A great live show??? They were the absolute worst I've ever seen and I've seen a ton. They sounded great, but Ian walked out, held his mic stand like Jim Morrison and never moved until he walked off at the end. He didn't address the crowd once, and appeared like he didn't want to be there...

I’m a fan from Southern Death Cult to Death Cult…up to The Cult, Electric album. After that, with whatever the bands issues were, they’ve only produced a bunch of half ass albums, full of drivel.

@@dennis8309 In no way disputing this. I've heard people say much the same thing about Smashing Pumpkins, yet both of these bands are favourites of mine, and I've seen neither of them live. Sometimes I wonder if certain folks are just slated to never get a good show from certain bands or something. Thank goodness for the good ones we *have* seen. Ian Astbury has a very powerful voice with a strong vibrato at the end of each verse he delivers. He has a very broad forehead and face that reminds me of Charles Bronson. And yet he can look like a pretty girl when he wears makeup. And his footwork is incredible. He's also one of the most articulate and insightful artists I've ever heard. They're still playing She Sell Sanctuary on the FM radio stations after it was released 43 years ago so while they may be underrated, they'll never be outdated.

I have been into The Cult since I was a teenager circa mid-late 80's up till today. I seen them live at Milwaukee Summerfest on July 9, 2022 and they can still rock out. I even got my husband into The Cult! Ian's voice is a little gruff but he's been singing a long time and he had just gotten out of a mental health facility just 2 weeks prior. Billy is still in top form, plays his guitars flawlessly. I wish they would clarify that Ian is NOT Native American, he is British and Scottish. He does believe in native spirituality very much and there is nothing wrong with that because that spirituality keeps one grounded and centered which probably saved his life. I love their older songs so much but I do have their new album Under The Midnight Sun. Its very different but still beautiful in its own way. They are much older and wiser now so the music reflects a different time in their lives just as all of us are getting older and at different times in our lives. They are evolving just as many older bands are.

You have got it pretty well covered without going over old ground, going back to the early days in the UK..you need to pay some attention to the latest album. It is the best thing to be written by them, possibly...dare I say EVER, no fillers no overrated producers pulling strings. Every song is rooted firmly in the past and present, and is worthy of headphones and quality time. I haven't felt that need for a couple of decades. It is The Cult on form!

I was less than unimpressed with Sonic Temple and I think the last album I tried was Ceremony? From a super Cult die-hard from God's Zoo/Resurrection to vaguely 88 I loved them. Didn't really listen to any album between Temple and Ceremony more than a handful of times. Can you convince a dude who bled the Dreamtime-Love-Electric period to come back with a little more explicit reasoning? Sincerely, Jaded Ghost Dancer of Jaime Stewart, Preston, Brzezicki, and Warner

I first saw the Cult as a teenager when they were Southern Death Cult while at the same time following Theatre of Hate. I still enjoy the music of both bands, even though I am in my 50s, and have introduced a number of 'youngsters' to their music. Both were great bands to watch perform live.

True story, I was Drag Racing at Houston Raceway Park in the late 90’s. I was very successful and as I won and went back to the Staging Lanes, this Song She Sells Sanctuary would play in my head! Going Round after Round with This Song! Brings me such Sanctuary to Drag Racing! Always! Still listen to them, especially Sanctuary even now.

Having met Ian many years ago and being an instrumentalist I still identified with what he and the band have done. A very powerful group without using a bunch of Distortion to do it. Not easily done . And the law Suite was bullshit.

Good video. I always loved The Cult, even though they could really never maintain their early success. But they were so original and different and road and recorded some really great songs. By the way, in 2007 they had a great comeback single with "Dirty Little Rockstar." That song has always been so underrated. I love "She Sells Sanctuary," "Love Removal Machine," "Wild Flower," "Fire Woman," "Sun King," and "Sweet Soul Sister," But in my opinion the greatest song they ever did was the deep, dramatic, powerful, hauntingly beautiful "Edie (Ciao Baby)." That song is an absolute masterpiece, honestly one of the greatest songs of all-time, and I 100% agree with Ian Asbury on that it should have easily been a Top 10 hit.

They might well be the first band for me, too. I'm not sure so I can't hold it against them. Me, dancing, isn't something other people should have to put up with, but time to time it just seems to all go wrong + I'm powerless to prevent it. That's no excuse, excessive alcohol isn't, either, but it's certainly a factor. I'm sorry, I want people to know that, God knows I'm sorry..........

'Whatever happened...?' Uh, they never left; they continue to be on tour, regularly; they release albums with novel experiments in psychedelic post-punk/post-gothic rock. Nothing 'happened' to the **band** ; it's just that some old fans have been distracted and aren't following their career any longer! Others, however, remain faithful; and the most fanatic fans believe that the best album is always the _next_ one - because you cannot predict what The Cult will come up with next!

I was in my twenties listening to The Cult pushed my way through heavy industrial work surrounded by frozen Cow Hides, blooded Salt Brine, and when I was not building Salt Packed Hides I was operating Forklifts and Bobcat loaders. The Cult’s Ian Astbury voice and Duffy’s powering riffs and bends risen my adrenaline and pushing me through another eight hour day. The Cult was there in the eighties for people like me! Too bad they were having troubles, musically. Ian Astbury voice was powerful.

Excellent stuff !! I discovered the Cult working in a Chart House San Francisco restaurant in 1988, having arrived from Europe. The sound is great, at the time, I couldn't appreciate the Punk techno wave. A good friend of mine now listens to every album riding his Harley Davidson going around Switzerland. Thanks for the detail, ie that one of their album was recorded in the Electric Ladyland studio ... and the producers who gave the impulse for things to happen.

Impeccable discography. They did gothic & a MONUMENTAL album like "Love" as a result and soon after furious hard rock gems like "Electric", "Sonic Temple" and the MINDBLOWING and terribly ignored "Ceremony" which I saw them on that Tour and they were phenomenal as always. The rest it´s history: until now they never stopped doing great stuff. Even the "alternative" "The Cult" is impressive.

Ian Astbury is one of the most underrated & misunderstood characters in rock music. He & Billy Duffy contributions have made a gargantuan impact on my life & my level of appreciation for them, deep. It's interesting to see how upon their initial exploration into the music of the 1960's, they were literally attacked for it. Not that I condone violence - but it goes to show just how utterly passionate people were about art 25-45 years ago. I'm sure that Astbury was displeased but also understood where it was coming from. Forever thankful for their pioneer merging of genres that are beloved to me & the long legacy of great work in their wake. The Cult forever 🖤🖤🖤
