Hello everyone! This was a really difficult video to create. I hope you enjoy it! If you do, please consider liking the video and subscribing to the channel! Thank you! You can subscribe by following this link: www.youtube.com/@aviationaccidents?sub_confirmation=1. Thank you for watching! ✈
Excellent video! Replaying the incident from start to finish without all the technical jargon is superb! It really gives you a sense of how quickly these accidents occur.
@@Aviationaccidents Absolutely awesome! Thanks a lot for this. You are the only channel among dozens and dozens who does that. It gives us the real feel of how quickly and how exactly it happened. Others just narrate without showing.
Deficiencies in Liao Chien-tsung's training lead to him becoming a captain on that flight. His lack of experience on the ATR 72 proved fatal. After a problem with engine number two, he ignored his ECAM and began shutting down engine 1 without the usual vocal communication between his crew. This lead to the notorious disaster that soon followed. This ultimately sealed the airline's fate a year later.
@@michaelsilveradventure5712no one is reading book with SO many irrelevant details for no reason. This dude's is a much better explanation.... hence why his comment is at the top. And yours is quite literally at the bottom. No one cared. 😂
Idk who was stupid enough to hire someone who was fired by another airline for failing initial training, for them to marginally passed the training but failed the final test, just to be promoted to Captain a month later. Like, what was the critical thinking process here?? Taiwanese never fail to amaze me in the lack of critical thinking. It's truly a talent unrivaled by any other nationality.
Ohhh, how naive you are. This happens ALL the time, and the overwhelming majority of pilots that undergo retraining to become recertificed or promoted is much larger than you’d imagine, and they go on to just fine.
He was typical of a button pusher who pushed the buttons as he was taught, but never understood what they were doing. He did not have the mental capacity to fly.
“Never should have happened” is an understatement I just don’t understand how the plane indicates engine 2 has flamed out and your reaction is to shut down your only remaining engine only 1500ft above the ground Like surely that’s just common sense
I think I remember this crash being explained by other channels and they pointed out that during the captain's training he frequently exhibited confusion with Left and Right so I believe he got his directions mixed up.
clearly, you just have never been in any similar situation... most "common sense" goes out of the window, people become extremely dumb beyond a certain stress level... the point that precipice is different by individual, but everybody has a stress event horizon when the brain switches off You'd be shocked what you would do when sh*t really hits the fan.
@@Sebastian-Westhoff exactly. Too many punch above their pay scale. This is fine if you are managing a shopping centre what’s the worst that can happen when you fail. Airline pilots, brain surgeons, radiologists have to be not academic, they have to be able to perform under extreme pressure. People need to understand their limitations the “I can do anything” belief, just isn’t true.
Gotta admit, I didnt catch it the first time, but wouldn’t cross check imply they go over each others information.. like the throttle positioning? I’m no pilot and I have no idea so genuine question
@@daska2167 Yes, it does, but in this case it's clear that no one up there was connecting what's coming out of their mouth with reality. FO says Engine #2 flameout... CLEAR AS DAY. Then the other guy proceeds to reduce the other engine.
Frankly, I think this narrator is the best narrator I've heard, hands down! I could listen to this voice for hours. Love the videos too - very high-quality, just wish there were more to binge on ;)
I agree. Air Crash channels are a dime a dozen but almost all of them narrate in a way that I can’t stand or their voice is annoying. However, this one is pleasant to listen to.
Still trying to work out if it's text to speech but they're making sure everything gets pronounced the way a human would, and they're checking for typos.
The fact that they let this guy through his training *and* quickly promoted him to captain after all those red flags is just insane. This isn't a desk job, this is flying a giant metal tube with tons of people on board. You need only the best, not a guy who failed a few times and skirted by on a make-up exam.
@@samsanderson5317 We live in an absolutely ridiculous world. Average sim player: Hmm, my speed is low, I should increase throttle and not pitch up hard and turn hard at the same time! Disaster averted. It is that easy.
i understand where u coming from saying it was pretty basic knowledge not to pull up and reduce throttle but u have to understand that they were definitely in a panic its not like sitting at home on ur ass on a flight sim. Regardless the pilots made multiple bad judgment calls.
@@Luka_2417 That is why you undergo many hours of practice for these scenarios and know what to do/not do. Idk I think not knowing to not turn off your only working engine ranks pretty high up there in dumb ways to die.
All your videos are great, an instant favourite channel of mine. I'm sure there's a reason you've done it this way round, but i preffered the style in the video about the Atlantic crossing where they glided to a landing. The whole time I didn't know what was going to happen so I was praying they were going to survive, the mystery was so gripping. In this video you're making sure that the person watching just wants to know how it played out, not what the final event was as we saw that at the start. Again great video, absolutely love your channel, I've just started creating and it's a very hard graft so to see how you've grown in a rapid time is inspiring as hell 💯
Amazing videos Air Crash Investigation ! I totally agree with him, as an avid fan of air crash investigation videos, I think it’s so much better when you are thrilled by not knowing if they’re going to make it or not! This adrenaline brought me to aviation videos 😁
I think the reason he did it like this is because most people probably remember the short video of a big plane slamming into a road in a huge city, so I think it is a good way to grip your attention right away. Otherwise I agree with you
You know what would be a great idea?putting the least experienced pilot with no idea on how to operate under pressure and with terrible results on the simulator as captain
I really appreciate the level of explanation and the fact that you actually show us the simulation of the event as well as real footage. Great job! Thank you sir for your hard work!
Really appreciate the high quality, and the fact you actually respect your viewers and dont put a million ads into your videos. I will never watch those other channels again so long as this one exists and doesnt change! :) This one in particular is so aggravating with hindsight. I understand theyre under immense pressure, but man...WHY
How'd he even get wings...........just wow. I don't want a pilot that "just passed" after failing many times, thanks. He never should have been able to fly.
Another brilliant video, respectful to the victims and just stating the facts. Very well researched and narrated making this a high quality documentary on this tragic incident.
There was a plane crash near me in the 80s. They had to divert to East Midlands airport in England due to a faulty engine. If i remember correctly, the plane crashed literally just before it reached the runway. It crashed along a grass bank along the M1, killing several and injuring lots of people. I believe they shut off the wrong engine and ended up with no engine power whatsoever. My step dad worked at the hospital at the time and was called into work when it happened
I remember this event. I saw this event on the Tv. Just disgusting bad flying. How the fk let a stressfull pilot to fly. Bad quality plane also. Just wow. I don't know what to say. Rip to the lost people and thanks for the good content! Your channel is underrated af
So, let's promote this incompetent guy and put him in charge of lives and a massively complicated machine!!! (Really appreciate your story telling and presentation! Subscribed :)
I remember seeing that dashcam video forever ago. Idk what kind of video it was but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was something like “worst accidents in human history” or “horrific dashcam footage” idk something like that. But I was just in awe, I honestly thought at first it was a photoshopped video but then I learned it was real. Still to this day the footage haunts me, just hanging out in the back of my mind 24/7
K really enjoy your video man. Can you please tell me how you make it, i mean which software do you use to make this kind of animation. Please tell me you can 🙏
There should be a summary graphic, either at the start or end (or both) that details the number of injuries/fatalities and # totals. It should also have the timeline and date.
Im speechless...........how could the pilots not know which engine had failed? Why were they banking, in a turn (that always negates lift) while low in altitude and speed?? That is basic piloting.
The ATR is so underpowered, that any pilot experiencing an engine failure would be shiting themselves big time. Shiting yourself in the flight deck leads to bad and or abrupt decisions.
12:00 wait, are you telling me that they were aware of the engine failure and still decided to drop the speed of the only functioning engine? And they all complied to that order?
Why not install video cameras in cockpit which should be put on if the pilots face difficulties in operating the plane. The ATC can guide pilots in such situations.
That's true, it happened very fast and obviously the situation was under great pressure. But no matter the circumstances, HOW does a captain shut down Engine #1 when Engine #2 is the one having issues?
I am a aircraft technician at pearson airport the most popular airport in Canada and i understand mistakes happen, i mean we are all human after all and human make mistakes its not robotic. And saying you dont make mistakes at your job, you’re literally lying to yourself everyone fucks up somewhere somehow no matter what job it is. But some mistakes like i just cant fathom idk
I thought my screen was distorted or youtube app had some issues. What garbage filter overlay is that!? Are you using that to avoid copyright infringement?
Was this the crash where some uncaring prankster notified tv news that the Captains name was We Too Low, the FO was Ho Lee Fuk and the relief pilots were Sum Ting Wong and Bang Ding Ow,making a mockery of the fact that many innocent people lost their lives in the crash?
