Houston makes me laugh! Ours are 16 and 13. When they were little they’d shout a blood curdling scream “mom” from the house while I was at the barn feeding. I’d come running thinking someone was impaled! Turns out they would want to ask something that definitely could’ve waited!! They quickly learned to wait til mom gets back. BTW, love a full freezer!

Helpful hint from a HVAC Guy, don’t let your freezer stay that empty. It will run all the time trying to stay cold. Freeze water jugs in there to help keep it cold and it will save money on your light bill. Love your videos!

It is very satisfying to fill a freezer. Our steer dressed out at about 440 lbs. Our processing fee was about $320. We had most of the oddball steaks and roasts like the 7 bone roast ground up. But I get all the bones back to make beef stock. Well worth it.

Had to laugh when you mentioned hamburger! My dad used these guys for so many years that he didn't have to make a list for them, until one year that he took a beef in for my sis and me. The owner shut down processing of our order, because' Mr B NEVER orders burger, and I'm not about to ruin his order!' . We waited an extra week for our order because dad was out of town!

Very nice video! Title definitely grabbed my attention! Appreciated all of those details broken down. A person alone doing that job would have a lot of dead animal garbage (310 pounds) just to get to "hanging weight", then would still have bone & who knows how much more to try to figure out how to correctly dispose of... Wow! Just Wow!!! Makes a processor really worth their salt/wages, etc. I appreciate them a lot more now!!!

Considering I live a long way from you and I don't think I am scheduled to do anything like that. My family started processing because local processors were dishonest. They kept some of the best cuts and replaced them with old poor cuts from other animals. After we started our own processing we started getting a lot more meat per cow.

Phil/// YOUR RIGHT,HE DIDN'T ADD IN THE COST OF FEED.I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW THE ESTIMATED COST OF THE CALF ADDED IN IF HE WOULD HAVE PURCHASED IT!!!!! I DO AGREE THAT IT'S A LOT EASIER TO TAKE IT SOMEWHERE AND HAVE IT PROCESSED!!!!! .50 A POUND IS A GOOD PRICE FOR THE ACTUAL PROCESSING.I LIKE THE WAY IT WAS PACKAGED,VACU-SEALED.
@phil.paulastocks2276
@phil.paulastocks2276 5 лет назад
@@ezrabrooks12 Agreed. 50 cents a pound is a good price for cutting and packaging, especially vacuum packaged. If Daniel would process the beef himself, he'd need at minimum a walk-in cooler and a meat bandsaw to do it right.

Me too! My brother butchered a 6 month old calf one year, it seemed pretty tough to me... It's name was Bubba.. Bubba, & his sister, Cassie were like overgrown puppies. You had to explain to visitors to never run from them, because just like puppies they would go & run with you, but were unable to stop as suddenly as you.. Meaning they would unintentionally run you over! They liked to be very close to you. (There was also a danger of being kicked if you jumped a fence in a corner of the fencing, leaving you trapped.) I remember the day of loading Cassie.. They put chains on her to try to pull her into a trailer, three men. They couldn't get her in & were struggling terribly. I went into the house & grabbed the last of the bread from a loaf. She followed me right on up & into the trailer except her back foot.. It had only taken me under 30 seconds to have her that far loaded into the trailer. They foolishly started pulling on the chains.. she pulled all of the way out.. If they had left her & I alone she would have followed me on into the trailer.. but now I was out of bread in the house. Sad.

My uncle gave us a heifer for helping him with hay last year. His neighors dogs had ran her through the fence and broke her leg. She couldnt jump in the trailer so I called the butcher shop and they gave me a number of a guy certified to do a farm kill then transport to them. If that sort of thing ever happens or you want to try and reduce the stress of transporting. That guy charged 50 dollars and he removed the head and internal organs but in Missouri things are generally cheaper.

We do our deer at home only because it's dead winter and can leave it hanging. We also grind it all into Hamburg venison sausage to make sure it's eaten every year as that way is our favorite. It is a real chore to work right hours travel another 3 hrs back n forth for $15 an hour. You are going to have to eat 2 deer per season. He also does our raised bed gardens solo and has to head to bed at 7:30pm in order to grab a shower. I have been wheelchair to bed, bed to wheelchair for the last two years and now waiting for a heart operation. Growing and also trying to eat as much grass fed is a ton of work even without the animals that you have. Thank you for wanting to for your family.

Interesting. When i process my steers here in Poland I pay around $45 for the slaughterhouse, but i pick it up in quarters and then break down the carcass and wet-age the meat myself. I also keep the hide for curing, and I keep all of the internal organs as well to make various recipes. Most interesting is the bones - I have a meat table saw and I cut the bones into 4 inch long pieces and freeze them in bags of 3 to 5 pieces. We use them as soup stock, it's super healthy and makes all soups and stews far more nutritious. it's true that i have to invest around 7 hours of my time for breaking down the carcass but with the bones and the organs I end up with significantly more in the freezer than that - I need two huge chest freezers to store half of one steer - my brother takes the other half and fills up his as well.

I would do the same thing and let the processer do the work . It's a lot of work doing what's needed . Took my deer meat to them . Just didn't want to deal with the mess . I tried 1 year and that was enough . Around here lean ground beef ( 80 - 20 ) sells around $2.79 to $2.99 a pound when it's on special which happens quite a lot . Good steak is around $10.00 lb ( rib eye , T-bone ).
