It's a band favourite. We got to play it on the wall of the Eder and Mohne dams in 2015.that was pretty special

The piece was written for a movie, about the brave RAF men on one particular mission.

Many are still playing. Some with the band ... Some in other places. In 2015 the band toured Europe and got to play The Dambusters on the Mohne and Eder dam wall as well as at RAF Scampton

Yep, right on top of the band at 1:15. You could just about fly a lancaster across the stage of the Sydney Opera House if you flew at the height that 617 Sq flew over the dams

People just walked past or stopped to listen. It was a 40oC day so not a lot of people around. I think most people were fine with it - they may not have recognised the tune. Our German guide was quite touched that we would take the time to honour the German civilians that were drowned with a Last Post on both dam walls

The German people accept the war happened, that horrific things were done by their ancestors, and that the Nazi regime had to be removed. The only way that could be achieved was by outside forces and that the dams raid was a necessary evil. They remember not just those Germans who lost their lives, but the nearly 56000 airmen who died, the approximately 10million who died in the death camps, the million or troops of Germany who never came home. Yes they remember! May all who died in war rest in peace!

Thanks for the comment. It does have words sung to "God is our Help and Refuge our present help in trouble....." And we have used it as wreath laying hymn at RAAF commemorations. Its true that there were no singers on this recording as it was at an International Band Competition but either way, it is a very evocative tune that stirs up all sorts of emotions and is a favourite with many
