I believe in mcleodgaming. This game is going to be absolutely incredible by release so I'm going to keep doing what I can to support the community we have now, as well as in the future by putting out custom content.

Yeah, since the game's early access release, they haven't really brought new content. Only new animations, and fixes so far, which would make the game come off pretty boring pretty to many fast after a 1 1/2 months time. But I still won't give up on the game. It has much potential, and making custom content is fun and inspiring. Also, there's still a lot to look forward to when it comes to fficial content.

I feel like Fraymakers is going to get that smash effect of players wanting specific characters to be in the game only to be disappointed that they're an assist, I mean they put a lot of indie characters on their store page and for me specifically when I saw Lea from Crosscode on that front page I thought she was a playable character and not an assist, assists are neat but I do feel like it can make fans of that assist be a bit sad that their character isn't a fully playable one. Maybe better marketing to how they present the characters that are included in Fraymakers?

What is really killing the game right now is the price for an early access game. 30 bucks for a game that has less content than most games on the Game Boy, is absolutely absurd... I don't hate fraymakers, but that price is actually horrible for what you actually get. Rivals us 20 dollars on most sales, and even if you get the game for about 40 dollars, you still get everything with the custom content, and an actual finished video game to go along with those mods.

My biggest problem with the game is that it always crashes because I have to many Mods. Which you could say is my fault but it works in Rivals of Aether fine. I like just having a big collection of Fan made content if possible and than to Show it all of to my friends what a amazing Community the Game(s) have. In Fraymakers I cant and I deleted already all custom content and acces most of them again because an Update caused Problem, but it already crashing again. I hope they fix this issue as soon as possible.

It's in early access dude. The dev team is 5 people. It's gonna take awhile to get more content. Frankly speaking, the thing that Gregory McLeod should do is hire more people to work on the game or ask if people from the SSF2 team would be willing to move over to Fraymakers, and pay them for it.

Honestly, I kinda expected this to happen. There seems to this curse with Platform Fighters as of late with this cycle that has been going on for the past two years where as following: A new Platform Fighter comes out that gets everyone’s attention. Everyone hypes it up to hell 'n back like if it’s Demon Slayer (Also I’m not trying to trash on Demon Slayer or anything, I’m just using it as an example.). The game comes out and receives a mixed reception. The player base dies and everyone goes back to playing Smash Bros. It happened with Nickelodeon All Star Brawl, it happened with Multiverses, but if I got to honest I was hoping this wouldn’t happen with Fraymakers. Not only did the team working on it had experience with Platform Fighters (Super Smash Flash 2 in my opinion, is the only Platform Fighter that came neck to neck to what made Smash Bros great.) but also, unlike the other two games I’ve mentioned where they most likely became the way they were because the publishers forced the devs to rush them out, Fraymakers was fully indie meaning they could’ve had the time to make it (At least I think, I’m not a game dev.), but as I started hearing mixed things about the game I knew it’ll eventually be dead in the water. I know this game is in early access but if I got to be honest I think they should’ve not done this and instead give the game more time to cook. I think you’ve mentioned almost all the problems with Fraymakers but I think there’s some other flaws that I think more people should point out. These include: Pandering to much to the competitive scene: This seems to be a trap many Platform Fighters fall into. The reason why I think this is a problem is because of the reason why Super Smash Bros (And the entire Platform Fighter genre as a hole really) was conceived, TO BE A MORE CASUAL/BEGINNER FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITIONAL FIGHTING GAMES! Like, there’s nothing wrong with having competitive play in mind but if you focus too much on the competitive scene, not only does that go completely against the reason why Platform Fighters became a thing in the first place, but also you’re forgetting about the MUCH larger casual scene and beginner players would also feel daunted by stuff like wavedashing and combos. You’d think the devs would’ve known this when they’re previous game (Super Smash Flash 2) nailed the balance between casual and competitive pretty well (Also I know it took SSF2 years to be where it is today, but with a decade’s worth of experience they could’ve took what made SSF2 great and implemented that into Fraymakers) but they fell into the same trap that plagued other Platform Fighters. Although one thing I should note is that the game is in early access (We all know that by now) so MAYBE the devs could be working on stuff for the casual crowd. But anyways let’s move on to the next flaw, that being: The roster: Let’s get this one out of the way FOUR CHARACTERS WITH TWO MORE ON THE WAY IS WAY TOO SMALL! Okay since that’s out of the way, another thing I like to point out is that there seems to be no equivalent to Mario in the game. What mean by an equivalent to Mario is that there is no Jack of Trades Master of None type character for beginner players to learn, this isn’t good for any Fighting Game roster because if you don’t have a character that can teach people the basics of your game without having a play-style TOO specific some players might struggle to learn said game (If you ask me who that character should be, I know people are tired of seeing this character cross over with everything but I think Shovel Knight could probably fit that role). Another problem with the roster is the lack of “All Star Characters”, what I mean by that is characters that anyone can recognize but for Fraymakers’ character choices, while not bad (And are even cool additions) I feel as if the ones chosen might be too niche. I know it’s a small team (I think) and it would hard to get negotiations with some wildly popular indie characters but I think it would still be nice and could boost the game’s popularity (If ask me who I think should be playable in Fraymakers, I think I would go with Shovel Knight as I already mentioned earlier, Meat Boy, Quote from Cave Story, The Knight, Hat Kid, and Ori. Maybe bit much but I just wanted an amount that could be even with the already confirmed characters.). Although the game isn’t fully out yet so maybe they might add one of these characters eventually. Anyways here’s the other flaw with Fraymakers: The Assist Mechanic: This one’s gonna be short. I think it’s good for a Platform Fighter to find ways to differentiate itself from Smash but in my opinion at least, having your main gameplay difference essentially being assist trophies makes things feel a little gimmicky (Also side tangent about Peppino being an assist. It made sense when the game was revealed back in 2020 because Pizza Tower wasn’t out yet but that ended up being a BIG mistake in 2023 because Pizza Tower is out now and it is really popular and will probably be remembered years after it’s release). And finally on to the last flaw: The Custom Content: It is a cool idea on paper but the more you think about it, especially for a crossover game like Fraymakers, it is a BAD idea. It works with Rivals of Aether because with the exception of Shovel Knight & Ori everyone else in the game is an original character (And even then the custom content for Rivals caused a lot of problems, so much so that the feature is being removed in upcoming sequel). But for Fraymakers, let’s say there’s an indie game character that someone wants in the game but isn’t, if that person has the knowledge and is tired of waiting they might try make that character with Fraytools, and if that specific character eventually got revealed, what would be the point anymore? That was everything I had say about Fraymakers (God that took so long!).
@IntoTheFrayy
@IntoTheFrayy Год назад
i agree with most of the points you make here, although i’m not so convinced that assists and custom content are bad for the game. the biggest thing with assists for me is that the balance between characters and assists is weird, cause there’s tons of assists but barely any characters (sure having more inde reps is good, but i’d rather have an extra character than 5 extra assists, also some assists are like really obscure). i think custom content is an overall win for the game, as the scenario you described is not gonna happen very often (especially with how few characters this game gets) so it’ll only ever rly affect a couple people. beyond that, agreed. although fraymakers will def make a comeback, they just need time to get things in a better state
@Random_User666
@Random_User666 Год назад
@@IntoTheFrayy maybe I was overthinking with the assists and custom content. Although one thing I still should note about custom content is that it could cause a lot of division in the community like what happened between the Rivals of Aether community which I KINDA already mentioned. Like you could have people who genuinely like the game but you could also have people who are only playing it for the memes which could lead to some issues with the Fraymakers community, although it’s probably not that big of deal. But anyways thanks for the response.

To be fair, as someone that did not purchase early access, I thought it was really strange of them to just give this game away to all of the backers and then take it back from most of them. That did interfere with my hype since that was an error, but I can't hold that against them. The real culprit for this drop in hype is probably the state of the early access game. 4 playable characters (out of the 6-7 confirmed) that don't have finished pixel artwork, a couple stages with no quirky/fun stage hazards, and a somewhat laggy online experience. It's IN THE OVEN, but it's not necessarily doomed. I'm glad they even made it this far!
@EpicMario1
@EpicMario1 Год назад
>I thought it was really strange of them to just give this game away to all of the backers and then take it back from most of them. The service that sent out the steam keys to backers bugged out at early access launch where it gave the backers who donated enough for one/two keys one or no keys at random, and gave backers who did not donate enough for a key multiple keys, and the backers had issue with it. The devs had to recall the steam keys so they could give the fixed rewards to the backers.

I have a good enough PC but the online lag is way Kore that than graphically intense games like guilty gear. While I agree that the netcode may not be the issue, I would lnt go as far as to say it's the players computers, but rather the games optimization. If a person with an rtx 3050 and google fiber can't get a smooth match, then there its definitely a game optimization problem and not a hardware problem. I guarantee creating a hardware restriction would just kill the game faster
@IntoTheFrayy
@IntoTheFrayy Год назад
do you know whether the person ur playing against has a good pc? cause i think the issue may be because one person can’t get enough frames which breaks the connection. but it’s also likely that the game is unoptimised too

While my hype has slightly dwindled overtime (mostly due to the lagging problems and even running into frequent memory leaks when just playing offline), I still want to see this game thrive to become the infinitely replayable platform fighter it is designed to be and I will also be there for the long haul, just not as active. I mean if it has some of the people from SSF2 working on it, it's definitely gonna be a quality product....when it's fully polished and done. Multiversus already kinda fell off hard so I'm seeing Fraymakers as a last bastion of sorts for another great platform fighter outside of Smash and Rivals (Oh and Slap City too, can't leave my man Fishbunjin in the dust). Mind you, there's also "Sentinels Inc" being developed too at the moment and it also looks pretty cool from what I've seen so far!

I'd much rather play Fraymakers than Rivals of Aether for the following reasons 1. It's not exclusive to PCs, I still find it baffling that Rivals' jokey dating sim is available on Macs and not the actual game. And getting the Switch version isn't worth it if the custom content isn't available (note that I own a PC and a Mac, but I use the latter more) 2. The controls are much easier to pick up and get into 3. It's f r e e

I just want to say Brawlhalla is by far the fighter I've put the most time into, over 1k hours, and I feel spoiled by it when I play online in other fighting games. Someone can be getting 2fps and be playing on potato McDonalds wifi and it will have 0 impact on your end, smooth as butter. So however Brawlhalla does things, other studios should really take note. One players setup not affecting another players setup seems 100% possible.

How about devs stop releasing games when they’re clearly not done? The idea of early access is a plague to the industry. It incentivizes devs to not be as committed to completing their games, and it also removes all hype from the full release because people’s impressions come from the early access. This “it’s lacking now, but it will be good one day” mentality is also the reason why the industry favors publishers like EA and Activision. It’s not right.

It's still in early access and in a pretty rough condition. I think modt people (like me) aren't ready to throw money on a game that isn't near finished and most are waiting to see how the full game turns out to be. Seeing how Super Smash Flash 2 is a great game and has a lot of effort put in to it I have trust in McLeodGaming (even if I don't like SSF2 I still like seeing the effort and care). Currently if people want a platform fighter with custom characters they either buy Rivals of Aether since the game is official finished and has a very active Workshop community or they mod Super Smash Bros Brawl, they might even download Super Smash Bros Crusade CMC+ rather than buy Fraymakers since it's free. Fraymakers currently seems to be a really solid base for a game but there doesn't seem to br mutch content as of now. I think when the full game is out it will start to gain a following. Maybe not the size of Rivals of Aether but pretty close to that.
