Anything the US Air Force builds is my favorite aircraft.

The wing leading edge is tilted up a few degrees so it generates lift during takeoff roll and doesn't need rtation.

Yeah, not like they have a stockpile of NOS wings and whatnot lying around. And supplies of H model wings are sparse as only 102 were built; one article states that 76 are in active service and 12 at the boneyard. I can account for 11 of the missing planes so the numbers are mot right.

Ummm no. The B52's in the boneyard were destroyed to comply with arms limitation treaties. Tinker has the capabilities to build these components if needed.

@@1crustyoldmsgtretired870 Ummm, no back at you. Only the B52 G Models were required to be 'removed from inventory' under "New START". I had a personal attachment to one of them, 57-6490. The H Models were limited to 76 in-service planes (58 active, 18 in reserve) and 13 in Type 1000 storage at the 309th AMARG. Plane 61-0007 (Ghost Rider) was flown to Tinker via Barksdale in 2015 after seven years in storage at AMARG. It was cleaned up and updated with all the latest whizz-bangs to replace 61-0049 after a major cockpit fire at Barksdale. That left 12 planes at AMARG until 61-0009 was recalled in 2021 to be used as a test bed for future B52 improvement programs. The fuselage and left wing were shipped to the Boeing facility at Tinker and the left wing and tail went to McFarland Research and Development in Wichita. That leaves 11 H Models remaining in AMARG. Of course you do not have to believe me and you could do some real research on the matter. I am sure that the Defense Logistics Agency would be interested in any conflicting information you might have. As for the maintenance group at Tinker having the ability to manufacture new B52 wings, I am sure they could eventually. Just as I could in my home shop if I had the time and money. Presently if a wing on a B52 needs to be replaced it is quicker and more cost effective to bring a plane out of storage as they did with Ghost Rider. It took about nine months for it to be reworked and retake its place on the flight line. Then again, if Tinker could actually build a new wing, which is the most complex part of the B52, why stop there? Building a fuselage and complete new planes would be child's play.

@@1crustyoldmsgtretired870 Not all B-52's were destroyed. A few have been restored. If you have specific information that Tinker can produce a B-52H wing and/or fuselage, I'd like to hear it.

@@1crustyoldmsgtretired870 I helped design the orighnal B-52G in 1956. In 1961 we redesigned the primary structure for SAC's more demanding usage. At that time I was Chief of Structures Technology at Boeing-Wichita. I chose the materials, analysis methods and maximum stress levels for the redesign. So I know the complexity of the manufaturing process, and I doubt Tinker has that capability. If they could produce new wings and fuselages, there would be no need to talk about the age of the planes.

In the 60's there were five Air Materiel Areas. OCAMA and SAAMA were two, Sacramento was another. Can't remember the others. I toured SAAMA and the C-5 Galaxy in 1973 as part of an industry advisory panel on structural integrity. I am 96 and it was a memorable tour.

Not over the top for an aircraft this old. Plus if my child was the pilot of one of these, I wouldn’t be complaining about over-the-top inspections.

its good to inspect your equipment at all times, you don't want to be involved in a conflict only to find out something doesn't work, and you might have to replace or scrap it in the middle of a conflict.

@@mrknotthall seems such a waste of $ and man hours for 90% of this maintenance this frequent. I would rather spend it or better and durable design of aircraft and overall army training than patching these flying coffins.
