Great video! I’m 15 months loc’d & interlocking in the very beginning of my journey (2 times only) helped me out; however, I noticed the very real difference btwn the interlocked parts and the retwisted parts over time. Interlocking allows for a more compact & dense/ constricted loc compared to retwisting where the loc is able to expand to it’s max capacity before condensing over time. Similar to you, I did notice that the interlocked parts had a split in them & have/ are becoming flat. I also used crochet to close some of the gaps. I don’t retwist often, but I do prefer retwisting over interlocking. Overall, if fluffy locs are what you desire, I don’t think interlocking is the way to go as it compacts the loc and keeps it from expanding as much as it would naturally. Hope this helps🤎

This absolutely helped! Thanks for explaining this. It makes a lot of sense. So I guess I should stick with retwisting for what I'm going for. Thanks again for taking the time to explain this!

This is something I’m researching as I started with a combination of 2 strand twist and interlocking, in a few days i’m due a interlocking maintenance appointment(at my 6 week mark) but I also do not want to interlock my hair too often as I prefer the retwist look but I’ll be making a video soon enough❤️ P.S love seeing someone with the same type/look hair as myself😍

Moving forward I’m definitely going to try your process because it’s simpler, easier and beautiful!! I have been on my “interlock” journey for one year and my hair growth has been very slow and the touch up process is EXTREMELY long. However, people I know who started their lock journey around the same time that I did, using the “re-twisting” method, their hair appears to be thicker and longer. Thank you.

I have done both and on any individual loc, I can feel the difference. My locs are dense where I've interloced but the retwisted part felt fluffy. This is also my second set and my first set was solely retwisted and they were fluffier, I think. I plan to go back to retwisting.

I interlock... The nature of interlocking will create a loc that's more dense, but the hair will loosen over time... It just takes time because your hair is in an actual knot. I'm actually going to try my first retwist on Friday just to see because I have only interlocked so far. I love the ease of it all, especially since I workout 5 days a week.

Yes I work out too which is why I initially started interlocking but I’m honestly over the gaps I have (very little) and the time consuming process of interlocking. I actually love the palm rolled look more too now so I’ll just have to deal with it unraveling frequently and fully embracing that look in between retwist.

@Mdee17
@Mdee17 Год назад
@@deesherman9297 Hi there! Yes you can. I’ve seen many loc creators here on YT do it & it works for them. The main thing is not to interlock too tight. For example, choosing a 2 point rotation over a 4 point rotation may be a great option. It allows for the loc to expand more in those interlocked parts rather than staying super dense & tight in that spot. Hope this helps!

I’ve been going back and forth about interlocking my locs as well. For me, I’m struggling with the thought that interlocking is causing my locs to become thinner. Like you, I want my locs to look and feel fluffy. Where I have interlocked my locs, they do feel more dense and hard. I think I’ll freeform for a bit until I make a decision.

Mine are diy dense and hard. When we do our own hair, we can’t see the parts and the strands which might rejoin other locs, and we don’t realize it until the strands that joined another lock our lot with the other strands. You can try to separate the locks after each wash and maybe that will help prevent new strands from joining other locs

I’m on my second lock journey. My first was palm rolled,which I like how symmetrical he locs looked. I wore them for 10 years. And I went unlocked for about 12 years. I started my new loc journey a year ago, February 2020. This go around I went with the interlock method. I like how it holds, the fizziness I don’t like. And I don’t recall it being frizzy at all with palm rolling. I don’t have a problem with them being hard because after I get my hair retightened, I spray them with rose water with glycerin. It softens them and gives it a sheen. And your locs are beautiful.

I know I’m late but I’ve been interlocking for a little over 2 years only because my hair is a 3b and 3c which is really curly and it last longer and when I do my hair I only do a 2 point rotation. I have tried twisting it but again because my hair is curly and it won’t last long. I would love to twist again if I could find the right product for it last without the flakiness.

I just started my locs in Nov 2020 and I started with comb coils and was retwisting when needed until one day I had sooooo much new growth that I did interlocking, and I was like wow! I really REALLY have dreads now! and I loved it, but as my hair started growing it was like you said, "spider webby" just tangly, nappy and puffy around the roots so I decided to go back to retwisting. I like the width and look of retwisting, I do like the instant-ness and less shrinkage with interlocking but I think the person did some way too tight so I have some type of "style" goin on (its cute tho) but outta fear of having bad breakage in the future, I'm just gone do the retwist with maybe one interlocking here or there. I love the way your locs look! the style came out beautiful!

When your locs are fully mature, they’ll naturally become dense everywhere because locs are nothing but matted, compressed hair that only gets more matted and compressed with time. It will all look the same with time. And the interlocking does loosen up after a while if it’s not too tight, as well.
@beautifulwolf3605
@beautifulwolf3605 2 дня назад
Came here to say this. I thought all locs become more dense & harden over time. Only the portions that aren't mature aka your new growth feels fluffy. I'm 1 year & 2 months into my 2nd loc journey. My first set was free forms. As time went on my first set went from super puffy & soft to dense & hard. With my current set I started with 2 strands & interlock my roots every 3 months. Only difference is the hair feels dense at first due to the knots that interlocking creates but my most mature ones have most definitely softened over time!! Everything takes time. A lot of people don't do their research beforehand so they don't really know what to expect. If u want thicker locs while interlocking, use a 2 point rotation method instead of a 3 or 4. I have a mixture of different sizes due to my parting. I did it that way to create layers & volume with this set. My thick locs are about the size of my middle fingers & have remained pretty thick throughout the journey. Now that I'm 1 year in, I've decided to extend my maintenance to every 6 months or twice a year to ensure that they get as thick as possible! Interlocking can be beneficial when done right & according to your hair needs!
@Brownmahfun

Yes there is a such thing as spider webby hair. I have that type of hair and for me it is because of having HIGH POROSITY hair. The hair shingles just grab each other and that is what causes the webbing. More people have it than you think and they don't know what it is.

Enough.🙂‍↔️ I’m 6-years in and I’m just going to start palm rolling my matured locs now. Over time if a vast, funky looking difference between the two methods starts to show up, I will just cut them once the palm rolling portion gets to my shoulders. I love interlocking. It's actually kinda fun... I know, I'm weird 😆. I'm only 7 months in with my locs and I've tried retwisting, and I don't think it's for me. I don't really like those little metal clips and the twisting doesn't hold. I might be using the wrong gel, but with interlocking I don't have to worry about them coming loose. I don't really prefer fluffy locs. I'm going more for a smaller, condensed look. I'll probably try retwisting again at some point further down the road with a different product, but for now it looks like interlocking works well for my hair type.

Yeah, I thought it sounded more like a problem of technique. Interlocking in and of itself is not bad, but a lot of people go about it the wrong way. I used to interlock until I combined my locs, and my locs were never flat or had holes in them. They remained cylindrical though compact, which suited me just fine. Re-twisting kept giving me trouble because my hair had a habit of growing outside the loc. Interlocking kept every strand where it was supposed to be, and my locs thickened as a result. It also lasts so much longer, which meant I didn't have to interlock so often like I had to do with re-twist. So, yeah. Interlock.
@splitpersonaliteze

Really agree it’s all about technique your hair is gorgeous but interlocking isn’t bad I am about to start this journey but I’m also a stylist and so far my research tells me interlocking is maintenance whether paying or diy and I will be trying the 2 point method and you also have to consider remembering your direction for example I will be doing north south east west when I interlock to avoid those knots gaps hardness and flat locs I see people speak of also it helps to maintain a retwist schedule and try not to interlock when you have 3 in or more in new growth. I hope this helps you like you helped me dont give up.
@iamdanie_.
@iamdanie_. 3 года назад
Do you have gaps because you were between retesting or interlocking? And yes interlocking gives your locs a bumpy look. All the little knots. Especially if your hair isn't combed out and you're knotting knots. Plus I'm pretty sure it would be HAAARD to undo a mistake when interlocking cause I've heard people say they mistakenly interlocked two different locs and they had to cut it out because it was a headache to try find the know inside and undo it 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️
