There was a radical Dalek redesign proposed for the unmade Doctor Who American reboot that puts all other Dalek designs into perspective. Sure, we've had some distinctive-looking Daleks like the Paradigm and the Defence Drones, but that's nothing compared to this...

It looks more like a Skaro degradation than an actual Dalek, it would only have worked in The Time War and as a sort of throwaway cannon fodder drone trooper.

Or perhaps a servant class? Like they are humans that are given a Dalek version of a Cyber-conversion to maintain all the Dalek machines. After all they have many more arm like structures.

@@totalnerd5674 I think it would make sense for something like that to work in Dalek construction or other parts of dalek society that aren't really seen, but also require delicate handling and limited space. I can't see it being easy for a Dalek to wire their various machines and ship systems.

You know, the more you hear about this proposed "reboot" series, you start to become grateful that it never happened. Sure, it's sad McGann never got to shine in a full series, but it sounds like this would have basically been Doctor Who in concept only. Take these "Daleks" that are nothing like actual Daleks outside of the name. You kind of have to be glad that we got the 2005 show instead, which is a fantastic continuation instead of a reboot.

As bad as the their Dalek ideas were, that imho wasn't the worst idea for the reboot, that would go to... The Dr and the Master being revealed to be brothers, who would spend the 1st season looking for their father, named "Ulysses"
@crimsong8068
@crimsong8068 5 месяцев назад
@@felinusfeline5559 Actually, that idea dates back to the Pertwee era. That reveal would have been part of "The Final Game," the last Doctor vs. Master story that got canceled due to Roger Delgado's tragic death. Then in Planet of Fire, the Master was supposed to say, "Would you really kill your own brother?" But they changed it to make it more ambiguous. It's far from the worst idea. Holmes and Moriarty are brothers in some adaptations.

Man am I glad this never saw the light of day, but it is an interesting little blind alley of Dalek progression. I think they could justify bringing in the general concept of a Spider Dalek into the show one day, if they use a similar situation to the Special weapons Dalek of needing to bring in some kind of Dalek specialist for a specific purpose. I’d hate this as an overall redesign though.

I had an idea of it for being the two factions have joined forces and have made two new Daleks, The Temporal Shift Daleks and Destroyer Daleks. The idea was having the 8th doctor's first Dalek Story a sequel to Remembrance of the Daleks.

Think 'Dalek 1x06' paired with the creepiness of 'Blink' 3x10.

No, Barussa was Doctor's grandfather. His father was Ulysses. And I don't think if this is part of the leakly bible. but in one story Ulysses fell in love with a Victorian time traveler Penelope Gate from Earth. She invented her own time machine, and wished to run away from a marriage that became a chore to her. On her journeys through time she met Ulysses, who seduced her, and they had a child together. He wanted to hide from Gallifrey and raise their son on Earth. It's actually quite romantic. I really like the Doctor's mom being this Victorian inventor.

@dalekbumps
@dalekbumps 10 месяцев назад
The TV Movie was a hodgepodge of ideas that went through various stages of production over the years, with multiple different writers and producers working on the project over time. One of the original ideas from back when John Leekley was working on the project was that it would essentially reboot Doctor Who's lore from the ground up, and the series would consist of remakes of various classic Doctor Who stories. The Ark in Space was one, as was Talons of Weng-Chiang and Tomb of the Cybermen (though in this case it would have been 'Tomb of the Cybs', as the Cybs were planned to be the replacement for Cybermen and looked more like Borg crossed with pirates) Presumably, these Dalek concepts are from one of these early ideas, and at one point I think Steven Speilberg was involved in some capacity. Over time though, Leekley left the project and some other writers came in, it went through various rewrites, lots of different people had different ideas of where to take it and the TV Movie is basically what we ended up with as a result of that. Though there are still some tiny remnants of the older ideas lingering in the TV Movie, such as the idea of the Doctor being half-human which relates to the fact that in the original idea for the rebooted canon, the Doctor was the Master's half-brother. It's mad to think that had the original concept of the rebooted TV show gone ahead, it would have changed Doctor Who as we know it forever and New Who would probably never have happened as a result

i think having this as the new dalek design would be a complete mistake and im glad they didnt go through with it. although on the other hand i think it could be reintroduced as a type of dalek, similar to how we have the heavy (or special) weapons dalek. not a mainstream dalek design but a dalek unit. in that case i think they could work as one of these three, i think the first and third idea's make the most sense. 1: Security Daleks. 2: Interrogation Daleks. And 3: Infiltration Daleks. I think them being Security or Infiltration Daleks would work better. i can already imagine them pretending to be a rubbish bin before murdering there victims. i think that could be a great story so long as it includes normal daleks. maybe the normal ones are in command. as i said i dont think they could work as mainstream daleks and considering how the daleks are in new who i see them having very little need for Interrogation Daleks. and i think them being used as Security Daleks or Infiltration Daleks could work much better.

Loving these videos! You’ve occasionally asked for suggestions for subject matter for possible future videos, and I wondered whether you’d considered doing one on the Dalek Annuals of the 1970s (along with the ‘Dalek Outer Space Book’ et al of the 1960s and other books such as ‘Terry Nation’s Dalek Special - mostly penned by the one and only Terrance Dicks - which I distinctly remember trying to read by candlelight during the power cuts of the late 70s…) I was always intrigued by the occasional vague references to how some of the comic strips and prose stories in the Annuals (especially those featuring Reb Shavron, Cal Tarrant, Mark Seven etc) were supposedly based on recycled scripts from the American spinoff series that never came to pass. Apologies if you’ve done a piece covering these topics already and I’ve somehow overlooked it. Thanks again. Keep up the great work.

They actually _aren't_ *the* Daleks (TM). From the hints I gathered, the Master made these ripoffs in his coup against Gallifrey, which is why the real Daleks put him on trial at the beginning of the TVM. Even Philip Segal had reservations about these fellas: he found them distasteful for being too horror-inspired and not enough of the "cold, efficient killers/exterminators" of old. I have to agree with him: Exterminating someone up close and gruesomely indicates that they actually _care_ enough to do that. Ideally, the blast-gun at its highest setting would leave only a little bit of dust behind: _You don't even matter enough to leave a body behind to bury._

The Leekley bible was thrown out months before the TV Movie started production, and since the TV Movie is a direct continuation of what came before I highly doubt it would've followed these concepts. This looks like it may have been influential. There are some similarities to the way Dalek Sec opened up in DALEKS IN MANHATTAN. The germ of a good idea, but I think a lot would have to be rejected. According to the Leekley Bible, these are literally spiders with technological armour. There is no "spider walk" - they float and hover like the probe droid in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. The armour is surgically attached - similar in concept to Doc Octopus in SPIDERMAN. In the Bible there is a lot of obvious non-sense such as Daleks shooting spiderwebs out of spinnerets and eating people - these bits must be rejected.
