They really did a great job at mimicking their character's voices and little nuances they make in speech and body language. They sound nowhere near the characters when off-cam, especially Jason Watkins and Tobias Menzies
@Melissa jones Believe this or not, The Actual Queen wore that "worst" hat in real life. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D7zaLuA_DGI.html
I don’t get the feeling that she cares all that much about fashion so someone told her that hat was a good idea. It does seem to be a throwback to those skullcap things they wore in 14th - 15th centuries to keep warm.
Binge watched the lot...Queenie was ultra po-faced (as in real life!), Philip...just kept seeing Black Jack Randall; the QM - a bit of an interfering dotty Old Dear; Margaret...insight into why she ended up being seen as a Bon Viveur; Charles...shows him developing from being an introverted, bullied kid into heir to the throne with a mind of his own, and Princess Anne - great portrayal with the best sarcastic put down lines in the show.
Also we in Germany see "The Crown" with admiration. The excellent work of the camera people is regarded as particularly outstanding. Of course, in addition to the dignified equipment. It's these simple settings that I like so much. --> Fixed camera positions Actors act, that's all! ( like in the theatre) .... no stupid camera shake, no lurid action scenes. Wonderful. It's almost like an Akiro Kurosawa film. The music of Henry Purcell in the opening theme... stunning. Many thanks to the crew, from me, from Bavaria, Germany. Christof Ermer
The Queen’s hat for the Prince of Wales Investiture is so interesting/bizarre. It’s nearly a 100% duplicate of the original. I can’t figure out if it’s supposed to look like some kind of helmet that’s supposed to be a period piece that’s supposed to have something to do with the ceremony. If someone knows can they please explain? Thanks.
The hat. It's so bad it's good. It's almost medieval-knightish and maybe it was intentionally designed to be a nod to the ancient nature of the title of Prince of Wales...?
I saw an interview that because she is so animated in real life, more so than the queen, she has an earpiece playing the shipping news that she concentrates on so she can appear sober. I think they have overdone it a bit
There must be a contest in England for hat designers to see who can make the most hideous looking hat for the queen. If so, I'd say that hat would get 1st prize!
I have to ask. Is that some kind of Welsh ceremonial headdress or was it a fad/fashion in the 60's. I was born in the mid 60's so I don't remember it at all.
I remember watching the investiture on tv as a child with my mum and gran, and both of them giggling and muttering, "oh dear, oh dear" when the Queen was shown wearing that hat! Definitely a one-off, it was the talk of the broadcast! I don't think she wore anything that unique ever again!
Having seen the whole season I am most impressed with Josh O'Connor who truthfully captures the young Prince Charles my mother used to work for in the 1970s. All he needs is to stand up a bit straighter! I regret to say I feel Olivia Colman is miscast and looks uncomfortable as The Queen. I think the lesser known but brilliant Nicola Walker (Spooks) would have been ideal. Thank goodness Helena BC came into her own in the last episode.
What are you talking about, Olivia Colman is a perfect fit for the role! I beg to differ, in my opinion she perfectly nailed and captured the stoic yet dependable character of The Queen and Her Majesty's attitude in the 60s throughout 70s
You forget that this was over 50years ago. It was the fashion then. Im sure you're great children will look at pictures of you and ask 'what the hell is she wearing, just revolting'
