The Cost Of Carbon Bows Sucks! Are They Worth It?!

Are carbon bows worth the hype? I don't think so. For the 20% increase most carbon bows cost over their aluminum brethren, I don't feel like you'r getting even a 5% increase on performance. Do you agree?

100% agree. Cost too much more and the aluminum is way tougher. Had the same thing happen to me, but with an aluminum bow.

I owned every Hoyt carbon thru the RX3, which I still own. Haven’t bought another carbon. With the pricing these days, it’s simply not justifiable to me. I am shooting aluminum from another maker now and I’m very content.

I own an rx4 and an rx7 and I enjoy both. Up here the cold will go right through your suit hold an aluminum in your lap in a stand. Just my two cents. I understand the cost is a factor but I really like the feel of my rx7. Keep up the great work. I like your content.

To some people like yourself, it’s worth the cost. I respect that, but for me and the hunting I do, its not worth it for me. Thanks for watching and following!

You should seriously change the title of your video to "The Cost of Carbon Bows Suck" because you are correct the cost of these new Carbon bows does suck. It's absolutely ridiculous, but Carbon bows do not suck. You said the same exact technology that is in the Carbon bows is also in the aluminum bows correct? So if Carbon bows suck that means aluminum bows must suck too. It's more of a personal preference thing when it comes to these new bows, are the Carbon bows worth the extra $500, probably not, but everyone likes what they like. I think all bows are overpriced for what they are, they have been for years now, but us dumbasses keep buying them, lol

Same exact thing happened to my RX3 when I let someone try and shoot my bow. Put a little JB weld on the damage and touch up the finish. The RX4 is a bad ass shooter that looks and feels awesome.

Late to this video but oh well. I bought my rx5 this year in 2022 for the same price as the new V3x. I liked both of them a lot but I fell in love with the look of the riser on the rx5. It’s absolutely gorgeous which is why I bought that over the Mathews

Yea if you can get a year or two older model on discount, then the cost of that carbon does not suck. Haha. Congrats. It’s a great shooting piece.

I shot the VTM 31 and the RX7. For me the lighter RX7 was way better and the VTM grip had more of a blocky feel on the front of the riser where the grip is. I did however like how much quieter the VTM was but the grip and the weight sold me on the RX7.

I love my Carbon Icon. Granted I haven't owned an aluminum one, but my buddy has one. Mine is lighter and warmer to the touch :) Hunting last year, I picked up his bow one cold morning and you would have to wear gloves to carry. My carbon was fine. I tend not to wear gloves while hunting. I like to feel the trigger. I haven't noticed any jumping while shooting.

I have an RX-3 right now and I’ve shot all of the RXs since the 3. I got sucked into the marketing of carbon bows when I bought the RX-3. It’s a good shooter, it shoots my 600gn arrow at 244 and it drills em. But it’s 100% not worth the extra money. They end up being minimally lighter then an aluminum bow and they are more fragile in the end. Never again will I buy a carbon bow. With that being said, I’m def more impressed with PSEs carbon bows then the Hoyts nowadays.

I agree with some on the title, it should read more like "Price for Carbon Bows Suck" or something similar. Personally, I want to be as accurate as possible, as far as possible, which for me is with more weight. That completely negates the purpose of a carbon bow. Now, if you are bare bones simple type, hike or stalk dozens of miles, etc. I can completely understand the appeal of a carbon bow. Yet, even for those guys the price isn't very appealing, even if it saves them a pound in weight. They will keep selling carbon bows so high, because people keep buying them. More power to anyone who loves carbon bows and shoots well with them, but most guys I have seen with a carbon setup, ultimately didn't seem to have gotten it for being lightweight. As they proceeded to put multiple stabilizers on them, full dovetail sights, etc. Again, more power too anyone who likes, enjoys, and can afford carbon bows, but not even those guys can say it's $500 better than the other bows.

I’ve been shooting for about 25 years, owned several aluminum bows, and 2 carbon bows - my latest being a 2018 Hoyt carbon defiant. I said I’d never go back to aluminum, but this year I wanted to do something different! I got caught up in the hype of Mathews and bought a V3X 33. My first Mathews! I was excited. 2 months later and I hate it. Haha. It’s a shooter but it’s so heavy, uncomfortable, and way to difficult to shoot consistently. I feel like I stepped back in time. I personally think that if you’re new to bows and picked up a new mathews it would be an amazing experience, but for me it kind of sucks compared to my carbon defiant. I’m going back to carbon! And Hoyt! Lol

Carbon is nothing more than a different choice. For those that choose Carbon bows in the first place they probably know what they are looking for. It's pretty much the same as the hype of mechanical keyboards a decade back. People choose mechanical keyboards for their different typing experience, customizability, DIY-friendliness etc. Do they perform better? For gamers for whom every millisecond of delay matters, yes. For most common users, heck no. Are they more durable than membrane keyboards? Heck no! I've never broken any membrane keyboard in my 25 years of life of using computers, but I had at least two keyboards that completely failed, and one that had a failed key which I fixed by soaking it in isopropyl alcohol. Just don't believe the gimmick of 50 million keystrokes of lifespan. In a word, it's only worth it when you know why you choose it.

“Carbon bows suck! I broke mine and that makes me sad. Although if Hoyt or PSE wants to give me one, I’d LOVE it!” While I agree the price hurts, which seems like your biggest argument, they’re a great bow. The cost vs benefit of products isn’t always linear which seems like you’re alluding to. It’s also clear you don’t hunt in really cold weather often. This past season was my first with the RX5 in Alberta 🇨🇦, and it was amazing compared to my previous aluminium bow. You don’t shoot with a glove on your release hand. I also don’t shoot with a glove on either hand so this is a big improvement to my overall hunting experience. Thus making the additional cost worth it(to me). Warm to the touch aside, another small perk is the weight savings. Your argument is if you want a lighter setup, I should just attach less weight/stabilizers or buy lighter gear? Isn’t a carbon bow literally what this is? Or just different lighter gear that will also cost more money but you can justify that. Nonetheless, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I don’t think a carbon bow is for everyone, or would even make a noticeable difference for some. But, it’s a great option to have and I’ll continue to use one as it fits my personal needs. Cheers
@jeffcordero_
@jeffcordero_ 2 года назад
I completely agree with you and think we can both be right. You are right in the fact that I am not doing an overwhelming about of hunting in cold or harsh climates come the winter time, unlike yourself. I believe in your case, the carbon bow does probably make sense and if that’s what you chose to use and it fills the need then that’s what you should shoot. You are correct in my biggest complaint is that the cost is not linear to performance. But a free bow… well, that would invert the graph and make the performance far outpace the price… I’m just not spending MY money on a carbon bow again. It’s not justifiable for me and my hunting applications.

For me its a little bit like - hey why people buys Iphones ??? an Actual Huawai or something makes exact the same , costs half 🤷🏻‍♂️ . So many Samples i can write but ok. The only thing that is fact - Aloy can Bend . Its irrelevant if it is 7075 , or T6 or what ever . Aloy can bend and stays in this bend form. Carbon does not Bend . Never. It holds , or brakes. For normal shooting its pointles but maybe someone like Dan hits the Bow with his truck or what ever . Aloy can bend . Carbon not. People buys this bows without any big drastic reason i think because they like it 🤷🏻‍♂️ Is it worth the money ? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Is it worth to make a Vid for - why Carbon ? 🤷🏻‍♂️😝🤣 Im jokeing - keep going your Content 👌🏼🤜🏼🤛🏼🤘🏼

Ok, here’s my 2 cents worth: Overall, in the course of our lives, what’s an extra $600? I mean, seriously. How many things do we blow $600 on over the course of a year? And the warmth of the carbon is just irreplaceable when you’re hunting. Same reason my spotting scope tripod is carbon. Not to save a few ounces. It’s so my hands aren’t holding onto a block of ice while glassing for hours. And sorry, gloves don’t protect you from that kind of cold. Trust me. Same reason I keep my bino’s in my sleeping bag or inside the house at night on the late hunts. Holding onto ice cold bino’s for long periods of time is no fun! Then there’s the subjective aesthetics. To my eye, there isn’t a better looking bow. Some bow manufacturer’s just “get it” when we are talking about looks. Hoyt is one of them. Some other manufacturer’s flagship bows sometimes just look like silly little rectangles with clownishly over-sized cams to me. And part of that is because of the properties of aluminum vs carbon, which almost no reviewers ever mention. They have to look like that because they are made of aluminum, but carbon allows for some “better”, more creative aesthetics, to my eye, because of the properties of carbon fiber. And at the end of the day, aren’t we all, as crazy bow hunters, sort of passionate? If this is a passion of yours, as it is mine, and you aren’t skipping a rent payment to gear up, seriously, don’t look at the price tag. Buy with your heart, and you won’t regret it. The RX-7 will be my second carbon bow, the first was the carbon Matrix G3, and I never regretted that purchase either, which was very expensive at the time, too. Loved that bow on every brisk or cold hunt I took it on. And even just practicing with it. Doubt I could ever go back to a metal riser bow. Hunt with what you love, it will motivate you to get out there! Just my 2-3 cents worth!

The “ Archery “ market is no different than any other market on the planet. Tried and true solid materials have been working for the masses for a very long time, and when new materials are used to “ incorporate “ into the overall usage of a product, they call it “ new tech “ or “ high tech “ giving the “ promoters, or their advertising team to come up with new ways to market the product. In contrast, to pricing, that’s where the dollars fall in place to make it seem that this product is worth the value of what otherwise be just the basic product was intended on in the first place. Not to say innovation is NOT a bad thing, but the many added processes in the making of any product will reel it’s pricey head like a “ Gimmick Addict “ and those buyers who are on the same token, are “ High tech. “ addicts tend to be drawn to each other like a drug. It can be like a “ money pit “ for those individuals who just “ have to have it “ for the sake of having it, but that’s where “ PRACTICALITY “ loooooses its value. PRACTICALITY is something that should fit the NEEDS, not the other way around. So, in essence, I use the K.I.S.S. mentality when considering anything. That’s why the “ archery market “ as a whole, is like a tinkerer’s market. Archers sometimes loooooose their practicality mindset to the “ gimmick-y “ side of this craft. And it sure as heck ain’t gonna pay them, that for sure. Keep It Simple Silly ( K.I.S.S. ) High end anything is only a ploy……... When basics will actually accomplish your mission just the same. 😎🤔👍This was well demonstrated when I saw Chris Bee, won TAC with a basic entry level bow and shot that elk, dead center….I think it was past a 100 yards ? Can’t remember the range, but nevertheless, just a basic bow set up, and won that truck. GREAT POST BROTHA 😎👍loved the content 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍K.I.S.S.
