The Czech Republic comprises Bohemia and Moravia (which is incredibly important to beer - it contains the town of Pilsn). Dachshund literally translates to Badger Hound, their long front paws were for digging out setts.
Plzeň/Pilsen isn't in Moravia, and I'm surprised none of my fellow Czechs in this thread have called you out on it before. I should know, I was born in Plzeň and currently live in Moravia, the exact opposite end of the country.

I don't know enough about the austrohungarian empire to say if any such divide existed though

Okay but the segue from defecation to vampirism around 1:10 reminded me of kappas, a Japanese swamp-dwelling monster which apparently drinks human blood... via the anus. (Since many myths arise as explanations of otherwise inexplicable phenomena, one wonders how many exsanguinated bodies with distended anuses were found in the swamps of ancient Japan.)

The medieval crane machines would obviously have employed lepers; they can't hold on to anything. So you'd have a group of men just shouting at this poor leper to pick up a live bear, all for a penny. To be fair, I'd pay to have a go at that.

Takeshi's Castle has been shown in the US under the name of MXC: Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. It's been dubbed over in English, but the scripts were entirely rewritten. It's great. Almost as great is a Famicom game developed by the eponymous Takeshi called Takeshi's Challenge. It's listed as one of the worst video games ever made (just before Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing) due primarily to its severely nonintuitive gameplay, wonky controls, and almost complete lack of premise.
Legend has it that when players called the development company asking how to get past a certain part (which was A LOT), no one who worked there would know. They'd literally tell them, "The person in charge of that part is dead."
I know that the sound effects are added in post, but it bothers me slightly every time Tom says "point" and we hear a ding without him pressing a button. My headcannon is that he actually has a foot pedal that makes the ding sound for absolutely no reason.

Here in America, we had MXC. It's not identical to Takeshi's Castle, but it's another Japanese obstacle course game show with English-language commentary played for laughs.
