I actually really enjoy the outfits in MK11. I get it that dudes like the big boobs popping out, but it’s really over the top in MK9. I think they did a great job of calming it down in MK11 without sacrificing the female characters’ beauty. Yes, they don’t look like sex goddesses or penthouse pets, but they really shouldn’t anyway IMO. Oh yeah, and the people complaining about sheeva being ugly…she’s a Shokan monster. What do you expect? She looked ridiculous in mk9.

@@oceanr6404 I started boxing as soon as I could walk. Started wrestling at 8, Muay Thai and jujitsu at 11. Trust me when I say that you will find a TREMENDOUS variety of body types when looking at the highest class fighters in the world today. But NOT A SINGLE one has bodybuilder style muscles. Even the guys like Ngannou who is built like a brick shit house has USABLE muscle that isn't so overwhelming as to incumber flexibility. And he is by far the biggest outlier when it comes to muscle mass of that size. Most heavyweights look like Cain Velasquez or Stipe Miocic. Light Heavyweight is actually a better weight class to look at in MMA if you want to see what I mean by variety because there is a limit to your size and so being as big as possible isn't an advantage at all like it is in heavyweight. Take a look at how differently Jiri Prochazka, Glover Texeira, Jan Blachowicz and Anthony Smith (the first three are the most recent champions and Anthony Smith is a top 10 LHW who is really well liked and fairly representative of what I would call a typical LHW mixed martial artist in terms of physique and build). These men all weigh 205 pounds at the official weigh in the day before a fight yet they have massively different body shapes. That's what I mean when I say there isn't diversity in Mortal Kombat's fighter's builds. Because there isn't a real art style in the game, they are going for hyper realistic graphics (obviously not themes or gameplay styles) and yet the fighters have like one of two or three builds. The ladies are even worse in terms of diversity of physique.

I know a lot of people in a discord server that complain about how nearly all men are overly masculine/muscular when it comes to games. So if we’re going to take the attractive appeal out of the female characters, we should do the same to male characters, no? Regardless, I’m still on the fence about this issue. NRS is just… dumb with politics in a fighting game, that was never about politics to begin with.

My problem with 9 is the huge fake boobs. I like women. I like their bodies. There's no reason to make them look like porn stars. But most women also aren't shaped like cigarettes.

Right, there should be a middle ground. Some characters like Sonya absolutely should wear attire that reflects their occupation, while the likes of Mileena should reflect their personality. I also think it's important to stay true to the characters origins. Kitana and the other female ninjas wore skin tight leopards in their first few appearances, so that is what they should look like. Sonya also wore form fitting gear, although it covered her up more in the early games than in MK9. Giving her a police vest is fine, but she doesn't need to have her cleavage on display.

Being only a fraction of a population, most of which serve as warriors because their feral nature is well-recognized, it is absolutely possible for them to be considered hideous by rest of the Outworld. Especially since, in the old canon, Tarkata were a product of human-looking people form Outworld breeding with demons of Netherealm. So even more reasons for Outworld society to show bias tworwards them.

Robocop shows a man getting blasted for a minute straight and he's somehow resurrected and is a one man army against criminals in Detroit. It's unrealistic, but you go with it because it's a part of the story. A cop vs criminals. But if WW3 was suddenly declared and Robocop was drafted, it wouldn't make sense. The problem isn't that a cybernetic cop is sent to fight in a war. The problem is that this war has nothing to do with Alex Murphy.

Yeah, it makes sense not to wear armour when the main defense is dodging. Which makes armour more of an intimidation tactic, especially when it's purely superficial. Shao Khan is the key example of this, he doesn't have any armour on his vital organs, but he still wears armour. It's an intimidation tactic, basically saying "I won't even need to avoid your attacks, it's not like you'd be able to hurt me anyway"

If you look at the sides In History with the most power and technology there was absolutely a dress code to a fight. That dress code was at one point the leading science in the world and still is to this day. And there is a degree of realism being focused on with the attention to details on the gore happening. Did you take a look at Jessica's BSAA outfit in Revelations 1 ? I love this game, but damn... So, about fighting games: yeah in Street Fighter V we still have R. I don’t really like the MKX designs of the characters and their outfits. I like MK9 the most but I really really really like Frost outfits and design in MK11. If I had to live with the MK11 outfits and designs I could easily do it MKX not so much.

I find the street fighter designs to work a bit better. Even the fanservice designs seem to be made for brawling, and more either a sports bra (Juri) or a leotard that doesn't give the opponent much to grab (Cammy)

Some of those outfits actually made sense from a combat perspective. Less to grab on to or get caught on random crap. Female Assassins wearing skimpy outfits makes sense, as they attempt to distract or otherwise seduce their opponents using their femininity. I could go on, but I think I've made my point.

@@valletas I can respect that. Skarlet has a lot of good skins, but I just can't get behind her base design. Her Assassin Skin for the mobile game, in my opinion, would have been a better base outfit, though I think my main dislike comes from the weird, dumb headdress that they gave her.

It was just woke pandering, it had nothing to do with the graphic fidelity. It's highly likely that NRS was pressured to do this by WB. Also, the only games that ever got AO ratings were games with extreme hyper violence or graphic, sexually explicit content. Mortal Kombat clearly has immunity to the violence requirement, and "sexy costumes" do not equate to graphic sexual content, so there was no reason for NRS or WB to be concerned about an AO rating. Edit: There were also other examples of woke pandering sprinkled throughout the game. Jax's arcade ending, Sheeva calling males the weaker sex, the only females that were allowed to be overtly sexy (Mileena and Sindel) also both happen to be evil, etc.
