He learned it in jail from an opponent he was arrested for having a fight with too. Imagine fighting a guy and all the sudden the state police raid the place n you guys end up cell mates teaching eachother tips
Police officers stopped filming towards the end of the Willard fight. The film was played in theaters across the country. Jack Johnson is my boxing Goat.
6 FEET TALL 200 LBS ON A SLAVE’S DIET (I’m talking about his parents). that is GIANT. imagine if he ate all the GMO/growth hormone/etc food that we eat today
@@immortaltyger1569 Jamie is Joe's lover and in order to avoid suspicion he keeps Jamie on as an assistant. If Joe does the work himself, it will look weird when we see Jamie still hanging around the studio.
Have a interview my grandfather did of Jimmy Jefferies , the man who fought Jack Johnson. only the press billed it as the last great white hope fight.. Jimmy had the greatest respect for Jack Johnson... and had not fought for maybe 5 years ... was out of shape ... got beat ...but they still would not let Jimmy give up the belt... that made Jimmy mad and he would refuse to fight for the belt ever again.. moved to LA and built a gym
To all that may concern, Please be advised message to the wise and sufficient. Pfizer and Moderna can not be sued nor be held liable. Here is proof from CNBC news I quote "You can't sue Pfizer or Moderna if you have severe Covid vaccine side effects. The government likely won't compensate you for damages either. Under the PREP Act, companies like Pfizer and Moderna have total immunity from liability if something unintentionally goes wrong with their vaccines". Contrary to what they want you to believe. "Americas Dog: Jack Johnson" Is one of my favorite images of all time. Dude liked fast cars and white women. He would be smiling at the crowd with a gold teeth while smacking dudes silly in the clinch.
The fight where Jack Johnson won the title was not broadcast but it was filmed and right before he knocked out the champion, the cops shut the camera off.
My great grandfather was Billy Dunning of Portland Maine. He fought an exhibition fight with Jack Johnson in Presque Isle Maine before he was killed in the ring in 1910 by Jack Leon. Jack & Billy worked together as lumbermen for a summer in the Millinocket woods of Maine.
I love how we’ve reached a point as a society where we hear the word broadcast and immediately google when TV became a thing because we’ve apparently completely forgotten radio was ever a thing. Hahaha
They were specifically discussing the video footage of the 1908 fight in which Jack Johnson won the world heavyweight championship from Burns. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-03MFOUgXRW4.html It wasn't being broadcast on TV or radio, telegraph was the medium used for "live" reporting of the fight around the world. The fight was being filmed and the video recording was cut off very close to the end of the fight. Yannis got it wrong when he said the broadcast was cut short, but clearly he was discussing the video footage which he has viewed. That's why they looked to see when TV broadcasts started, not because they forgot that radio existed.
I, like most of you, haven’t listened to JRE as much as I use to, since the switch to Spotify, but I will say, this episode with Yannis had my laughing out loud left and right while driving.
Brother , missing out. The only thing that’s different is can’t see comments . I was the same way. But man you can watch the video , comment on it . Just can’t see other ones
Well if you think about heavyweights now like deontay wilder 6’7 or most heavyweights in the UFC being 6’5 at least 6 foot isn’t that tall but it’s all relative I guess
"There were no steroids back then" The fact this guy had such good genetics, was a giant for the time, and could afford the perfect diet of the day, makes you wonder how he's still so much smaller than today's guys
"Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson" is the Documentary. 3.5 hours and I've watched it a few times now, it's incredible, one of my favourites. The absolute balls to do what he did at that time where even just one wrong look could get you lynched. An absolute badass that truly gave no fucks. I loved how he'd get in his fancy car and go speeding, police would pull him up, he'd ask how much is the fine then pay them double and say I'm coming back this way.
People complaining about racism in 2021 have no idea what they are talking about. Imagine what Jack Johnson went through, yet he always had a smile on his face.
You do realize race riots happened aft he won and people were subsequently lynched right? We endure just fine but we will never be complacent. I mean jack had to flee the country on jim crowe charges.
@@dolphlundgren2820 yup. It can't be the louis vs schmeling fight because at that time americans may it be black or white is rooting for louis because schmeling was (unfairly) villified as a nazi, when he doesn't hold that kind of belief.
Bro I used to watch this show religiously. To the point some of the episodes I could word for word remember the what they said. This is the first time I’ve seen this show since he moved to Texas. Hopefully I can get back in it.
@Ricardo DeMatteo no, .... I’m.... I’m black. Hahahahaha And I’m not offended, I’m a Legion Of Skanks super fan and those dudes let everything come out of their mouth 😂 I’m just simply helping this dude out.
@Ricardo DeMatteo but he didn’t say nigger though he said Nigga that’s like when you watch a movie and the actor says nigga and the subtitle says nigger how can you switch the word up and not know the difference.
It was not a broadcast but a recording of the fight that was stopped. Johnson fought the champion and was toying with him. He really could win whenever he wanted to. When he decided to end the fight they stopped recording. They did not want the world to see Johnson take the world heavyweight championship. The fight is on RU-vid if you are interested.
3:25 1909 first images transmitted. 1911 CRT TV invented, the kind used right up to the year 2000. 1928 was the first dedicated TV station. 1928 first transatlantic television signal, between London and New York. 1933 first televised boxing match.
35mph? Joe is underestimating the speed of car back then. Jack Johnson got the speeding ticket in 1938, in the same year the Mercedes-Benz W 125 set a world speed record of 269mph. You had commercially available cars that could do 140mph since 1929 (Duesenberg Model SJ).
It was prerecorded. Against Tommy Burns. Didn’t even want the footage to exist. And Johnson just got tired against Willard. No dive. Johnson died speeding away from a restaurant that wouldn’t serve him
