Your videos are better than most professional documentaries with very large budgets. I am so glad I found your channel. I have learned so much from you. Keep up the good work!
I was just thinking the same thing. All his vids are so beautifully shot and edited and provide great information and inspiration. Very glad to have found his channel.
Tremendous research and work on this Siloe. Holy crap the amount of work you did on animation alone. I can't even....! ha! Super informative and such a great edit.
Thanks so much Summer! I’ve always wanted to do more involved work like this, but could never quite catch enough of a break with the algorithm to make it feasible for the effort spent. So I settled with trying to feed the algorithm, watering down content for weekly uploads. Then I just gave up and said, who cares, I’ll do what I would love even if I have to post infrequently. Next thing you know I was just overcomplicating my life with this one. ;-) Anyhow thank you so much for your support today!

@@suburbanhomestead : very good choice... I don't get it how yt algo doesn't get quality instead of quantity into good account.... I have to thank you for the love and work beeing put into it
History and tips and how to....all in one video....very cool. Extra added plus was the eclectic and beautiful sprouting utensils....just so much visual eye candy for those who love old and beautiful things.
i am just at minute 2:48 and stopped to write this: i am impressed by the amount of editing, that must have been so much work. Ok back to watching the next 34 minutes ;)
Thank you. It sure did take a lot of time to make it all. But this type of contents interests me more. If I can continue to post more in this style will depend on the audience's response, if this is the type of content they cherish, value and look forward to watching. I really appreciate your response.
Finished it (several hours later, life came in the way ;) ) and it was a wonderful video. It was not just the quality of the editing/videography it was the content itself that was super enjoyable. It was so interesting from start to end. And honestly I will look at lettuce a bit different from today on :D (and maybe give it another try growing). Really excited for your upcoming videos - they will be worth the wait for sure!
It is clear the love and time put into this new format. Many times the musics and visuals produced warm loving feelings. The historical info was a great addition and I’m looking forward to the next video!
I appreciate it my friend. While centralization has its benefits, we can't forget how decentralization can empower more people, increase resilience and solve manage some deleterious effects of centralization.
Well, you've simply outdone yourself. The animation is amazing and must've taken you forever to produce. I thoroughly enjoyed the mix of narration, history and gardening tutorial - the recipe at the end is a bonus. Honesty, the quality, elegance and content of this video rivals anything I've seen on mainstream tv, such as HGTV, etc. Bravo!!! I look forward to your next video! Hope you have a happy, healthy and prosperous 2021!
Fascinating! I also love your choice of Erik Satie for background music, (he is a personal composer favorite.) Beautifully done, and as an Antiques dealer I am gratified by your practical use of old and beautiful things.
That song had just the right mood for the harvesting sequence. I like to reuse stuff and antiques can be useful and beautiful, and also reduce our production of waste.
@@suburbanhomestead you gave me ideas I would of never thought of. I would love to see a video made about your home and all the cool ways you have reused things. Super cool!
I really enjoyed this video. I was interested throughout. Your home is beautiful and I especially love the furniture, decor, and interesting implements like the dish you keep pistacchio nuts in. Sharp wardrobe selection too. I know a LOT of work went into this one and I appreciate it. I enjoy your more simple videos very much too.
What a incredible video! Gardening, informative, history, full seed to harvest. The effort put into this video is not unnoticed, the amount of time to get the footage, the animation and the camera angles, editing and script is also so well done. Bravo! Is this all done by just yourself?
This was a gorgeous video! I quite enjoy the ethnobotanical history interspersed with growing tips, and I'm going to have to emulate your seed starting teacups.
I'm sitting in my kitchen eating lettuce, and I think 'there's gotta be some cool history behind this' so I looked up history of lettuce and here I am. Day is made
So happy this got recommended to me, subscribed and asked for notifications within the first two minutes of the video and watched the whole thing. 100% my kind of content, incredible research and beautiful produce you grew!!! Going to sign up on Patreon because I would love to financially support this kind of stuff. Already have five people off the top of my head to share with! Thanks so much and I look forward to going through the other videos you have made!!
Thank you so much, Alexandra, for subscribing and for your support through Patreon. This means a lot to me, because it confirms that I should strive to make more videos in this new style, that has more in-depth research packaged in a video that I hope is enjoyable to watch. I hope you look forward to new videos that are to come.
We are loving that we’ve found you and these videos! My 4yo who really doesn’t have much to do with veggies is asking what we’re going to start inside to plant next year. 😂 (and apparently she’s tasked me with procuring teacups) Thank you.💕
@@suburbanhomestead oh but finding a way to use such pretty teacups. I love it. I have always thought they were so pretty. But not much of a tea drinker. Now I have a whole new way to use them and can by myself some at thrift stores again. Yay!
I love the new video!!!!! So great with all the great things from your house. You have such a wonderful eye for decorating and your house is so beautiful! I love the extra history.
I have always loved your level of production and creativity. I watch a number of channels but always treasure your videos... this just pushed it over the top! AWESOME job! I absolutely love everything you put into this video!!! Thank you for sharing your heart in this way!
I love this video! So beautifully illustrated and edited, filled with key information. It was so well done, I had to stop what else I was doing to watch with full attention. Well-written, personal, and very relevant to those of us trying to learn about growing. Now I need a beautiful, vintage, candy compote dish! Just got to the part when you dressed in the most gorgeous manner. Wow! That is so interesting to see your character in full flower!
Wow, thank you! I only want to make videos that call for full attention. The vlog style just doesn't interest me as much. I want my viewers to be inspired to create their own garden havens. Thank you so much for watching. I hope you will look forward to the next one, even if it takes a while.
The perfect kind of videos to watch, when you want to relax a bit, while also learning for your green thumb. Amazing work, very detailed, outstanding editing and transitions! Keep up the good work!
the editing of this video is on par with documentaries of the main t.v. networks. Incredible. Certainly keeps people with short attention spans engaged.
This was an extremely enjoyable video. Your work, patience, sense of aesthetic is greatly admired and appreciated. I absolutely loved the research and artistic endeavor that went into this production. Absolutely Great Job. The garden 'cages' are brilliant and the wardrobe adds a bit of dandy which I thought was most splendid! I am definitely an admirer from Missouri:)
I absolutely love this format. I had the video playing a few days ago while I was sowing some seeds. I just put it on again to actually watch instead of half listen. I love the artistic style of the video, the lore, the gardening tips and plant info, and the creative recipe. I watched the beet and cucumber videos, too. I look forward to more.
This format is great!!!🖤 I now see why the garden tour idea may not fit in well with the direction your channel is going. Although I'd still watch them😅 This was a lot of hard work, kudos!!!!!
Thank you! This certainly interests me way more, but it takes inordinate amounts of time to produce. That being said I may have to try out a few different formats like the garden tour because, at the end of the day it may drive more traffic, unfortunately.
I grew up on a subsistence farm. Us kids were so happy each year when lettuce was ready to harvest for 2 reasons: 1. It meant lettuce sandwiches. We ate a lot more lettuce sandwiches than salads. 2. It also meant that soon we would be eating cucumber or tomato sandwiches or a combination of those.
Gosh! Your video quality is absolutely stunning!! Besides being blown away by your editing/production, your content is educational and engaging. Excellent!
I'm a new subscriber, thanks to video on Summer's channel. I hope that your amazing work will at last be appriciated by greater audience. I believe it is one of the greatest documentaries on youtube, so much work and research came into this video. Thank you.
It is evident that plenty of research and creative thought went into this production. Catching, polished with a hint of humor. Siloe, I appreciate and thoroughly enjoyed your professional editing. But most of all - I just love watching and listening to you...
This is simply beautiful and sheer artistry-thank you for ALL the research and time you took into honestly making this a STELLAR video! This is the second video I’ve watched on your channel and can’t wait to see more. I subscribed right after watching the first video that you did on Summer’s channel. 👍🏾💕☺️
Wow, thank you! I hope you enjoy the past videos. From now on I decided to make videos with more complete storytelling, like this one. so I will be posting less often, but It will be worth the wait.
This was very interesting and well-produced! I especially like how you interspersed history and culture into the planting and gardening aspect of lettuce. It was very balanced and thoroughly enjoyable! I found you again after you had commented on an Epic Gardening video. I'm so glad you did! Greetings from Michigan! 😊
We must be related, love gardening, seeds, paint, and eat LETTUCE SANDWICHES!!! I seriously thought I was the only one! It’s my favourite and most exciting thing I grow!
Absolutely gorgeous! I love the details, illustrations and music. And I just bought the book The Curious History of Vegetables. Your videos are so much fun to watch, I look forward to the further content this year
I absolutely loved this video. I forwarded it to several family members... They loved it too! I've learned so much from watching your methods and really enjoy the way you turn gardening into a captivating story. Please continue what you're doing. Very inspiring. Thank you!
The animations are amazing. It’s top quality and worth watching for this alone. The amount of time and effort this would have taken didn’t go unnoticed
I really enjoyed everything about this video. From the history, hearing you and the Mrs. singing, to that mouth watering salad you made at the end. Bravo
Yes. I agree that your videos are award winners. Unique, classy, elegant, informative. Makes us eager for more. Quality. Class ,Elegance. Please continue.
Wow oh Wow Siloe! This video is a complete work of art; I am more than impressed with all the fantastic animation, vintage graphics, time lapse, and your very elegant and classy rooms, delicate mini greenhouse for the lettuce seeds and the vast and fascinating history of LETTUCE. I think you are a genius.... I think I have a new and wonderful appreciation of those leafy greens.
Thanks Jeri. I was sure you would like the vintage graphics. I appreciate the kind words. We'll have to do a collab some time in the future. It would be awesome to feature your great voice narrating a folk-tale in an episode.
I can't even fathom how long it took you to make this gem, Siloe. I have never wanted to grow lettuce more than I do right now. It's truly a masterpiece and will be shouting this video out on my next livestream. Wow! And I want to try your technique but I don't have a lovely covered dish like that, but you made me WISH I had one and a lovely spoon like that! Beautiful and educational film!
Thank you so much Kaye. I’m glad it inspired even a seasoned gardener like you! We should plan a collab later on in the season. Perhaps about garden design, since you’re starting afresh. I could probably integrate it in a video in this style. I’ll e-mail you when I get some free time. I’m glad you liked the more fantastical style of this one. I hope to give viewers a place worth escaping to, even if I have to post much less frequently.
That's so much the way I operate in the kitchen, and I miss having a yard to garden in. The balcony and some spaces inside are just enough to keep me sane, but it's always nice to come across another plant man.
Lettuce is my all-time favorite to grow. I have a hot house that I purchased last year and I was able to grow lettuce into the first of January this year and then it got to cold here in Iowa . I started up again in March sowing seeds.
HOW DO YOU NOT HAVE YOUR OWN NETFLIX SERIES??? My goodness, your videos are absolutely divine! I’ve been binging & I’m completely & utterly addicted! The world you create is pure magic & that spirit totally inspires me me when I’m out in my garden. Please keep up this amazing work 💚🙌🏻🌱
I’m a little late to the party, but I also enjoy the new format - and since you enjoy the process better, it seems like a win. I am working myself toward revenue streams that inspire more personal satisfaction and wholeheartedly support others doing the same! Cheers!
I was wondering to myself, "why did this man choose to feature such a mundane subject on the day he collaborated with Summer Rayne" and I almost didn't click! Then I saw pam mention how cool the video was so I thought I'd give it a shot. Im so happy I did. Wow. Amazing content. Your home is beautiful, too
Thanks for the honest feedback. I was aware how lettuce usually doesn't gather crowds around youtube :-) (it is no tomato or pepper), But I really wanted to test out this more in-depth cultural approach to the video style, and if it worked for lettuce, it could work for anything. (except maybe radish that people seem to be less inclined to). Anyhow, I'm glad you got past this first instinct, although could you tell me what other kinds of topics would you be most excited about to watch from a gardening video? It would be good for me to know.
@@suburbanhomestead I LOVE radishes! As for other videos, your style is amazing and I kept trying to see more of your home as you were walking through it. You have a knack for 'romancing the ordinary' as they say. I'd love videos on plant styling, how you built those glorious raised beds, also more recipes! The cooking segment at the end was wonderful, always looking for new salad dressing recipes. You could do videos where you pick veggies and prepare them similar to how you did here. I'm sure you'll come up with something infinitely more creative than that lol
@@amyp8162 No, need to ignore, this is good information for me, only because for the past 7 years I've been trying to understand why I can only rarely catch the algorithm's grace. So your input is valuable. What makes you want to click or not on a video is vital for me.
Probably the best video on RU-vid about how to grow lettuce. In fact, this whole channel is fantastic. The rest of RU-vid has bolted in a bad way and has gone to seed. 👍
Wow, this is such a romantic way to plant lettuce! The algorithm sent me here and I am loving this content! The graphics to tell the historical parts are really superior, but starting lettuce in a teacup - that's so divine!
Thank you for your incredible knowledge! I have been growing organically for 27 years and find you have profoundly educated me still. I also love the pastoral integrity of all you surround yourself. I too am an old soul with house, antiques, and ways, but lest in the country.
I found your channel yesterday, and boy am I happy! The production quality is amazing! I know gardening isn't everybody's hobby, but even if I didn't garden, I would still enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!
it's not every day one sees a gent in a straw skimmer with matching tie and waistcoat working on a lettuce patch. You are the first channel I have subscribed to without watching an entire video. If the opportunity presents I'd like to see more of the house interior, it's like something out of a painting
