My favourite movie of all time. Great video mate, also wasn't ready to laugh as hard as I did at 28:28. Caught me off guard and now it's a joke I think I need to use on a daily basis. :D
I know The Crow City of Angels gets a lot of hate & rightfully so but regardless of people feel about the film, the soundtrack is absolutley amazing just like the first film.
I'll never forget the line, "Caw, caw, BANG, F*ck I'm dead". My dad got the biggest kick out of that line when we first saw the Crow. The Soundtrack is still my favorite soundtrack, though there are many great ones from that era.
Definitely a formative movie and soundtrack for me. Can't count how many times I rented it before I found a cheap VHS copy. And the soundtrack was one of the first CD's I owned. Wish I still had it.
When I got this in my feed, I was like : Why am I not watching more of this guy. Oh he has 2 videos. Good job Sir, Liked and subscribed. I think you are on a good path with the material you put out.
Great video. I was 17 in '94 when I watched the Crow in theatres. What a great experience, sadly overshadowed by Lee's passing. RIP. - PS; Obsolete is a crushing epic masterpiece, I love Fear Factory.
Excellent video and I just have to say everything you said about the soundtrack albums to the songs, and the overall tone of the presentation is 110% on point! 🏆🤘🏻 great content, and awesome narration voice! You rock dude 🤘🏻
I rented this film in September 94 as well. And bought the soundtrack 2 weeks earlier. I fell in love with this movie. And the soundtrack. Oh it’s a classic.
I remember the 90's, god I'm old. I bought everything I could find with Reznor's name on it. I still have this thing knocking about in a drawer somewhere I'm sure ...
Fuck yeah man, this is the best shit on RU-vid right now. You delivery, editing, and clear love for the source material is fantastic. I subbed 2 minutes into your first video and have been checking back here every week or so since it was released. Also love the FF Obsolete shirt. The story that takes place could be a fun deep dive as well. That was such a good album and has a special place in my shriveled black heart.
So pleased that I found this channel a few days after the initial video for MM. I was kinda worried that it may have been a bit of an abandonment of things with the gap between this video. But I'm so pleased that isn't the case. Really enjoying every single bit of your work. Love the style, love the themes here. The Crow is one of my favourites. Metal head here too, so all the mentions of the music so far has got me pretty buzzed for what you've got in store! 🤘🏼 EDIT: Love the FF shirt!
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement! My goal in '24 is some semblance of a regular posting schedule, but it'll probably take a few more videos to get a rhythm going. Right now, roughly 75% of my editing time is spent watching RU-vid tutorials on how to use my editing program 🎃
So glad you're continuing these vids. I know they're a ton of a work, but totally worth it man. You're killing it! Loved this one and I'm with you on the NIN sweet spot being between Broken and TDS.
Thanks! That means a lot, I've never reviewed a film before and was worried about getting it right. If this is Crow-fan approved, then I did something kinda right :D
This soundtrack (and the movie) were huge for me when they came out. First time hearing (or know I was hearing) The Cure. First time I could listen to a Nine Inch Nails song that my parents didn't hate. Industrial was really introduced to me with My Life with the Thrill Kill Cult (though, this is the only song I liked of theirs, please let me know a recommendation if you have one!). Machines of Loving Grace would also show up on the Hackers soundtrack. Medicine was oddly not on the soundtrack, which was a shame considering it was an earworm. Thanks for diving in!
This movie evokes something inside of me that no other movie ever has. Pretty sure I contributed to an embarrassingly large percentage of the box office. SFW! Ha! Absolutely worth a watch sometime, but unlike The Crow, I definitely wouldn't call it timeless. It's probably the most Gen X movie I can recall, but I say that with a certain level of fondness Awesome work again! Quality over quantity, don't let any algorithms have you think otherwise.
Fantastic video! I was a senior in high school when THE CROW came out; my girlfriend and I must've seen it three times in the theater. Still holds up today as an example of what happens when a comic movie is done right, and your analysis of it is spot on. ...what really resonates with me in this video though is the memory of how much work it took back then to find good music. The amount of money I burned in independent record stores, Tower records, Barnes & Noble, you name it...buying entire CDs just for one song. And God forbid what you were looking for was rare! Soundtracks and compilations were a godsend; I remember going to a MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT show back in '93 and they were handing out compilation cassettes outside the venue, which included a bunch of the bands on this soundtrack like MACHINES OF LOVING GRACE and MEDICINE. I likely would have never heard either of them otherwise, especially the latter. Obviously streaming has changed everything, but nothing matches the feeling of finding that buried record store treasure. :)
Absolutely thrilled to see the notification for this! This movie was such an integral part of my young teen years. I've shared this amazing cinematic experience with my oldest 2 kids and it's now become a Halloween family tradition to watch together. As for the soundtrack... It didn't leave my Walkman for months. Great work my dude!
Really great video @Sounds Pretty Grim I was worried you’d dipped there for a while, but even if you did, you gave us a fantastic video on MM's ACSS through which has become my favourite Manson album alongside Mechanical Animals, so thank you for that. I enjoyed The Crow for what it was, it never really meant anything to me and I obviously knew about it through Brandon Lee's death on set, making it infamous and in a lot of ways, more famous than the actual movie. However I really appreciated your breakdown and thoughts on it and may even give it another watch in the near future.
Thanks so much! Yeah, this one took MUCH longer to make than I expected. I chose to do a movie instead of an album because I thought it would be "easier", but this was not the case. More stuff more often in '24, though, and thanks again for the kind words!
Originally STP submitted an unreleased song titled Only Dying. The song was supposedly replaced by Big Empty out of respect to Brandon Lee following his death. I don't know how true that is.
I believe that is true! I think it was a re-recording of one of STP's earliest demos or something, and actually I cut out a bit where I was talking about that song and RAtM's song, which is also a re-recording of one of their earliest tunes, and how that kind of thing made 1990's soundtracks important pieces for any band's catalog. But this video was already so much damned longer than I'd initially planned that I had to cut it 🎃 Thanks for watching!
I grew up with this was definitely too young to watch it, to understand the violence, and all its themes of sorrow, i watch it now being 32 and it certain scenes bring me to tears.
I loved this movie as a teenager especially as I was going through my transition into listening to rock/metal music. Been meaning to try and watch The Crow for a while again and this video has deffo got me in the mood for it! Thank you and can't wait to see more videos!
I’m fascinated by “The Crow: City of Angels” in large part because the final product was so terrible. But back in 1996, the hype in my circles was loud. The promotional material was great, the soundtrack had some good songs, the promise of a gothic romance with action was intriguing, and the trailer looked like it had a cool atmosphere. I met Vincent Perez himself at a convention as part of the promotion. The ship was sailing along fine until opening weekend, when we finally got to see it. As an aside, the novelization by Chet Williamson is pretty good. Still the same basic story, but Williamson is a good writer who makes the material work better. At least you don’t have to see the acting.
Really looking forward watching your future content, you got something good here. You have a great voice and passion that really shines, also interesting subjects so far. Pretty sure your channel will grow substantial if you continue with the quality work. Keep grinding sir.
OMG finally! (I realize I’m a little late, but I never saw the alert) I have been anticipating your next video for many months now. I started to get worried that you weren’t going to follow thru with making more content. It can be a thankless job and I understand why some content creators seem to fizzle out. Anyway, I’m so happy you released another video and I look forward for more to come.
Just an amazing presentation. Such a fun video to watch. Keep up the great work. Obviously you're a big Manson fan but how about album reviews of something Nine Inch Nails. Would love to hear your thoughts in depth!
Amazing work here, that 37 minutes flew by. I was introduced to the first film a little over a decade ago. Man, I wish I had seen it sooner. Easily one of my favorites nowadays. I did make the mistake of immediately watching the others after (as I believe they were on Netflix at the time). Yeeeaahhh.. they were all awful.
I liked City of Angels. At least I remember liking it the last time I watched it...when I was a kid. And I liked its yellow and green color palette. Maybe I need to revisit both films. PS. Is it just me or should Rob Zombie be given the helm of the Mad Max franchise by the way that script for Crow: 2037 read?
I think watching the two back-to-back may not have been the most fair thing to do, I'll admit that :D It certainly does its own thing! I would walk 500 miles to see what Rob Zombie could do with a $100M budget.
I was wondering when this was gonna come out. I almost expected it to be out a while ago... Oct 30th. lol, nvm. This works for me. Good job dood! I enjoyed your vocal voice over style
Thoroughly enjoyed your video, I still enjoy city of angels it's like the best one out of all the awfulness, I feel kind of bad also for that movie cause I know it would've been at least somewhat a mildly descent film had it not been butchered by Harvey Winstein or whatever his name is
@@SoundsPrettyGrim I instantly subscribed after your first video. I sometimes get lost in the rabbit hole of old MM videos on RU-vid. Doing talk shows or interviews. I remembered playing the whole album on my disc man while watching a high school play of Midsummer Nights Dream. What a time to be alive in the 90s. This video made me want to rewatch The Crow again!
I'm bad at all games except for Burnout 3: Takedown and wipEout XL 😀Although now that you mention it, I can think of a couple of banger game scores & soundtracks & audio chips, so it's an interesting idea... Thanks for watching!
I think I skipped "Queen of the Damned" because "The Crow: City of Angels" scared me away from sequels where they don't get the original actors back. 😊 I'm definitely going to have to check it out, though - I have the soundtrack and I have some strong nostalgia for the first movie. Thanks!
@@SoundsPrettyGrim thanks! I didn't even know that there are more parts to that movie! That soundrack is very powerful time capsule. Almost like a who is who of the alternative scene in 2001.
