The Crucible is the final challenge in the US Marines bootcamp that recruits must complete in order to become a Marine. It’s is the culmination of 12 weeks of physical, marksmanship, firing range, and combat water survival training over 12 weeks. The Crucible consists of drills and training with 60 lbs. of gear over 48 miles within 54 hours, given only two meals and six hours total of sleep. It’s a brutal mental and physical challenge that marks a young man’s transformation into a Marine.
As part of the Midwest Marines Educator Workshop in February, WGN Radio was given rare, unbridled access to the emotional Eagle, Globe and Anchor pinning ceremony atop the Reaper, the steep 700 ft-tall mountain that signifies the accomplishment of the Crucible.
Join WGN Radio in celebrating Memorial Day and watch the entire Marine Week series at wgnradio.com.

Glenn Stockley isn't interesting the amount of time and training the Marines put in just on rescuing a downed pilots. Even after what you say and putting all that aside, The Marines put in specially trained marines that risk their lives under attack to save Schmucks like you. Your living proof that only the good die during conflicts. What a Schmuck you are. Obviously you were never in the Air Force or any other armed service. anyone that's been in the Air Force that has flown under fire rescuing marines would never make a comment like that. hiking to the warrior's breakfast was the hardest part of the crucible
@religionofhutchism3836
@religionofhutchism3836 7 лет назад
Yuqi Bai damn right, lol. I was so hungry and our Drill Instructors said eat up. At that time we still only got our Tan MCMAP belts on top of the Reaper back in '01. We didn't get our EGA till family day, which was great, as it was in front of my wife and youngest child. I do like the fact that they changed it so these recruits get it at the top of the Reaper, it makes them feel more accomplished and get a little extra time with the DIs as Marines themselves. Anyway, our kill hat got us back after the warrior breakfast and quarterdecked us until some of us threw our breakfast back up. It was glorious, I tell ya! It is mighty cool that they changed it to the same a Paris Island after the crucible. Semper Fi, Marine.

What I (being old and female, but very thankful for you all) cannot understand ( can't even watch this dry eyed) is why you want to be a marine knowing life will never be the same for you and it will be the the hardest thing you will ever do, and yet you volunteered! In WWII ( I said I was old) they were drafted, but you all are different! I personally stop and thank every servicemen I see, so THANKS TO ALL CURRENTLY SERVING TO DEFEND OUR FREEDOM, AND THE SAME GRATITUDE TO ALL WHO HAVE IN THE PAST!

With respect, in WWII, most Marines were not drafted. Draftees in the USMC during WWII were looked down on until they proved themselves. Marines are a different breed. Much of the ethos of the Corps is instilled during Boot Camp and then are solidified by the Crucible. The value of the EGA, that it is EARNED, is exemplified by the struggle of the Crucible. Couldn't be prouder of my two Marine sons. Wish I had done it, myself.

We went to San Diego MCRD for my sons graduation Sept 13, 2019. On family day, my son handed me his emblem and told me this is for you. As a father I was taken back and was speechless. I tried to be emotionally strong in front of my new Marine but couldn't help to tear up. After seeing this video, I can only imagine the price he and many recruits paid through boot camp and through the crucible. It is such an honor to have a Marine in the family. When we came home for his 10 day leave I showed him this video and he said yes that's exactly what it was like. Thank you to all those serving.

If you think you can or if you think you can't do something at boot camp, just do it and try it. If we are telling you to do it, you probably can. 3. Move fast. 4. When we tell you to fucking SCREAM, fucking SCREAM until your voice goes to shit. 5. Do not give up. If you want the title of Marine, or DI, or MARSOC Raider, or whatever, you won't give up.

I don't know what it is to be a U.S. Marine and odds are, I never will. Up until the day I got my black belt in American Kenpo Karate, I never understood the value of true hard work. The night I got my black belt, it finally dawned to me, it hit me like a brick and I couldn't hold back that tingling going down my spine as I reflected at home with my black belt in hand holding it like a new born baby. I wonder sometimes if it is the same thing for a Marine.
