verge of killing yourself from pain or whatever disorder you have. I highly doubt the prices will cheap when compared to surgeries like nerve stimulators for headaches and back pain which I’d say is as equally crazy to get unless you have neurological disorders like me. Also those things that go into the brain are too short, they don’t cover every region of the brain so getting relief for people with parkonsins and extreme pain will be difficult from what I’ve heard, like the electrodes don’t go to every part, in the state the device is in, it can only stimulate one little chunk of the brain
Hey OmniversoSinDios. Just to be clear, $3k is the target price they aspire to reach. At the beginning, the price will be much much more expensive. Similar in the way Tesla originally aspired to make a $35,000 car. It took them more than a decade to achieve that goal.
society needs this device to help with treating drug addiction. if it can do this price will be cheap compared to expensive and often ineffective current methods. not full answer though as social drivers of addiction need to be adressed also
I know that neuralink is actually meant for people with brain problems at first but I can't wait to get my own chip and I'd say that the absolute max I'd spy is 10k but I think even then I'd pay higher
Have they said anything about wear and tear? Will it need to be maintained or checked on or updgraded? Could a boxer or mountain climber get one without experiencing issues? And what can I use it for without buying other stuff? Can I buy that robot arm? Can I use it as a Bluetooth headset ? Other than using it for Bluetooth I would like to find out if I can make my eyes and spine redundant so if my spinal cord gets broken I can still breathe and walk and stuff and the same goes for my eyes and ears it would be nice to have backups if something damaged my hearing or my eyesight. I also wonder about risk of being around electronics that might cause interference? I have so many questions I would love to find out if I could volunteer for
Submitting ideas or I would probably be pretty open to volunteering for human testing as long as I can be awake for procedures it takes away 90% of my worries and then I could hopefully find out if a heavy labour intensive lifestyle would cause the neuralink any issues I would love to be part of history how cool would that be?
Thanks Kurt. I should've mentioned in the video to keep in mind, it'll take a long time for them to reach maturity and achieve this level of pricing. Maybe even more than 10 years
When Elon says the Neuralink technology is built from common smartphone components, I think he was using First Principals theory when they created it. I say this because when Elon broke down the battery tech in another interview, he used the First Principals theory and there was a connection of thought when thinking about the Neuralink tech. So when you ponder if First Principals is guiding the team, I would believe that yes it is.
I'm not formally affiliated with Neuralink, so I'm not sure, but my personal opinion is that it depends how they've been affected. In most cases, I believe no, it will not, other than helping cope with pain.
Love this and all of Elons ventures I know of but from a twilight zone perspective what if the advanced robot used ur neuralink to control you lol or pull a "body snatchers".
It would. It will take a long time for the tech to mature, but hopefully within the next 10 years, they'll have something widely available for the public.
Neuralink would be so amazing.. I genuinely cannot wait to be a part of this. I’d go first if I could but I am barely able to afford to take a woman out on a date these days ha 😆 Props to the first wave !
@@JohnDoe-vf3qo probably to counteract this the wattage would be low so it won’t heat up as much, but it will increase charging time. Also I don’t think it’ll need a lot of energy to function because it is so small, so that would reduce even more the wattage needed for charging. With some more technological advances, i think it could be proven safe.
@@robertog8008 i think the commands need to fulfill its duties are soo much that with 8 hours of sleep and a small wattage wouldn’t be enough. charging anything near your head is scare because if not aligned properly can cause fires. i wouldn’t do this ever because of the ethics of it all with the safety concerns.
@@JohnDoe-vf3qo probably, But also you’re mixing things that have no correlation, the fires are due to lithium batteries not the way you charge them, and misalignment can cause heat but most of the time not fire, unless the batteries are failing as well. So, although it might seem dangerous, I don’t think it will cause too many problems except maybe some heating issues due to induction charging.
I was just thinking... on the initial reticence of people to take these. Imagine if/when they learn what parts of the brain they can stimulate to radically reduce/remove impulsive, addictive urges... alcohol, nicotine, sugar, over eating, hard drugs etc. I think most people look for a “pill” to solve their addictive problems but they don’t exist. This could become that “pill”. If it could also treat depression and other mental imbalances, what an amazing and very lucrative breakthrough.
I rather stay human, i dont know why people leave behind their humanity, to become "better". It is no conspiracy theory anymore. I think we can also have a future without becoming a cyborg without feelings and empathy.
Definitely. I could see them releasing a car that starts at $25,000. All hypothetical, but with a $5,000 tax credit, and comparing relative operating costs to an internal combustion engine car, the car would essentially cost $15,000. That would kill internal combustion engine cars so fast lol
Would probably help the bad sections in the long run. (Keep in mind I'm not formally affiliated with Neuralink in any way, so this is just my personal opinion).
Great content, so glad that there are creators helping explain that Elon it trying to bring another revolutionary cognitive enhancing service to the masses.
