Man I had goosebumps and tears in my eyes when they played the violin theme from the first Crow movie as Ashe dives into the sea to drag his son out in order to bury him.... I respect them for keeping the main theme for the character of “The Crow” the same. It’s so tragic, haunting and beautiful all at the same time. I also think City of Angels is actually not a bad movie at all. They actually did something original and different compared to the rest of the atrocities that came after it

I wholeheartedly agree. When I first saw the movie, I had no idea it would evoke so much raw emotion. Even though the first Crow movie with Brandon Lee will never be topped, I have a special place in my heart for City of Angels. Vincent Perez played Ash with so much emotion that he truly made me feel what the character was going through. Ash was so unhinged and at times downright psychotic, but I could understand why he was like that. Seeing that his son, an innocent child was about to be killed and he could do nothing to stop it. I can't imagine the pain Ash felt when he saw Kali shoot Danny and he would die knowing he couldn't save his son. Then after he is ressurected and finds his sons body and buries him. That scene just broke me. Hard for me to watch it even now after all these years and not tear up. Vincent played the character very well in my opinion and made the movie a worth while watch for me.

The original can never be topped...but I must say that the raw emotion driving Ash is much more powerful than Eric’s motivation. After rewatching this scene as a father now I can see it with different eyes now. Beautiful and heartbreaking.

Iris Shaw is another Crow avatar. I want to, with the permission of James O'Barr, rewrite her story into being her and her fiance finding out they're expecting, getting married, their car breaks down while on their honeymoon, and they are robbed and buried alive. This way it ties into two of her loved ones she is avenging.

There's a 142 Minute version of this movie that was butchered by Miramax in order to make the movie like the original. The movie woulda let the door open for Ashe to come back for more films because he got stucked in the world of the living because he went to help Sarah instead of going with his son. In the theatrical release, Judah Earl gave the order but in that cut he didn't and Ashe at that point avenged his son but sacrifice his place in heaven for love.
@SonyaOutThere
@SonyaOutThere Год назад
The only thing I ABSOLUTELY appreciate about the edited version and I hope remains if the original with all of the deleted scenes is produced is Ashe’s prioritization of and reunion with Danny at the end. If the original does not keep this edit and depicts him forsaking his son’s soul (his own child) to be with a woman instead, then I won’t like it. I don’t mind seeing Sarah’s spirit riding on and Ashe seeing it so long as he goes to be with Danny.

I wrote a reflection review about "The Crow: City of Angels" this morning. One of its misfortunes is that it had the literal impossible task of being on par or surpassing the first film. Nothing will ever top what the original conveyed in totality. I don't know if it was intentional in this scene or not. But when he's holding the dirt after burying Danny that close-up shot of his face strikes a eerie similarity to Brandon Lee. Had the first film not existed it would've probably been viewed more favorably at the time. Now many years later I've come to develop a much better appreciation for it. Very underrated and still has that beautiful emotional tone that The Crow is supposed to have.

Well written comment here.. I agree 100%. Having to follow up something which was SO culturally beloved as the first one was was really courageous and I will always admire both Pope, McDowell, and Goyer for busting their butts to make it genuinely the best movie they could. Sadly Weinstein got his hands on it and ruined it right when they were gonna turn the corner and finish it the way they wanted it. He forced it into the mess it is.. if he hadn't this movie coulda been a real groundbreaker. It woulda been one of the first really sad and tragic superhero movies.. the first one was in a way but it was more dark and had some hope at the end. This one meanwhile was extremely dire, uncomfortable visually to look at (in a well done way,) and the ending wasn't gonna be a happy one. In that time every superhero movie with the exception of Batman Returns had a happy ending.. this one's original ending was actually way sadder than Returns's was. The shooting script and novelization's ending's were a little different but at the end of both I was both extremely bummed. However both told a well done story , and with some tweaks to say casting choices and complete freedom this woulda been a classic and it woulda saved the series. Sadly we aren't allowed good things. As it is it's still a compelling and interesting watch. Vincent Perez acted his butt off and did an excellent job; it's an utter shame he wasn't allowed a career in the US because the guy was damn good. He was better than just being in France. The action's fun as well as the soundtrack and especially the score. I really enjoy Iggy Pop and Trang in their roles too. Sadly I find the rest of the supporting cast either hammy or meh.. Brooks is awful as Judah, Kirschner's really hammy, and the other two baddies are just awful. Iggy I see considered a bad pick but honestly he fit well. Again if they had picked some more experienced people and tweaked the lines a bit and included the villains's backstories from the shooting script it woulda worked so much better. But as it is I enjoy it despite all the flaws.. you can see the good movie in there that wanted out.

@@efan2012 There's an absolutely fantastic film that suffered from studio interference and unrealistic expectations from executives and critics. It's similar to how certain fans, for whatever reason, believed that future Terminator sequels without James Cameron's involvement would surpass the first two Terminator films. If I remember correctly you're absolutely right about the original intended ending for this film. According to David Goyer and the director it was a lot more tragic and depressing. My understanding is the studio literally butchered the original cut to the point that both Goyer and the director disowned the final product. "The Crow" can be reborn again with a hard hitting tragic and emotional story with more creativity. I am quite ecstatic that the remake with Jason Momoa never took off. Don't get me wrong, I like Jason Momoa as an actor and personality wise he seems like a celebrity that I'd love to hang out with. But him as Eric Draven is all kinds of wrong. How can I buy ANY violent gang members getting the jump on someone of his size without him taking at least three of them with him in the process? Very unrealistic and I am glad they decided to kill that idea. My opinion? Just do another sequel that completely retcons "Salvation" and "Wicked Prayer". A while back I remember reading these beautiful fan fiction stories encapsulated within "The Crow" mythology. They were absolutely fantastic stories written by talented people. One story I remember had the protagonist who was an African-American pregnant woman engaged to a Caucasian man, ended up being murdered by a group of white supremacists. The story wasn't beating the reader over the head with racist overtones. It was a tragic beautiful story that I read at least two to three times a day. Another one I remember was an overweight kid who fell in love and ended up getting engaged to the popular high school cheerleader, he too in the story was murdered, along with her, and was resurrected by the Skull Cowboy/Crow to avenge their deaths. One of my biggest regrets was not gaining a deeper appreciation of "The Crow: City of Angels" when it was released during its time in theaters. I was still on the whole "He's not Brandon Lee" rebellion that I didn't recognize cinematic artistry that it exists within the film.

@@annegame7682 Weinstein in general for some odd reason loved short, quick movies. If he found a movie lagged time wise he'd get pissed and forced them to cut stuff out regardless if was essential or not. This one is one of the main offences of it.. he felt the movie was too long and needed more action front and center. So more or less he forced them to turn it from a tragic baroque esque tragic superhero film into a gothic action movie.. it didn't work in contrast because the story was set up to be what Goyer wanted which was the tragic human journey. In that way Perez excelled which makes the loss of footage an utter tragedy. Dig the Hamlet comparison as well.

From the static preview image before clicking on the video, if one hasn't seen the film or read into it, one might assume the scene involves him saving some innocent young woman's life. But it actually involves him having a violent confrontation with the female villain. Heck, even the line "Hush Little Baby" might give the impression of the former rather than the latter, lol. Oh well.

There's a few different versions 1. Return to The Grave (From The first movie) 2. I'll wait for you. (From part 2) There's a couple other versions called..... Lament For A Lost Son. (At the end of the song) And I believe it's also at the end of "A Dream On The Way To Death"

The one thing, for sure, Part 2 does better than the original, for me anyway. Is it makes me feel 💔 for Ash and Danny & makes me cry for them. I feel like I should be doing that with Eric and Shelly, but I don't. Actually the only time I feel sad is for Eric and Sarah. When she runs up and hugs him, after saying I thought you cared & he says Sarah, I Do Care. I think that's the only part, that makes me feel sad & that's mostly because of the real life situation. Knowing that's not really Brandon, and she was close to him so... But yeah. There's at least 3 times I cry in part 2. This one of of those scenes, and when Danny is like, DAD!...If you give up now, we'll never be together... Then Ash shouts his sons name, Like Fuck!💔 Maybe it's just me but yeah....

One thing to think about aswell eric didn't have to burry shelly because atlasest there bodies were left were they were to be found by the police and there was someone left to rember them but ash had nobody but his son they were left to rot and be forgotten ik people don't like city of angels and it has problems but thats thanks to a decent percentage of the directors original footage being cut because unfortunately Harvey whinsteen wanted it to be more like the original im pretty sure the og script is available to read ive got a rough idea of what it was originally and yeh the first one would have still been better but this would have been a decent sequel but unfortunately a horrific pice of human garbage Harvey whinsteen had to ruin it

No. It’s not. Hurr durr it’s such a right time to be so unoriginal as a gender that our only hope in cashing in is if we steal successful characters from male creators. Shut the fuck up

@@kavalogue You are pretty fucking stupid yourself there man. Go and read some crow comics, Eric Draven is not the only crow, many people have been the Crow including a women. It's a power not unique to a individual. So there is no stealing of the character. Many people have become the Crow and that's how the author and creator(James O'Barr) wanted it to be. In fact James is the one that made the first female crow in his 3rd run back in 1996. While I don't think it would be a good idea to do Shaw at the moment, as it would be infested with a bunch of bullshit politics, I would love for her to get her chance to shine as her story was good.

It is a shame that the main villain was nothing special and a few key characters actors were lack luster ( Sarah, and the main villain to name a couple), some of the effects are just awful and the writing was sloppy in some areas; because the actor for the Crow and the music is great, the minor villains had good actors and the sets are pretty good to and the key scenes like this was shot very well. This had a lot of potential but I believe Studio interference got in the way of what could have been a great follow up.

In the original cut, Ashe gets stucked in the world of the living when his son came for him. Sarah before dying tells him that she'll wait forever for him in the afterlife. That cut hasn't yet seen the light of day. Hope someday it gets released.
