I don't fully understand the directions for interlocking. I think what you are saying is that you are creating different holes every time you bring the end of the dread through?
Its the different races that make it difficult. Rasta culture is the original and they did nothing to there locs and they grew to the floor. We hear them say don't wash it for long periods of time and automatically they are nasty and stink, we hear them say don't mess with your locs and we say they are unkept, but its a cultural thing that society has made a trend and has made money off of people by feeding them a lot of different information, because we are ignorant to the loc game!
Some of you mentioned you wished I had addressed the myth that interlocks cannot be combed out. That is indeed a myth. I have combed out an interlock of my own successfully. Here is a video link of someone who demonstrates how she combed out all of her 400(ish) latched (aka interlocked) locs. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BaH2aIsMa8M.html
JoyceMD thanks so much id just locked my hair two weeks ago and im going to interlock my hair to day but can u inter loc your hair once instead of going into 4 different loops
I just interlocked my own hair for the first time yesterday. I had the issue you mentioned about my retwists not staying. Half the length of my hair would be new growth, and once I shampooed my hair... forget. I would literally be walking around with a loc fro by 3 weeks after my retwist. I found I had more control as far as the tightness of my locs when I interlocked vs retwisting. Thanks for the informative video.
I have this EXACT problem. I've been struggling so hard with this because my hair just refuses to lock in some places. Will probably interlock once in a while to maintain tightness
Information on point. Someone asked me about it bc of all the bad thing they heard. I pretty much said what you said, if it's done right, it's just as effective. I'm gonna send them this vid
I've been doing a lot of research because I'm considering locs for my 9yr old niece (she's autistic, and doesn't like her hair combed frequently). This was very informative. Thank you!
my mom had to interlock my hair because i live a very active lifestyle and would sweat out the twists she would make when i would get it redone. my hair hasn't loosened yet.
good news,,, Im interloc four years now, my hair middle of back, I have maintained my own and I don't use products besides shampooing... every one ask only four years it's so long with no extension,,, my hair grows like weeds because I leave it alone letting it grow two or three inches before re-inter-locking, I also wash about every week n dry natural, also do alot of green smoothies, vitamins, and minerals... my hair is thicker do to Interlocs (twice I tried but my belief the twisting palm roll thins my texture and didn't stay locked)...
Great info. I have interlocked my roots for maintenance from the beginning of my journey and I have had no problems. Some in the loc community may disagree with this method... However I did the research and for me, it was appropriate. I have nothing against re twisting, but it would not be as effective as interlocking MY locs. Thanks for addressing this.
This was a great video! I have interlocked my locks the entire time and I love them!! I have had a few holes at the bottom of my locks that I fixed our just cut off but either than that, I would totally recommend interlocking for people with fine hair who want to lock their hair!!❤❤
i don't understand how you could possibly get a dislike on this video its common sense and facts and the people who disliked it are still in denial and refuse to face the facts and rather they believe in myths..Great Video
I started my locs 3 months ago (tomorrow will be 3 months) and my loctition interlocked my hair and my hair is still growing thick! And your supposed to interlock every 3 months .. And I get a retwist 1 every month and my hair is perfectly healthy and fine .. Remember people less is more you don't need to interlock and retwist all the time
I have been interlocking my friend hair for 8 years. Done correctly, they will permanently lock (to the point that combing out is no longer possible) and the hair will not thin out. Thanks for your video!
Thank you for sharing this. My mother had locs from when I was around 4 years old till I was in my late 30's and she did absolutely nothing with her locs but wash her hair ever two weeks with Head and Shoulders! Her locs being two fingers thick and to her bum. Never build up or residue in her locs and never twisted them at the roots. So I do find tbe loc info sometimes overhand unnecessary. Keeping it simple seems to be a successful step! Your videos are soo helpful. Keep them coming pls.
I agree. Keeping it simple according to nature. My locs do its very own locking ; specially when wet , leave it along. The roots tightens on its own. Very little manipulation is necessary only if needed to re-twist gently while wet, then lay it down with a scarf or satin wrap. Once dry, it does it’s dance, bob, swaying naturally and you will love it.
Cláudia Assunção Bernardo Cossa , No, u don’t. Lol. It’s work because the new growth can grow too long causing it to become less thicker than the shaft. Man, maybe it’s my hair type. I have now completed my first year Loc journey this June. I am still hyped but calming down . I am confident my hair will keep growing longer. I just hope the strands that are Loc stay thick. Nature seem to tighten them as time goes.
I'm so glad that you made this video! Thank you, when I tell you interlocking was like the boogeyman for me, I'm not lying. The horror stories I hear about the holes was enough, but also that it seemed intricate and time consuming. However, I came to those conclusions without doing any further research. I have already began looking at interlocking AND thank you so much for encouraging me to be more open to my options. I have to remember there is not one way to maintain my hair and my locs are diverse. You rock!
Of course! I specifically had you and one other person in mind when making this video. While I dont necessarily think interlocking is intricate, it IS time consuming. That is the only thing I dont like about the method. For me, with 250 locs, I would have to do it over 2 or so days. I hated that. Im glad that you're open to considering interlocking. You DO have options. Should you choose to go for it, I would love to know what you think of the method...
Thanks for this, this video is common sense, so many things can break and thin your hair, it's about balance, I started my locs out with two strand twist and interlocked the roots.
thanks a lot.. I researched how to interlock and tried it on a few of my starters successfully. I concluded that this method would probably work best for me due to the quantity of my locs and my personal dislike for twisting and the look that it would create for me. I read so much info and was quickly discouraged from it. so, my joy of finding something that would work was short lived until I found your video. All of this makes sense based on logic and on other facts I know about natural hair and my hair more specifically... so thanks for giving it back to me. I will just be mindful of how I am interlocking and make wise decisions that are both logical and feel healthy for my locs.
I'm so glad you've made this video. I've been interlocking for almost the start of my journey, loc'd for 7yrs now. I tried twisting and palm rolling even with the locking gel but my hair would not take!!! (Hell, when I'm trying to slay my edges i got2b doesn't work.) I'd clip them down, clip them to each other, blow dry them but soon as the clips came out, so would the twists. Interlocking works best for me and my hair has been the same, my locs are just as thick, and they're strong. I also don't go over board with tightening my locs, re-twisting too often doesn't give your hair and scalp a chance to breath. I let my hair grow out (all bushy and disrespectful) before I do another re-twist, but that works for me.
Thank you! My hair laughs at the thought of “palm rolling”. I had to interlock just to even start locs because my hair won’t hold a comb twist. It literally unraveled from the root down.
This was such a breath of fresh air! Im in the process of gathering my info before I loc my hair and with all of the information ive seen ive definitely decided to interlock for less maintenance.
thank you! not enough ppl are denouncing this myth. btw, i really like how u clock/break down the times and write out what subject you talk about. its like chapters for ur video. really really good.
I'm planning on getting dreads by next week and this really eased my anxiety about interlocking. Reading different articles saying it's really harmful to hair made me hesitant about getting dreads and I've wanted them for a while. Thank you!
Thanks for making this video! Great information and being that my locs are interlocked I'm glad you spoke on this topic because incorrect information does spread faster than the truth !
*applauds* you go girl! I think you hit every point. I had to interlock the back of my hair because it would not stay twisted, even in two strand twists so interlocking was the way to go.
You are so right. It depends on the tension. I had braids for too long (20 years!) and I recently took out the braids and my hair became thin, as well as thin edges. Thanks for this video.
I recently had to switch to interlocking because twisting was not working for my hair type. Maybe once I fully loc I can switch back. My son's thick, dense, kinky hair is thriving with the twisting method.
After so many years I just clicked on this video and I have to say THANK U BINDI, exactly point taken interlocking is nt bad it definately depends on the correct method of getting it done if it's done incorrectly it is gonna cause problems dats a fact thank u again wonderful video sis😊
Oh my gosh you are gorgeous. Like wow. I’m thinking about locking my natural hair and someone suggested interlocking. Thank you so much for your information! 💛
I interlocked once when I was 5 weeks in because my retwist would not stay and it kick started the locking process. I haven't done interlocking since then because 1) I don't need to my hair doesn't unravel anymore 2) interlocking takes me forever 3) regularly interlocking makes my hair feel dense and I like the fluffy/spongy feeling of just lightly using my fingers on new growth.
Yup, same! The only con to interlocking, for me, is the amount of time it takes. It used to take me so long and that's my only turn off. And I too noticed, that on portions where I interlocked tight using an interlocking tool, my loc felt like a rope (which isnt necessarily a bad thing) but to combat that I interlocked with my fingers... a little more loosely ...and I didn't experience that again.
I feel as though now that Locs have become a trend there’s been more confusion and people feeling like they have to follow a step-by-step rule-book around Locs and just go along with what they’ve seen.
Thank you! I have locs at the nape of my hair that keep coming out, and I've been scared to interlock. This made me feel better. I'm definitely going to look for a professional to help interlock my hair.
Thank you for this video! It's great that you mentioned Damien I look at some of his videos also. I also made the mistake of putting holes in my locks and yes its thinning and I now need to get rid of it and start over after 8 years! I need a new look anyway! I'll cry but I'll do it right this time around.
Aw, man. When you said 8 years... that hurt me too. I'm sorry to hear that. If you do decide to go through with the cut and start anew the bright side is, as you said, you'll have the information this go round. Good luck!
Yep I will and thank you! I had it done Sunday. Very short and shaved around my head area. loving the light effects and lovely breeze. I love it. I wore the flat twist and gotten a lot of compliments.
WET BRED i have short starter locs, maybe mid neck . I did most of them right but may have interlocked some wrong . I’m so nervous on what’s going to happen and if I ruined the ones I messed up on. As someone who had holes . Will they be okay and should I leave it alone or try and fix them ? I probably won’t interlock myself again or at all so will messing you one time be detrimental ?
i been getting my locs retwisted for about 3 years now recently on my last visit to my loctician , she noticed that i always have alot of new growth and my hair is always tangled when she retwist, she recommended interlocking im going nx month to start this vid help me understand so more, by the way you are very pretty and attractive 😤😉
Thanks so much for educating the audience. I literally lost my edges due to tightening to tightly and everyone is so confused how that happened ? I paid to have my hair retightening for years I did not do it myself. Thanks again
I am newly loc'd and I interlocked on my own. I did it incorrectly and had to start my locs over. Interlocking is one of those things that's best left to a loctition. I don't think I will do it again. I heard some great advice that a person like me who has very soft, curly hair should maybe not interlock. I agree with that.
I love interlocking, have been doing it for the past 10 yrs and will do nothing else...my hair has actually thickned at the roots, I don't have a receedibg hairline, I don't have to keep it styled and yes 6 - 8 wks I wait to have it done again. You can wet your hair more often than with twist and rolls. Having to twist and rolls to often stress the hair follice. Great video.😊👍
My gf has super soft curls and I started her off with two strand twist and it’s been very hard to get it to lock. Started interlocking and in a month I saw a difference. Her hair definitely didn’t hold a retwist. As a preschool teacher she is always moving and on the go and interlocking made a BIG difference.
Thank you! I purposely looked for your thoughts on interlocking. My texture is softer and graying, palm rolling doesn’t last after the first wash. Will try interlocking myself.
I enjoy locking my locs. I interlock every 8 weeks and I study locs as well. I have noticed I have a lot of hairs on my locs on the hairline only where my strands were pulled at the roots. My locs are now cylinder and my Stylist recommended I Retwist my locs instead of interlocking as they are "too large" to pull through my new growth.
your video just saved one of my dreads! Lol last night I tried IL on 1 and created a whole because went same direction 3x but fortunately was able to save. Thank you! I will find a locktition b4 I IL again
Great video Beautiful Young Lady! You stated that like a veteran in the game! Very nice points. Nothing damages hair like lack of knowledge. People need to go to someone who knows what they are doing and why they are doing it. Very well said!
I had to interlock my starter locs in order for them to stay. I am on my 7th month journey and I have enough new growth to where I can retwist it. I actually like both but if I had to choose I would go with interlocking but make sure you go to someone who knows what they are doing.
Thanks for this video. I am about to loc my hair. I was curious to know the diffrence in interlocked hair vs palm rolled hair. This video helped alot. I will start my loc journey in june im very excited. Thanks for the info☺
I have been growing my dreads for about 10 years. but the truth is overtime interlocking definitely causes the thinning and breakage. I've had to save almost half of my hair to get it put back in. it caused a lot of pain and suffering with the way I felt about my hair having to endure ppl talking about what I should have did who have real knowledge of dreads and different. you are right in the fact of twisting is not efficient for certain hair types. but don't think I would interlock all my dreads if I could start over. only certain ones that refuse to twist. im only from my experience I'm not hair professional but in long term interlocking did not do me justice in the short term my hair looked awesome.
Thank you for so much accurate information on interlocking. After listening to your video and reading comments below, I decided Not to interlock because someday I may like to comb out my locs and it’s not going to happen, Cutting them off would be the only option. I pass.
Sooooo I'm combing my "tradition" locs out and i plan on doing micro locs. I am definitely afraid to interlock and make holes in my new set of locs. But i know i like the weird freedom i get from having 3 to 4 inches of loose roots on my locs. And its helpful in this combing out process.
I appreciate this video. Cause I've been interlocking for almost 3 years and my hair is doing well. I like interlocking over twisting because when my scalp sweats my palm rolls come out. Also, I like to wash my hair after about ten days and it's less maintenance if your hair is interlocked.
This video was really helpful. thank you! I'm on my eighth month loc'd and I've come to realize that my hair needs washed more often for me to really feel like its getting everything it needs. I've tried applying water even when it needs it but my roots get SO PUFFY! I want to maintain a semi neat look but I don't want to be retwisting every week to do so. I think I will try interlocking. For some reason, I got in my head that interlocking would be betraying something or another which is absolutely silly. thank you, thank you, thank you. I think I'll try interlocking on my next wash day.
thank you. I've been thinking about trying interlocking and as soon as I made that known I just been hearing so many negative things about it! It didn't change my mind but it did have my second guessing myself. I'm sure now that I am getting my hair interlocked. CORRECTLY Lolz. Thanks again!!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for this!! I'm trying to figure out how to maintain my second set of locs and interlocking has come to mind and this was so helpful. Thank you for your insight!!
This was an informative video. I had to shampoo daily at one point with my loc journey. Therefore, I started interlocking and found it worked well. I continued alternating between interlocking and palm rolling. I like the results of palm rolling on my hair. I also have to wash my hair during the summer often. So, I found it essential to understand the use of tension and technique on my hair texture.
Retwisting every weeks is also super expensive. Interlocking your own hair is pretty good for your savings. As a student, i wish i could do it, but I'm kind afraid to fuck it up. This is also my first time doing dreads, so I got no experience
Actually i didn't even want real dreads, I wanted twists. Just like Tobe Nwigwe (look him up, & tell me the name of his hairstyle, you'd be much appreciated, thanks 😁)
The thing is that most salons interlock incorrectly. Many persons are walking around with holes in the locs that end up weakening their locs. The fear is real. Whether it’s incorrect or not it still is interlocking.
Goodness my hair could never take the manipulation of pulling hair back thru root, any direction. My hair cannot take that amount of bending locking or not. Did it in the past and not for my hair matrix. So I am not doing it this round of locks. I learned the hard way.
thanks for the video cause a lot of ppl think down on interlocking but like you said if you don't have a certain type of hair(4c) twist method not gonna do nothing for you but piss you off...I know from experience I praise the interlock method... good stuff boo
Thanks! And 4c isnt the only hair type twisting doesnt work for. People with extremely soft loose wavy/curly hair (3a, 3b) doesnt hold a retwist well either. People need to know they have options instead of trying MAKE something work, thats just not going to work for them... thanks for commenting!
JoyceMD my bad I meant 4c is the only hair type that holds up on a twist method with very little effort.. I'm probably Idk a 4a maybe but very course and thick hair kinda like them Samoan dudes...lol (more frizzy than nappy) not to mention my hair was down to my shoulders when I started my locs a few months ago... I went to one loctician who was kinda against interlocking an she wanted to do a Palm roll / twist but I've been down that road before in looked like snoop dogg from the next episode video... 😒 no thanks so I found another loctician who just looked at my hair texture and length in knew twist wouldn't work so she interlocked them an Im very satisfied...btw I love your locs very Lauryn Hill..ish look to them
Love this! Short but long story. Like you care. But here you go... lol... I'm on my research journey. Really. I'm ready. But with my searching. I thght I wanted sister locs/micro locks. Although they re beautiful and I understand time... but I dnt have bout 8 to 1k to just start locks. I have bout 14-16inch hair and dnt want to cut it. So getting to the point... lol... what I truly realized... I like the interlocking look and can do that on small traditional locks. Then like you said. Read and saw and thght oh no! It's damaging... but like you said. It depends on you and your hair. I really like interlocking and think I will do well... I have watched so many videos. Regarding the points and understanding the trying not to create holes... overall... my main point was😁... I love how you broke it down!!!
First I want to Thank you for covering much needed info on do/don't on interlocking. I have very fine curly hair and once water based anything touch my hair it go's completely straight. So yes yes yes I needed this information. palm rolling in not for me. But I like that look, I just can't have it at this time. Thank you again. Side note your energy level was fine. I work with Energy.👍🌈
I Have Been Wearing The Loc Stitch Loc (Interlocking) Done By A Licensed Loctician For 10 Years With Absolutely No Problem. My Hair Is Over 20 Inches Long. The 4 Point Is NOT How It's Done In Chicago., Which Is Where I Started My Locs And At Times Travel Back There Do Get My Locs Retwisted.
good morning love, great to see you! So I have taken down the braidlocs and I have interlocked my hair. I want to say that my hair is the type of hair that although curly, it doesn't hold a twist. I do get holes sometimes in my interlocking but what I do is when I wash my hair I find the holes and I the interlock that part again to close it. I do not interlock all the way up against the scalp either because my scalp can not take that tension. I know this through much trial and error of trying to loc my hair before. I think I finally got it this time around. we shall see. 😊
+JoyceMD yes they deff have done very well, I'm very happy for you. There is no greater feeling than to know you have accomplished something all on your own.
I just loved ur info on interlocing.. Cuz I'm a newbie to this, i mean I'm on my 6 month Journey with twisted my hair; but i want to start try sum new.. I've worked in the beauty industry for 18yrs, n i have access to the products i need; but i can see this will be something new for me.. Also i just want to say that ur hair is amazing, and u have a pretty smile too.. 😂😁😏😂
Good info. I will be locg soon and am now considering interlocking. I was wondering, "won't there be holes", but I've seen some gorgeous sister and micro locs that had none.
Awesome video! I did not have a good experience with interlocking (I have very thick/dense hair with loosely curled/3a texture areas) but I don't discourage others from doing it. Very informative, and well put together points here.
Honestly, I got starter locs almost a week ago, and I got them two strand twisted I guess, and they’re unraveling unfortunately. I thought about interlocking so i can start back working out but was scared cause of the things I heard about interlocking, but after watching this, I think ima go for interlocking
