Crank That was such a bubblegum pop rap type of song outside of a few lines that his primary audience was white suburbia and pop radio, which made it damn near impossible for him to be taken seriously later. The kid was dancing to it on Ellen FFS. If he'd never released Crank That he wouldn't have gotten as big but he likely could have enjoyed a slow climb and be given more respect now.

Because his music is bad. In the grand scheme of things growing through social media was going to be a thing with or without Soulja boy youtube was going to be the next big thing with or without Soulja boy. So artists were going to be on it with or without Soulja boy. And MySpace was originally supposed to be for musical artists and bands to post their music so obviously that would have been done with or without Soulja boy too. As someone who actually lived through it as a teenager and not a child I can tell you Soulja boy didn't have as big of an influence as everybody thinks. Yea crank that blew up for a summer and people made different versions but that's where his influence in music truly starts and ends and it was a horrible 1. All those songs were awful
