And Dan owned his own Dojo with his terrible fighting style... only to get nobody to train because he forgot to pay his phone bill and add his address to his commercials.
@@battlion507 He trains Sakura for like a day and she surpasses his level, so she leaves. She doesn't even tell him to his face, she leaves him a letter and is just gone lol.
@@Newbehnewb To be fair she sometimes comes to help him out but her focus is always completely on Ryu. If I remember correctly Dan isn't even really a bad fighter, but he never had formal training in the super martial arts because Gouki wouldn't train him because he sought revenge so he fused a bunch of other martial arts into Saikyouryu. He'd probably stand a chance if he could actually sit down and refine his style (though it's said that his style hurts him more than it does others) but the defeat of Sagat made him get a big head. He's kind of like the Hercule of SF. EDIT: Said Kyokugenryu (Ryo's fighting style) on accident.
@@infernaldisdain8051 From what I've seen, Dan's style is REALLY close to tapping into the Satsui no Hadou. So it MIGHT be the ultimate fighting style... it's just that Dan himself will never be any good at it
7:07 For people who dont know, Dan's dad was an amazing fighter, he was actually the one who took Sagat's eye...but was killed in the fight. Years later Sagat felt guilty, and when Dan challenged him for "revenge", Sagat let him win. Of course, Dan being Dan never realiced Sagat let him win, that is why his ego is so big, he thinks he actually managed to beat freaking Sagat. Go Hibiki's design, just like Dan's, is a parody of a SNK character (Mr Karate).
Poor Sagat though, he has storyline loses in Alpha to both Dan and Adon. The Dan one was on purpose, but Adon legit beat Sagat to become the new God of Muy Thai.
You gotta love Dan's tenacity, Gouken refused to train him because he pretty much said "Bruh u fukin suck" and then he went off to beat Sagat in a totally not rigged and embarrassing way. What a legend
Sagat's stage in this game is so funny to me. They were like: "Hey, remember that cool stage in front of the laying down Buddha statue? How about we make the same stage but NOW you get to see his holy feet *in detail* on the right side?"
@@CrossoverGameReviews It was impressive "at the time". The original stage looked flat this Zero stage had dimension. It's easy to mock today but then it was all a very big deal.
When SNK touched Dan, they gave them a GADOU-SHOKOU-KEN, a huge projectile with the shortest range ever reached by anything. They also gave them a punch that parries every hi and mid attack, deals big damage and breaks Dan's wrist after the move. So... SNK did a better joke character than CAPCOM, even as the target of the joke?
Why is Dan's portrait in this game actually cool Also i like how Rose tried to reflect the Gadoken but since it doesnt go anywhere she just wiffs her reflect
@@jorgelugo9473 well he was, but it was supposed to be more subtle. Like, he was just some guy who was probably above average, being able to conjure energy blasts AT ALL even if their crap puts him above most normal people, but that makes him extremely overconfident against the actually much stronger opponents in the SF series. It's supposed to be silly how not self aware he is while still taking himself completely seriously. Then naturally he got sillier and more flanderized as time went on.
At first he was just a copy of Ryo and Robert. Eventually they tossed in Yuri (Ryo's sister/Robert's girlfriend), which made Dan much more of a joke. As you can see he only uses the fist taunt, but eventually they give him Yuri's taunts. Add in the autograph fireball and you end up with a complete joke. Lol.

He CAN do the raging demon... But not really on command, and the one time he did it he tripped over a backpack and failed to hit anyone. So give him some real training and talent, and he could be legit.
@@Triumph._. What the hell kind of drugs are you on? They were referencing Terry Bogard who said the "wubba wubba" quote OP mentioned, and Geese called Terry Bogard a "pinheaded son of an ice cream maker"
@@shoken4421 Nah, he really liked XIV, he said as much on numerous occasions. The thing is, this time around he actually got into XIII and maybe played THAT a bit too much. ... plus this was just a very, very long legacy in general.
I saw *DAN* *LEGACY* and immediately thought "Wait, did I miss the latest SFV trailer"?! Only to realize that he's apparently just doing this for the heck of it. DANgit...
Yeah he's a combination of ryo and robert. The reason he gives off those steven segal vibes is because robert originally was based on steven. It's great that snk took the dig well, they seem to love the character.
@@Triumph._. The more you know. The cool thing is that I have a box set of bruce lee movies and one of them was titled "Way of the dragon" it is pretty cool to know I have the original title.
Funny thing is: SNK's reaction to Dan was: LET'S MAKE EVERYBODY'S PROJECTILES HAVE SHITTY RANGE, MAKE EVERYONE SUPER FAST AND MAKE THE MOVES AND COMBOS REALLY MATTER... and so KOF 96 was born, and KOF as a different kind of fighting game began to take its own shape.
@@orlanzo2621 Considering Dan has, canon, tapped into the Satsui No Hado (By accident. Once.) Does that mean if Sagat had just beat Dan into the floor, we'd have a super powerful Evil Dan?
I'm sorry, I love Capcom, but Ryo and Robert > Ryu and Ken. Capcom tends to talk about how different Ryu and Ken are fundamentally, but SNK always made sure to show you the difference between Robert and Ryo with that bad ass sprite work and how they essentially used the same techniques but performed them completely different, seeing Robert literally start kicking his fireballs I was like ... dude ... this is next level shit lol.
A lot of the differences Ken started getting is *because* of Robert lol More kick-focused multi-hitting moves and the billionaire CEO backstory, to mention a couple of things...
I loved playing with Dan. He was the Ultimate taunt character. But the combo does ridiculous damage. Too bad the computer didn't let you land the whole combo. Thanks, Max!!
Bruce Lee stage movie name is: US name: "Return of the Dragon" China name: "Way of the Dragon" Released in 1972 One lives for such a rare opportunity to share useless information stored in their head. Thank you for the opportunity.
Italy name: "L' urlo di Chen terrorizza anche l'occidente" Yeah maybe you can say who gives a fuck but i'm italian and since the movie was filmed in my country i just wanna use this rare opportunity to share useless information stored in their head. LOL Thank you for the opportunity.
Fun fact: Dan was created in 1995, and KOF changed from water to wine after KOF 96, gaining a lot of mobility choices, with dodges, runs, long jumps and short hops. In exchange a lot of projectiles got their ranges shortened and got way too similar to Dan's Gadouken. So, Capcom helped SNK to make KOF a better game thanks to Dan, in a way.
@@The_Death_Owl I believe its also because the 30th anniversary version lacks a training mode for some reason?? Or maybe that was for one of the other games. Either way, another reason to not have it installed.
Alpha 1 Dan will always be my favorite Dan incarnation. I love how each level of his Hisshou Buraiken is different; one with kicks, one with punches, and the level 3 with all combined. Also how he throws his fireball here with the palm, just looks too cool.
I just want to say thanks to you Max for your content, despite all this craziness its people like yourself that helps keep the real fgc alive especially with all the madness happening in the world...thank you Dood.
Dan in Alpha 2 was OP. Back in the days before the interwebs was a thing, I won the local tourney using Dan. The grand finals was fun as I went up against an undefeated Shin Akuma player. I utilized Dan's jumping short a lot to close distance because of active frames- It snuffs out a lot of the anti-airs in the game. His standing medium is also safe on block and extremely useful for baiting out whiffs from your opponent in which you can punish with shinku-gadokens. The Dan from SFA3 and onwards is just a mere shadow of his former OP self.
I always like the joke characters like Dan or Mr. Satan in shows and games more than the main characters. Something about seeing someone who is weak but still tries just forms a better connection than people with incredible powers that almost always win.
When I saw Dan legacy in the title I thought they made a trailer about him in street fighter 5 it turned to be not the case but nonetheless I enjoyed seeing you kick ass with wired looking Dan
Naw, if we get an alternate version of Dan, it's got to be "Serious Dan", in reference to "Serious Mr. Karate" from SVC Chaos & KOF XIII. Dan wears the tengu mask, and suddenly is truly godlike, and his ending is him acting as though that side of him isn't true to Saikyo-ryu, so her retires it, but the truth deep down is that he's terrified at how good he truly can be if he takes things seriously.
George Horvath I Greatly approve of this, I wish capcom would continue dan parodying after 25 years. They could also give him a darker GI and a beard, in reference to Mr. Karate II (older Ryo)
You’re going to be happy you did a Dan legacy when he gets confirmed for the next season of SFV. That’s right. SFV is getting another season, as bizarre as that sounds.
Aww sweet! I love the Legacy series. I recently went back to work and I am reminded of everything I hated about it. It will be a great comfort knowing that I will be able to come home to these videos!
It’s about DAN time you did a Legacy on the Greatest Saikyo Ryu Street Fighter, Hot Take: Dan was at his best in Alpha 1 and I loved his face Sprite too. Also I was born the same year as his debut, 1995!
@@patricknguyen7530 Coincidence or not I am super happy. Easily the best Street Fighter news I seen all year was in this one announcement. Now Street fighter has seen some good news in the past. I feel this is better than the previous news due to the fact were gonna see more communication from the devs of Street fighter 5. I loved the new announcements but I was not a fan of how distanced they were when it came to what they were doing and what their plans were. Going weeks to months without news of anything new. I just felt like the game was gonna get nothing. I am glad were getting more during the final stretch of this game's road to SF6.
@@elbucho8867 at least yuri stronger than dan or look at shingo yabuki he became strong in every kof because in his story he keep training with kyo father
