Yeah, I remember lots of neighborhood cars from when I was 10-12. The house on the corner had an MGTD, and a Volvo p1800. Across the street was a brand new 66 GTO. 2 blocks over was a Studebaker Avanti.

Walking home I would stop at the hardware/hobby store and buy a AMT,Revell,Monogram model to assemble for the week. A car guy was born. My first car was a 62 ford fairlane sports coupe back in 1973 .It was slated to go to the crusher but I saved it .221 v8 (blown) 3 on the tree .Two friends and I pushed it to my house ,about a mile.I saved up over the summer and bought a 351 windsor with a top loader 4 spd. from a 69 Torino GT .Sold the car when I went into the Navy .Every once in a while I have a dream that it's still in the garage. Alot of good car memories from back in the late 60's and 70's. I'm 63 and trying to get back into it again. Good show.

Tom, my oldest nephew found my Granddad's 63 IH a few months ago and is restoring it. Both my nephew and I learned to drive on it. My granddad bought it new at the local IH Oldsmobile dealership for about $1,600 in early 1964 new prior year model. It is a light metallic blue step side 3 on the tree straight 6 with a manual choke with original rims and IH hubcaps. If you are ever in the Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky area let us know he is also getting his father-in-laws restored 1941 John Deere Tractor and my old S-10 which still runs and looks like new with a 5 speed manual. He has a barn with a hydraulic lift.

The lure of Coors Beer you have mentioned before. haha 1973 living in Tuscon ,playing tennis and making driving trips back to Detroit with Ford pick up,part of the bed filled with Coors and the other part filled with what would now be called "dirt weed" Good Times! Tom was lucky to get the car of his dreams back. There are so many in social media looking for the car they sold, wanting to trace it and buy it back. Sometimes the best answer they get by the current owner is a NO, but most of the time they only find out it is now in very poor condition when they see it or worse it has been parted or sent to the junk yard. That is why I still have my car or cars now from my younger years.

Our family lived in Baldwin L.I. for 4-5 months in 1969 when I was age 9. Somewhere in the neighborhood around Shubert school there was a Cord and sometimes 2 Cords parked on the street. I would sit there for a few minutes and admire them, "One day I will own a classic car." My experience pulling up to some strangers house in a nice looking classic car to inquire about one sitting in the yard hasn't been very positive. They look at yours that's running and driving and then they look at their non running junker that's been sitting for years and the price is $8,000 for a '70 Cutlass Supreme or it's not for sale at all. "$8,000 for that? What would you give me for mine?" Maybe $3,000. "Okay!" 10 years later I drive by and it's still there but sinking into the ground with rust and small trees growing around it.

Hi Tom, I got my 1939 Ford Woodie in 1964 (I was 16 years old). I inherited it indirectly from my grandfather, who bought it new in 1939. It has a 221 (1939) Flathead and a Columbia overdrive (correct numbers for 1939). The Ford script hot water heater is even stamped 1939. I moved to California in 1982 from New York State. This will be my 60th year of ownership. If you are ever in San Francisco, call and we can have dinner and enjoy some good Northern California wine.

Love the show. I am a retired design engineer, worked for the car companies in the Detroit area. We always called it an instrument panel. because it holds the instruments. Never a dash panel. The actual dash panel was on the horse and buggy to block the debris from hitting the passengers. Which then became the fire wall in a car. Why do all car guys call it a dash panel? Literally all car guys do this. Which is weird because you would think people who's life is cars would know what it is. Just rubs me wrong, like finger nails on a chalk board, and makes me cringe when I hear it.

A wonderfully charming car! And a great series to follow! It is good that someone can document all the nice stories behind the cars and the owners !!!!

The number of disappointment Ford guys in the comments makes me sad. I just love a beautiful car, which the woody is. Who cares about who made what. Truthfully I smiled seeing a LS followed by the burnout at the end. Good stuff. Great car, and thanks for sharing it with us. Cant wait to see your other vehicles some day!
