There was a time when my vampire Sim almost died from being outside for too long. When the Grim Reaper came to turn her into a ghost, my dogs (that my sims had since they were born) attacked the Grim Reaper, causing him to let my Sim live. I couldn’t believe what I was watching lmao

RIGHT? i saw bits and pieces about the sims 3 and when i played the sims 4 i thought the gameplay was pretty boring so i mostly stuck to cas or building. when i finally bought the sims 3, one of the first things my sim did was go into a randos house and immediately start a fist fight with them. i was _floored._ i did NOT tell her to go in there, i did NOT tell her to get into a fight with the dude, IN HIS OWN HOUSE, i was completely flabbergasted. immediately started playing more sims 3 and abandoned sims 4. honestly, i hope the sims 5 has the graphics of the sims 4 but the game mechanics of the sims 3. it's so much cooler to just let your sim do whatever they want and see what weird shit they do

When I was a kid, my parents didn't want me to get the nightlife expansion with the sims 2 because they felt the idea of a nightlife was "too mature". So instead, I just asked for the Sims 2 deluxe--which they got me, not knowing nightlife was built into it. So happy goth tween me got her vampires after all.

When I was a kid, I was only allowed to play the first game. I wrote my mom a letter saying I should be allowed to play Sims 2, because I know what she was worried about. “Woo hoo” is already included in Sims 1 with the heart bed in the hot date expansion MOM 😂 She couldn’t refute that. She handed me her dics 5 minutes later. I think she still has the letter!! Thanks for the memories 😂

I think that we were the last generation that was able to get away with game-tech parent(s) illiteracy, as in my folks didn't, and they still don't have a clue about technology. They lack the expertise to understand why a game may or may not be appropriate for a particular audience (eg kids, teens, vs adults etc). Even if they thought something was immature, barring simply banning computers altogether wholesale from the house they had no way of stopping either my sister, myself, or my friends from pretty much doing (or playing / watching) whatever the hell we wanted when we were younger (on the internet, when it comes to videogames, TV, movies, all of the above etc). My parents are still simply ignorant about technology. They didn't understand how parental controls work, even if they did try to use them they were super simple to crack, they had no clue about computers, how to set passwords or restrictions, or use any kind of software to stop games, porn, other kinds of illicit content. We were soo bad as kids. My friends and I started playing Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, DOOM, Quake. Wolfenstein when we were only like 13/14 in middle school, we snuck porn on the internet, gruesome real life happenstance videos like disaster vids or people getting struck by trains, cars etc. It was bad; and yet somehow we didn't turn out half bad. If you want proof that violent video games don't ACTUALLY cause violence in the real world, look no further. p.S. related to the Sims we downloaded ALL SORTS of mature auidences only content as well, if my parents only knew... lol

In real life people go from friends in preschool and wind up getting into loving adult relationships so, for me, the imaginary friend turning into a lover later in life isn't creepy. From a certain angle though I can see where it might creep some people out, because the imaginary friend can be viewed more as a sibling than something separate from blood relationships. Isn't it weird how fluid connections between people can be between different folks?

@@ChristopherSadlowski it could be kinda the fact you willed something into existence. Since you created the imaginary friend, you basically are like their parent. So you’re now marrying your “child”. There’s also the idea that it’s a fake person so besides the creepy implications of “fake humans”, you have fallen in love with a person who isn’t real and indulging in fantasy to the point to the point of delusion. Like engaging with a hallucination. Kind of like when that Japanese man married his virtual DS girlfriend. I don’t necessarily find it creepy but I can see why others can’t stomach it

The only thing that shocked me in sims 3 was that I was playing a family and suddenly a huge shadow was over my sims house, in the end it was a huge meteor that killed almost my whole family and destroyed my house…I still remember the one sim that stood outside and witnessed this tragedy.

i will never forget when i was playing with my sims 3 family on the Wii and i made my child walk to school instead of taking the bus. As she walked to school, i got a game message that she was kidnapped by some weird scientist?? My child was removed from the family and she never cane back. Safe to say I was devastated 😭

The craziest thing that's ever happened to me in the Sims 3 was I got that super rare event where in University if you let the science students dabble around long with the Group Science Experiment Object, they can accidentally cause an orbital strike on your neighborhood. My sim was just peacefully going about her day, ya' know just tryin' to earn her college degree when suddenly I got a popup notification in the upper right "Something is uncharacteristically dimming the sun, what could it be?". Next thing I look at my Sims moodlets and one is marked "orbital strike imminent", I was like OH SHIT! I'd heard about this happening before in Sims 2 but never saw it. Suffice it to say I told my Sim to leave class early and run randomly around the foothills on the edge of town. Figured if I didn't just stay in one spot the likelihood of her getting killed would be less. The asteroid came down, right in the middle of the campus, exploding over the science division. It started a bunch of fires all over randomly, space rocks were strewn all about everywhere as well as several of those really big asteroid pieces you can sometimes find in the world while watching via telescope. Everyone ran out of class and half the townies died instantly of a heart attack while charred. The other half farther away from the epicenter burned to death in like 30 sims minutes lol. Only silver lining at the end of all of it, was that many space rocks were worth alot of simoleons lol.

that shit happened to me as a kid, id left my computer on running my game accidentally because my mom was rushing us to go to the store and when i came back half of my sims were dead and there was a big hole in the fkn lawn with meteors around it lmao. sims can be brutal ;-; i didnt have uni tho it didnt exist yet, it was ambitions im pretty sure bc i was playing in twinbrook that was my favorite one back then

Fun fact: Tiberium is actually the main currency in Command and Conquer, EA's RTS game series. It spreads across the ground like a fungus and consumes nutrients from anything it contacts, including humans and animals. Hence, if your sim holds onto some for a long period of time, they get sick.

The scariest part of sims 3 is when I planted way too many trees on my lot and the leaves started falling. My maid was only racking leaves all day every day and my house was a mess. So I lined the perimeter of my lot with bonehildas and woke them up at the same time. It was amazing to see an army of bonehildas racking my leaves. But then my laptop started slowing down and eventually just shut off. It never turned back on 👻

The Visceroidal Nausea moodlet is especially creepy because in Command and Conquer, tiberium rapidly spreads across the planet causing cataclysmic damage to the planet. And your sim just dug up an entire crystal.

One of the creepiest Sims 3 moments for me was this one glitch that happened as part of story progression. I had a family that had a simbot as a part of it, and as they grew up slowly they all moved out to start their own families. One girl and the simbot remained in the original house, and because of story progression they ended up married. Weird since the robot was kinda like a nanny to her, but whatever. And because they were married, story progression had the have children…. Despite the fact that simbots cannot have a children. I think because it was I myself didn’t make them have children, the game did, that him being infertile was overlooked that result in their children. The kids looked like normal human boys, however whenever they moved they used robot animations. The only problem was, robot animations were made for an adult frame, not a child. So they would stretch (like the stretching toddler glitch) every time they moved and immediately go back to normal when they stopped. Unfortunately I stopped playing that file shortly after so I never found out what happened when they grew up, but the memory of those two kids have been haunting me ever since lmao

This is what I did with my very first imaginary friend when I first downloaded the pack. I had this whole plotline that the girl and her imaginary friend were in love since childhood and so her inventing potions since she was small was her desperate attempt to be with him while keeping it away from her dad since he couldn't see her friend and would think she was crazy if she told him. I even set this deadline that I had to make the potion to turn him human before they turned into adults or he'd be stuck as a doll forever (I'm pretty sure that's not actually a thing in the game). Then when he turned human I made him a chef because I loved the idea that he had never been able to eat food before and as soon as he was able to taste it he was in love with cooking.

The creator of the infamous haunted doll was actually a well known custom content creator named Rebecah. It's thought that the corruption was a result of some of the early modding tools for the Sims 3 being pretty scuffed, combined with the game's absolute mess of spaghetti code. There were other pieces of custom content that caused a similar issue on a smaller scale, at least from what I've heard. Rebecah is actually still active in the community to this day, and posts custom content on Affinity Sims. She's also a 70 year old great-grandmother who started making custom content when she was around 55, which is pretty badass if I do say so myself!

Also shows their picture as an old woman and the birthdate listed is in 1952. Either it's a very devoted character or an actual old woman. Either way, their content sound like it's genuinely liked.

I was so gentle with these relationships, and saw so many opportunities for them to exist in the world. I will never forget how I thought, looking at two girls kissing: I like it, it's beautiful. I played her once ! She had a ghost baby with her former husband, then turned the child into a proper human, thanks to the help of her wife (Kate Pistachio). It demanded a lot of commitment to them, but they succeeded. Then they move together to Isla Paradiso, raised their son and a dog. When Raphaël (the son) became an adult, he moved to Apaloosa Plain to raise horses. Agnes and Kate stayed in Isla Paradiso, bought a house-boat and lived a peaceful life.

So, once I created a sim with some ✨drama✨ in mind and it came out crazier than I anticipated. Without going into detail, my sim had a child with a guy, then dumped him for a girl next door and married her. So that girl became child's step mom, it was reflected in the family tree and all. The thing is, it turns out that in the case of such families if the parent that is actually related to the child dies, that link in the family tree disappears. So when my original sim died (accidentally, btw, i didn't plan this), her wife wasn't related to her child anymore. I wouldn't have found out, but the second my original sim's daughter became a young adult she started flirting with her step mom💀

Now, it scares me for both that, and also reminds me of the early news stories about COVID when it was still first spreading in China. The idea of a town being quarantined, and that being Strangetown, a place we know, and have been and played in. And how mysterious it is... so scary.

Eh, I haven't read the book, just summaries, so maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see it. The name could easily be a reference to Gothic Lolita like Izzy suggests especially since it literally almost reads that exactly, just backwards. The traits also don't make much sense to me since I thought the whole concept of Lolita was that the whole relationship is supposed to be gross and disturbing and only sensual on the adult man's side, not Lolita actually BEING sensual and seductive. Plus, she is a teen and not an adult which is kinda the whole point of the book. I also don't see how the death by electricity would fit in anywhere or even her being dead at all since Lolita doesn't die in the novel. I don't mean any of this as an attack on your theory though! I just wanted to discuss if you feel like it.

I’ve read the book and it’s kind of a stretch? Not impossible but the traits don’t fit with much of the characteristics in the lolita book and the book is actually a sort of critique of how gross the guy is for going after a literal school-girl. The thing is, I would consider it more possible if she wasn’t named Lolita GOTH, which is literally just gothic lolita. It’s possible the devs were thinking abt the book a little when they created her, but I really don’t think it’s a direct reference/parallel. Also, you’ll notice that Lolita Goth is a young adult, not a teenager or child. The girl described as lolita in the books was very much a child, no older than early high school.

Not to be "that guy", but the whole "owning land in Scotland and be a Lord/Lady" through Established Titles is dodgy. Obviously it goes without saying that you don't own the land, you're effectively sponsoring it (like you don't own the dolphin or donkey you sponsor through charities), and you can't style yourself as a Lord or Lady officially, because you're not one. They don't make that clear. It's kinda like how companies tell you you can "name a star". You can't. You're paying for a piece of paper that tells you you have, but it'll never be officially recognised. Obviously it's up to you how much that bothers you, but that should always be made clear by the company, except it never is. Also, the environment sector in Scotland has been very critical of the work Established Titles is doing (or not doing, rather) with the millions of pounds they keep in an offshore account. It's also a very culturally sensitive issue. The idea of people being able to "own" land that should be public upsets a lot of people, and it can be seen as a form of neo-colonialism. Scottish MPs and environmental experts alike have been critical of the schemes. Lots of people have styled it as a scam, because you don't own anything, you're not suddenly made a Lord, and the company isn't really doing anything with the money they're making. It's like buying an NFT, but somehow worse.

My favourite new feature of The Sims 3 was my sims *actually being able to visit eachother.* Before, you could only ever call someone over or meet them on a community lot; your sims couldn’t go to someone else’s house while you were playing their household. Being able to visit other sims just added so much realism. I don’t know why they didn’t make it a thing sooner.

@@pavladavlas - From what I understand, you can meet sims at lots in the Sims 4, but it's similar to the Sims 2 in that it involves loading screens to take you to the new zone, hop in a cab, then ~poof~ you are at a new location - in Sims 3 you could literally just walk to any other house or town location and run into any citizens along the way, or maybe in the park, or at their house - in Sims 4 you can't walk directly, you just "Appear" at the new location, and have to leave the same way.

I'd speculate that in 2 each household is a separate savefile with its own progression, and all sims are tracked on a separate file; trying to visit other households would mean loading another savefile, and these could be hardwired to controlling the sims that live there; in contrast, Sims 3 probably tracks the entire city as one savefile.

In regards to "Visceroidal Nausea" 12:34 - that's actually a not so random, reference to Command & Conquer (another very long-running, EA franchise). Tiberium is the resource spread over the world; which is harvested for monetary value, in order to build structures and units. It damages any ground units that are not protected by being in a vehicle. If a unit dies from being in a Tiberium field, they turn in to a Visceroid; which is a sort of mutated globby NPC that can attack units and structures. They can be quite hard to defeat, especially when they are allowed to grow to adult Visceroids.

One time I used cheats and did the "edit sim in create a sim" action on a raccoon because I was curious as to what would happen. To my surprise it was sent to the room where you would edit human sims, not the barn where animal sims are usually edited. This also meant that the game tried to treat it like a human and stretched it out like crazy similar to the toddler glitch. The raccoon was absolutely fucked once I left the editor as well. I was genuinely so creeped out. I do kinda love the fact that we all encountered these sinister glitches at one point or another. It adds a whole new layer of community when you realize that there are tons of people out there that share these obscure and traumatizing moments from your childhood all connected to the same game that brought you hundreds of hours of fun.

Really random, but the discussion about mummies in this game made me remember an assignment i got in my high school history classes. The assignment was to write a first person perspective of the experience one of the people that opened (aka, looted) Tutankhamen's had during that time. I picked the leader of that whole situation and basically wrote this terrifying death scene for him that had the deified spirit of Tutankhamen take revenge on him for disturbing his final rest. It was really dramatic and pretty terrifying and I think i got a pretty good grade for it. I did make use of the fabled "curse of the pharaoh" for it in a way that the dude thought it was real and it was implied in my writing that he had an hallucination before passing away from the airborne disease in the tomb. Kinda makes me want to rewrite it in a way that focuses less on mystical and supernatural stuff and more based on facts, logic and overal a more respectful way towards the ancient pharaohs.

@@arabellascomet yeah, that’s what I was thinking! It doesn’t really make sense to me to call it “grooming”, considering that in-game the doll sim will grow up with your child, implying that they are the same age. It’s definitely more of a “childhood-friends” thing, but with a supernatural twist

The identical wives thing just makes me think they're both the same woman - not clones, literally the same woman, cheating on the two friends with each other. A malfunctioning invention simply burnt the house down, killing her, and so she was never caught.

- I did have that thought, except, there are two separate graves - and there is no such thing as an "Empty Grave" in the Sims, since the gravestone was named, there were definitely two separate differently named sims linked to those two grave stones. Also, I may have imagined it, I'm too lazy to go back and check now, but I THINK I thought I saw a beauty mark on one girls face, and not one on the other, so, perhaps that is indicative of separate individuality??

It's a great theory, although I'm more partial to two theories - Harwood and Juan, Lacy and Macy are an embodiment of the classic myth of Pygmalion and Galatea, and the second theory has to do with their tattoos. Tattoos are often a symbol of hierarchy in the criminal world and belonging to some gang or mafia family, for example, all senior Racketeers have a family tattoo. Lacy and Macy also have tattoos and may have been from an enemy group that was destroyed by the Racket family

Great video!! Really love how you covered all the different creepy aspects of the game Maybe I missed it, but lore wise you forgot to mention the grave of the tragic clown who also appears in the other sims games that shows he died by drowning despite having a fear of water, truly a tragic character from start to finish I believe there's also a clown fish you can buy that has the tragic clown's face paint on, which is just so mean considering his death.

i used to renovate all of the sims houses one by one when i played. i vividly remember entering one lot and seeing an abandoned, half-finished nursery and when i saw a single old lady lived there it made me so sad. i ended up leaving her house as the only untouched one. i thought about her now and again over the years and i half convinced myself i made it up. i had no idea what her lore was until today.

Ah yes, Agnes. She was supposed to be the victim of my first female golddigger, but they have a happy time together and adopted two kids. I was never good with construction and renovation, so they left her mansion with her fiance's grave and that unfinished room and moved to another. When I played it the second time without my sim I resurrected Eric with Ambrosia

The best sims save stories always come from the perfect mix of game mechanics, AI and glitches. I had a single mum sim who would somehow glitch out around bars and get stuck on a loop making and drinking nectar while leaving her toddler on the floor. I almost got teary seeing the daughter later grow up and take on the parental role for her siblings, finally raising enough money for the household to celebrate Christmas together.

My partner had an inventor sim who went to the junk yard. A fire started, and for some reason, like, half the town was there. The game lagged a lot, and caused all of the sims who were panicking about the fire to suddenly sync up their animations, so that it looked like they were all doing a coordinated dance as the blaze grew into an inferno, causing many deaths. After the fire burned itself out, there were ash piles where all of the other sims died, which the inventor sim cleaned up. The next day, we noticed the Grim Reaper standing at the corner of the intersection near the junk yard, not moving. They seemed to be stuck there, holding up a little broken umbrella or parasol, staring at where the fire was. It should have been creepy to see them standing there, but they just sort of looked small and sad, like they couldn't complete their job. It was sort of endearing. As far as I know, they are still there to this day in that save file.

I was part of the Sims 3 community when that whole girl doll dressed virus thing was happening. It was utter chaos on those forums and everyone was panicking about it, including myself. I remember there being so much speculation on where it came from, and the fact that it looked creepy certainly didnt help matters, haha. Good times.

Since we're on the topic of Lolita Goth, I'd also like to add another, lesser known member: Rebecca Goth! I used to play the Sims 3 Console and wondered who Rebecca exactly was. Apparently, she's _likely_ the great granddaughter of Timaeus Goth aka the founder of Sugar Maple Coast, which is the neighbourhood you're in in the game. Since she's a young adult in the game and Sunset Valley's Bella's a kid, I've always thought of Rebecca as like, the 'black sheep' aunt, considering how she (and Timeaus, who's then a ghost) is the only Goth in SMC.

There's really no way to tell if Rebecca is older or younger than Bella though. There's not enough evidence to prove when the timeline of Sugar Maple Coast takes place. The game lacked descriptions that would suggest the timeline and no familiar faces are seen. The same can't be said for Sims 3 for consoles though. Malcolm Landgrabb of Sunset Valley appears in Moonlight Bay, having the same traits as he did in the PC version and his bio saying that he moved out of Sunset Valley. So Moonlight Bay would've been taken place around the same time as Sims 2 as the Sims in that game are adults or turning into elders very soon, which Malcolm will very soon become an elder when you first play the game. That's just my observations though, I'd love to hear what others think.

I never got into the lore of the game (mostly just focused on my own characters story) so I never realized there was one. The one thing I remember about the Sims 3 was the chance affects of time travel. After I time travel in the past and after I exited the machine I found a child in my household. It was funny cuz I had thought of wanting a child but had no interest of raising it from a baby to a adult but here she was already old enough for me not to worry about it.

Thank god I never saw most of this creepy stuff - my scariest moments in the sims were when they took your kids away or when a sim died suddenly hahaha. I would've been traumatized if I'd seen some of these intentional things or some of these glitches hahahah

I remember when my sims 3 file ended up glitching out while playing with island paradise; I had a wedding for two of my sims and, when it was over, everyone had left aside from one sim. He was stuck clapping and cheering for the newly weds until his unfortunate demise. I didn't know the cheats to reset him, as I had no internet back then to look it up, so I had to watch as this man cheered and cheered until Grim came to take him away. His wife and daughter even came over to visit him, too, any interactions they had with him couldn't get him unstuck, despite going through. It was heartbreaking and terrifying

One of the earliest creepy things I've noticed in my early days of playing in 3 involves the grave of the Tragic Clown in the Sunset Valley graveyard. Which wasn't what bothered me, but the fact that he's buried right next to a little girl that wears face make up that seems to reflect birthday party/clowny themes makes me think this clown and this little girl died together. They both died by drowning as well which would be an odd coincidence.

I really loved this, it really took me back. I was super into The Sims 3 and when I did my BA in English I actually wrote my final thesis on a comparison between a weird form of theatre and the strange type of life simulation voyeurism this game perfected by the whole open neighbourhood feature. (Best moment was my literature professor calmly and unironically having to tell my 65-year-old linguistics professor what the topic of my thesis was during my oral exam whilst keeping a straight face.) The fact that Simmers let the game run for ages unimpeded just to track what would happen how many percent of the time (for example, which gender one of the premade Sims' unborn baby would have) is a fascinating aspect of game design / gamer interaction to me. I loved the weird fan community around Sims 3 and how they basically exploited every last pixel of this game for their own strange devices. It was a great time and The Sims 4 sadly never captured that essence for me again. Watching this video made me want to install 3 again :-D

Weirdest thing in Sims 3 that happened to me was my young adult woman getting twins, the dad taking one home and her *trying* to take the other home but she got lost/stuck inside some building with no way out, passed of hunger, no gravestone in sight and the the 'you can't leave your baby alone, would you like to call a babysitter' notification plopping up :D
